Chapter 270: Meeting Subject 1
"You aren’t being reasonable," grunted the male sitting across from me. Based on his look alone, I knew that he was a Dryadalis, but at the same time...
To put it nicely, I had never seen a Dryadalis with his body shape or hair. To put it bluntly, the guy in front of me could have played the villain CEO on any drama back on Earth. He was balding at the top, something that was emphasized even more by how long his white hair was.
His stomach reminded me more of a pot-bellied pig or pregnant rat. I was not one to fat shame, but when his friend stood beside him, it was very obvious that this... Orzoth Dienkol had his vices.
"I wasn’t aware that I had to be," I said with a tired sigh. Da’kea, Tha’juen, and I were currently in his office at the Alliance headquarters on B0101101, and to say it was nothing like what I expected was an understatement.
And not in a good way.
I looked like every other office I had ever seen. The red carpet under my feet, while luxurious, had the same weird smell that most carpets back home did. His ’modern’ white desk looked like it was out of an Ikea catalog, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it even came with its own Allen key to put it together.
I mean, this was the first time I had ever really been to a ’civilized’ planet and in the office of one of the most powerful men in the entire universe. I was expecting a floating desk and chair. Holograms of different worlds on the walls and pristine white marble floors so shiny that I could see my own reflection in them.
But not this.
I wanted to cry from my disappointment, but truth be told, I was trying to stop myself from puking all over the floor from the smell in the room.
Since when was my sense of smell so good? It was driving me crazy.
"My hands are tied; Pippa has tied them," said Orzoth with a shake of his head. "There is nothing I can do."
"That’s funny because I am pretty sure that Pippa’s death has untied your hands, so to speak," I refuted. It wasn’t like I was asking a lot. I had told him flat out that if he wanted to stay alive, he needed to dissolve the Alliance or step down and give someone else a chance to prove to me that the Alliance deserved to remain.
I thought that by offering him a choice, I was being very reasonable.
Males.
My words seemed to stun the two males in front of me, and my two mates shifted into a defensive stance, willing to throw themselves between me and the other males.
It was cute. Misguided, but cute.
I held up my hand as Da’kea relaxed a fraction. However, Tha’juen, my warrior guard, refused to take a step back.
"Did you say that Pippa is dead?" demanded Orzoth’s second, an almost gleeful look on his face. I mean, I wasn’t that upset that she was dead either, but there was something off about his expression.
The two Dryadalis shared a look before pulling out two laser blasters from behind their backs. Da’kea let out a low growl, his nano armor shifting at the threat in front of him while I could practically see the spikes growing from out of Tha’juen’s back.
Me? I just sat in my uncomfortable leather chair with a smile on my face. What were they really going to do? Shoot me? By all means, see how well that would work out for them.
"You see, we have learned a thing or two about human females," smirked Orzoth as he backed around the front of his desk and sat down in his chair like he was king shit.
The poor male.
But that was fine. Pippa’s death was a bit too fast to quench this newfound blood lust. Maybe I could draw it out faster with these two. Too bad they just signed their own death warrants.
"I highly doubt that," I replied with yet another sigh. I shifted my body, trying to get into a more comfortable position, but the fact that I didn’t have a fur on me was making me... fidgety.
"Ah, no. You see, we did learn," smirked the second. "Not once have you been out of our sight since you arrived."
"And?" I asked, not seeing what he was so proud of. No wonder Pippa could make such fools out of them if this was the Alliance. Nothing but an organization that looks out for their best interests and no one else’s.
"And you can’t implant your AI into our systems without our knowledge."
"Do you want the good news or the bad news?" I asked, not quite sure how I should break the news to them.
The two males looked at each other before turning their attention back to me. When neither of them spoke, I shrugged my shoulders.
"I said that Pippa was dead; I didn’t say anything about Stargazer. He is still in your systems, so the queen bitch might be dead, but that doesn’t mean that you are off the hook for anything."
There was something oddly satisfying watching the two blue-skinned males turn as white as their hair.
"You didn’t think about that, did you?" I asked with a chuckle. "Don’t worry about it. I did. He’ll be out of your system soon," I assured them.
There was a weird electric sound as the laser blaster started to charge. "Thank you for that. But I am afraid that you are going to have to die. You might be a breeder, but it isn’t worth the damage your species causes to keep you alive."
"Well, that’s a bit insulting," I said, not at all amused with how he was comparing me to a sociopath. I was much more... meticulous in my planning. "But I can understand where you are coming from. However, I feel like I should let you know that I am not human. I believe you call me subject 1?"
