Chapter 62: Teon’s declaration[1]
Suddenly seeing his father on the big screen brought back a lot of memories for Leon, and he subconsciously clenched his fists tightly within his pockets.
A flood of bitter, painful images rushed through his mind all at once, making his blood run hot with a sudden surge of resentment.
He remembered the cold, judgmental stares, the harsh words of rejection, and the heavy feeling of worthlessness that had defined his life in that family.
The giant, glowing projection of the man who had abandoned him felt like a heavy weight pressing down on his chest, forcing him to stand completely frozen on the crowded road as his knuckles turned white from the sheer force of his grip.
He wasn’t the only one who was completely surprised by the sudden interruption of the regular city broadcasts, as the ordinary people walking all around him were also immediately glued to the giant television screens.
The bustling noise of the street died down to a sudden, stunned murmur as hundreds of pedestrians stopped dead in their tracks, their eyes widened in absolute shock and disbelief.
People who had been rushing to work, talking on their phones, or browsing nearby shops all turned their heads upward, completely paralyzed by the unexpected appearance of the S-rank player on every available digital display.
They started mumbling frantically to themselves, a wave of excited and anxious whispers rapidly spreading through the dense crowd like wildfire.
People nudged their friends and pointed toward the glowing holographic projections, their voices trembling with deep awe as they said, "Isn’t that Teon Allistar, the legendary guildmaster of the Roaring Lions?"
The sudden presence of such a massive historical figure on a public advertisement screen was an incredibly rare event, and everyone immediately realized that whatever was about to happen was going to completely shake the entire foundation of their city.
There was almost no one in the civilized world who didn’t know the name and face of Teon Allistar, since he was, after all, an elite S-rank player and one of the absolute biggest powerhouses in not just the country but that whole continent.
His incredible combat exploits, his massive record of cleared high-rank dungeons, and his overwhelming physical strength had made him a living myth among regular citizens.
To the common public, he wasn’t just a regular player or a wealthy businessman; he was a god-like guardian whose survival decisions directly dictated the safety and prosperity of millions of people across multiple borders.
Teon, on the other hand, simply cleared his throat slightly on the massive screens, the deep, rumbling sound echoing perfectly from the high-tech audio speakers of every surrounding building.
He adjusted his stance, looking directly out into the camera lens with a friendly expression that completely hid his usual ruthless nature.
He raised a thick hand in a polite greeting, his commanding voice echoing across the wide city blocks as he said, "Hey, lovely people of Ranxdale, I’m just here to make an important announcement and clarify a few things."
Ranxdale was the official name of the vast, highly competitive country they lived in, a place where the traditional laws and government regulations were mainly upheld and enforced by the major guilds and powerful high-ranking players.
In this modern era of dangerous dungeons and magical beasts, traditional military forces had taken a backseat to individual combat potential.
The entities who possessed the highest levels of raw power were the ones who truly controlled the resources, wrote the security laws, and managed the daily lives of the population, leaving ordinary citizens completely dependent on their protection.
One of those supreme ruling guilds was the Roaring Lions, so Teon sure held an incredible amount of political and military power in the country and the continent as a whole.
His personal decisions could instantly shift the stock market, change the border defenses, or determine which dungeons were open to the public.
Seeing him take over the entire media network of the city meant that whatever message he was preparing to deliver was bound to become the official law of the land by the end of the day.
Leon was the most eager out of all the people standing watching the giant face of Teon, his sharp eyes locking onto his father’s features with a burning, desperate intensity.
He wanted desperately to know what the old man wanted to say to the public after the bloody slaughter that had taken place the previous afternoon.
Teon cleared his throat once again, his eyes staring confidently out into the city streets.
"I’m sure you all must have heard the news, about the strange player who bursted into a dungeon gate alone, and killed players." he said.
Leon’s eyes narrowed instantly when he heard that specific sentence.
A cold wave of sharpness washed over his expression, and his entire body went completely rigid in shock.
’He’s talking about... me?’ he thought, not expecting his actions to be addressed so quickly on a nationwide scale by the guildmaster himself.
He didn’t know what to think about this sudden turn of events, but he was sure that nothing good was going to come out of whatever Teon wanted to say next.
Seeing the old man smile so warmly on a public broadcast filled Leon with a deep sense of suspicion and caution, knowing that a trap was likely being laid out for him in front of the entire world.
Since yesterday, he had fully expected the powerful guilds to hunt him down, or at least try to track his movements and then try to arrest him for the slaughter on the open road.
He had spent the entire night on high alert, preparing for a massive assault from the city’s squads. He knew that killing B-rank hunters in broad daylight was a massive crime that usually triggered an immediate, aggressive manhunt by the authorities.
In normal cases like this, a highly powerful player would be sent after the rogue player, and they would be heavily tasked to bring him in either dead or alive.
