Chapter 282: English To Alien
"What’s going on?" I demanded, the tears in my eyes drying up as stress took their place.
Dr. Deshaye looked at me and opened her mouth a few times. "I just need to confirm a few things before we discuss what is going on," she explained after a moment’s pause.
"Not good enough, doc," I said, struggling to come to a seated position. I could feel one of the guys supporting my back as I sat up on the table. "I want to know now."
She looked at me as there was a knock on the door to the room. "Come in," she called out. I heard the sound of someone trying to turn the handle on the other side of the door, but the door didn’t open.
"Doctor, it seems like the door is locked," called out the nurse from the other side. "I have the ultrasound machine here for you."
Dr. Deshaye seemed startled that the door was locked. Standing up, she stepped around her desk, only to stop when I held up a hand. "That door will not open until you swear that you will do nothing to my child," I said slowly. My guys were overprotective of me, the last month aside. They weren’t going to let a stranger into the room when I was feeling uncertain.
The doctor didn’t know that there were six aliens inside the small 10x15 foot room, but she could sense that something was off with how her spine straightened. She looked at me with distrust and a tinge of anger on her face.
That was nice, but unfortunately for her, it didn’t work on me.
"I took an oath to do no harm," she snapped. "I need that machine to determine what is going on inside of you. There are too many heartbeats for me to determine anything right now."
I nodded my head, and the door swung open, revealing a startled nurse.
Quickly collecting herself, the nurse wheeled the machine into the room. "Is there anything else I can do for you, Dr. D?" she asked.
Doctor Deshaye studied me for a few seconds before shanking her head. "No, thank you, Amy, I am good."
The nurse, Amy, nodded her head and turned around, closing the door behind her.
"Do you want to tell me what is going on?" she asked, not moving so much as an inch toward me or the machine.
"I guess that depends on how well you can keep your mouth shut, Doctor," I answered with a smile on my face. I guessed it wasn’t my friendliest of ones, seeing as she once again retreated behind her desk, her hand on the phone.
"I am bound by law to honor doctor/patient confidentiality," she replied.
"You and I both know that you could be persuaded to ignore that bit of legality," I shrugged, pictures of me and my baby inside of a glass enclosure flashing through my head. "And I will not let anything threaten my child."
"Children," she countered with a shake of her head. "There are seven different heartbeats. Did you undergo IVF to get pregnant?"
Her words caused me to pause and stare into the empty space inside the office. I was panicking. Seven heartbeats?!?
"Guard the door," came the clipped command as GA appeared right beside me. A second shimmer, and Tha’juen was standing in front of the door; his arms crossed in front of his massive chest as he stared down the doctor.
"What the—" she yelled, jumping to her feet and looking back and forth between GA and Tha’juen.
"You asked about the baby’s father. They are two of them. Tell me, Doc, how do you feel about aliens?"
----
Au’dtair was vibrating in rage and anger from where he stood, invisible, beside his mate. His alarms monitoring her condition were screaming inside of his helmet. Her heart rate was elevated, her blood pressure was rising, and her oxygen levels were lowering.
Having more than enough, the consequences be damned, he revealed himself to the doctor. "Guard the door," he commanded, not looking around to see who would obey the order. His mate was stressed, and this human female in front of him needed to calm her down.
"Fix her," he snapped when no one moved for a few minutes. "Her heart rate and blood pressure are rising outside of ideal parameters."
That snapped the female called doctor out of whatever was going on with her.
"Heart rate?"
"128 beats per minute," reported Au’dtair.
"Blood pressure?"
"140/90."
"Fuck," muttered the doctor approaching his mate. "Okay, Sweetie, I need you to calm down. Everything is going to be fine. Like I said, I don’t know how many babies are inside of you right now. That is what the ultrasound is for. How about we take a look and see what is going on inside of you, and then we can figure out where to go from there."
The doctor took Mei Xing’s hands and rubbed her thumbs over his mate’s fingers.
"Heart rate 125 and dropping," reported Au’dtair, monitoring his mate’s stats.
"You are handy to have around," smirked the doctor looking at him. Au’dtair didn’t know what to say, but Mei Xing let out a little snort of laughter.
"Sure, let’s go with that," said Mei Xing, sharing a look with the other female.
"Are there any other surprises?" asked the doctor, raising her eyebrow at his mate. Au’dtair growled, not happy with how she was speaking to his mate.
"Four more invisible ones," shrugged Mei Xing. At her words, Da’kea and the others appeared, making the office even smaller than it was before.
"How is it that I understand what he is saying?" asked the female as she tilted her head toward Au’dtair.
"His translator device is on speaker mode," answered Mei Xing. She lightly cringed and rubbed a spot on her belly.
"Well, that’s useful. I didn’t think I had a translator app that did English to Alien on my phone."
Mei Xing snorted, and Au’dtair helped her lie back down on the weird bed with a paper sheet covering it.
"Heart rate?" asked the other female.
"115," responded Au’dtair. The doctor nodded her head in approval and then started to drag the weird white machine over to the bed.
"Okay, let’s take a look inside of you and see what’s going on."
At her words, there were four low growls, causing the hair on the female’s arms to rise as she sensed the threat.
