Chapter 50: Old gloves?
The impact sounded like a bomb going off. The huge, monstrous figure of the four-meter man was immediately sent flying backward through the air, completely losing all control over his body.
His spine snapped straight and his back arched painfully from the pure, concentrated force of the punch as he was lifted off his feet and hurled away from the dungeon entrance.
He flew backward like a cannonball, slamming violently into a bunch of the low-rank players who were standing in the perimeter.
The players were knocked around like bowling pins, their weapons flying out of their hands as Varis’ massive body plowed right through them.
He continued soaring through the air for several meters before finally hitting his back on a parked car in the middle of the road meters away from the gate.
The heavy force of his body hitting the vehicle pushed the entire car backward across the asphalt, the tires screeching loudly against the ground before it finally stopped.
The impact created a massive, deep dent across the metal surface of the vehicle, shattering all the windows into tiny pieces and wrapping the frame of the car tightly around Varis’s large back.
As the dust began to settle around the wrecked vehicle, Varis let out a agonizing gasp. A thick torrent of dark red blood spurted out of his mouth, staining his face and his red fur.
He looked down at his torso in complete horror, seeing that his high-quality armor had been completely shattered, and a deep, caved-in hole was left on his chest exactly where Leon’s fist had connected.
Larry slowly glanced back over his shoulder, his body freezing as his eyes searched the road behind him.
His breath caught in his throat when he finally found his partner sprawled out helplessly on the ground meters away.
Varis, who had just been a towering four-meter force of destruction, was now slumped against the ruined vehicle like a broken doll.
The sight was so completely unreal that Larry’s mind struggled to accept what his eyes were seeing.
He stared at the deep dent in the car and the blood leaking onto the asphalt, completely paralyzed by the sudden turn of events.
’I didn’t even see him move...’ he thought in horror.
Varis had simply been sent flying so fast that he had zoomed right past Larry like a bullet. Larry hadn’t even registered a punch being thrown, nor had he seen his massive partner leave the ground before he was already crashing into the vehicle behind them.
To him, the entire sequence had happened in the blink of an eye.
Larry slowly turned his head back around to face Leon, his heart pounding heavily against his ribs.
The confidence he had felt just moments ago while standing alongside his fellow B-rank player was completely gone, replaced by a cold, suffocating dread.
He looked at Leon, who simply stared back at him with a slightly smug expression, his face completely relaxed and devoid of any strain.
Leon looked down at his own hands, turning them over casually as if he were inspecting them for the very first time.
He seemed to be marveling at his own power, checking the fingers and palms where that strength had just come from.
He didn’t even look at Larry or the surrounding players, treating them like complete afterthoughts while he focused entirely on his own hands.
As Larry watched Leon analyze his hands, his eyes shrunk into bits. The sudden movement caught his attention, and he focused his gaze on the boy’s hands, finally noticing something that they had all failed to pay attention to before.
In their rush to analyze his level and demand his secrets, they had completely overlooked a massive change in his equipment.
On Leon’s hands were a pair of old, thick black and red gloves. They wrapped firmly around his fingers and wrists, hugging his skin tightly.
The design didn’t look flashy or magical at first glance; instead, the gloves seemed so plain and even a little worn out, looking like something a common worker might use rather than a high-ranking hunter.
But as Larry stared at the dark material, he deeply doubted that they were just a pair of ordinary gloves.
Furthermore, Larry remembered the video footage perfectly. He knew for a fact that Leon didn’t have them on him when he first charged into the dungeon gate hours ago.
He had entered the portal with bare hands, meaning these strange, worn-out gloves were a treasure he had directly pulled from the inside of the C-rank dungeon.
None of Leon’s hands were clenched into fists, so it was clear he wasn’t even using the same weapon he used before also.
When they had analyzed the video footage of Leon fighting his way into the dungeon, they had noted he used whatever he used produced a faint smoke effect.
But right now, his fingers were completely relaxed and loose. There was no smoke rising from his skin, and no energy crackling around his arms, meaning he had completely overwhelmed Varis using nothing but the raw, power.
Larry stared intensely at the worn fabric, his mind racing as he thought, ’what are those gloves... just ordinary old gloves?’
They looked so unassuming, completely lacking the glowing runes, metallic plates, or vibrant aura that usually accompanied high-ranking artifacts.
Dropped items from a gate of that level were supposed to be standard Rare grade at best. But a part of him stubbornly told him they were indeed a treasure from the gate, as there was no other explanation for where Leon could have acquired them during his short time inside.
Leon’s voice suddenly broke him out of his thoughts, a calm smirk still playing on his lips as he asked, "What’s wrong? Are you not going to attack me anymore?"
No one responded to the provocative question, though. The words hung heavily in the air, met only by the sound of ragged breathing and the rustling of the wind through the empty street.
The large group of players was completely terrified to their core at what they had just witnessed. All the greedy confidence and arrogant posturing they had displayed while waiting outside the gate had completely evaporated.
