Chapter 236: Declaration of War
You should never make the mistake that human females don’t do dominance battles of their own with each other. We do. In every aspect of our lives. And sometimes, we don’t even realize that we do it.
Even the weakest among us does it but in a much more subtle manner.
And it is a heck of a lot more complicated than any male’s battle. They concentrate on just the physical beating of each other. You win the fight, and it was done. Everyone knows their place.
Oh no, like a fine wine, there were always different layers of complexity to females interacting with each other.
The first layer, like males, was physical. Who was bigger, and who was smaller. Who could win a physical fight, and who couldn’t.
Then it went on to looks. Who had more desirable characteristics than the other. Hell, even the length of hair a female had was a matter of dominance.
But even the quiet ones, the less dominant ones, had their own battles. Who got the better grades, and who was more popular with the teachers.
Not a single aspect of our lives did not fall within some type of comparison or another.
Hell, even making bread or pickles sometimes factored in depending on the two females involved.
It was funny that I had forgotten about that, spending most of my time imprisoned or tortured.
But staring back at Pippa across the screen, I knew I had underestimated her.
I scoffed at that idea. I normally never did that, but I classified her even before the first word was out of her mouth. And that gave her the advantage.
I leaned back in my chair and forgot about everything that I had thought I had known. If I didn’t want to be caught on the losing end of this battle, I would need to reevaluate everything.
My finger tapped on the armrest of the chair as my brain spun, coming up with different theories before discarding them.
"I am busy for the next little while," I said slowly, my body never shifting out of its ’comfortable’ position. Better not startle the snake in the grass until I could figure out just what type of snake it was. "But after that, I’ll see if I want to meet up with you."
She cocked her head to the side and looked at me. "How can you be busy? It’s not like we really do much here. The ships take care of everything."
"Oh, you know me. Can’t stay still for long. I have a packed month of raiding, pillaging, and murdering to fit into my schedule before I am satisfied. Plus, I recently got the Easter Bunny as a pet. I need to make sure that she stays fed, too. It really is a full-time job," I explained, waiving my hand like it wasn’t a big deal.
"The Easter Bunny?" she replied, raising a single, perfectly manicured eyebrow.
"Yeah," I nodded. "Cutest little thing in the universe. I call her Princess," I continued with a bright smile. "Maybe when we meet, I can introduce you to her."
"You know the Easter Bunny doesn’t exist, right?"
"I can assure you. I just got back from visiting a whole ship of them. They exist," I said with a nod of my head. Thankfully, Night and Pumpkin decided to enter the bridge at that moment. Calling Pumpkin over, I picked him up and put him on my lap.
"I don’t suppose you could hide those teeth, could you?" I whispered into his ear. Pumpkin nodded his head and closed his mouth, only his top two canines sticking out over his bottom lip. I turned him around so that Pippa could see the bunny.
Hiding my smile behind his head, I added this as a checkmark on my side of the battle. I had one, and she didn’t.
She blinked a few times but didn’t say a word. There was that crack I was looking for. Now, I might as well add to that. "Oh, and have I introduced you to GA? Well, his real name is Au’dtair, but I like to call him GA because he is my Guardian Angel, saving me all the time from the big bad universe."
GA, understanding his cue, came to step behind me and next to Midnight. "And then there is Ye’tab, so smart. There isn’t a single system he has not been able to get into or information out of," I continued, introducing my next mate.
Not bothering to acknowledge the other woman, Ye’tab went to go stand on the other side of Midnight and stood perfectly still.
"Tha’juen is the newest member of my band of merry men, but he is phenomenal in a fight. I have never seen anything like it." Like the others, Tha’juen entered Pippa’s view and stood like a sentry on my left.
"And last, but certainly not least, is Da’kea. He has a whole, long name that I tend to forget, but I do remember that he sits on the Saalistaja Elder’s council and acts as a diplomat between them and the Alliance." I smiled brightly as Da’kea came to stand on my right, his head tilted up.
All of my males but Midnight were in their nano armor, their faces completely hidden from view.
"I don’t know how it happened. It was like love at first sight," I continued, letting out a soft sigh of happiness. "They saw me and declared their never-ending love for me. I mean, really. What’s a girl to do? Of course, I let them stay with me. I’m not completely heartless."
Pippa opened her mouth a few times before closing it without a sound. Her eyes narrowed as she stared at me, and all of a sudden, the communication link between the two of us cut off.
"What was that about?" asked Midnight after a moment of silence. I continued to stare out at the blank screen in front of me, not really hearing him. "Star beam?"
I shook my head and gently placed Pumpkin on the ground before rising to my feet.
"Star shine?" tried Midnight again as I strolled out of the command bridge. Fucking universe adding more things to my plate. Couldn’t let me have one day off, now could it?
"That was a declaration of war," I said concisely as the guys followed me out of the bridge and toward our living room. "That fucking bitch played me. And now I am pissed."
