Chapter 51: Growing Curiosity
Silence fell over the place for a short while, then suddenly, the silk threads inside his body shook, and he felt the spider woman’s overwhelming presence pressing on him.
"’Is this all you brought? And why is it in such poor shape?’"
Her powerful voice rang inside his head like thunder, and he trembled upon hearing it. He took a brief moment to calm himself and get used to her overwhelming aura, then replied:
"Forgive me for my shortcomings, but, as you can see, I am still in a very bad condition, and this does not allow me to use my full abilities, so I truly hope you will be a little patient until I fully recover, at that point I will not face any problems with hunting."
"’...’" The spider woman found herself unable to speak, for upon hearing his extremely polite and courteous response, she forgot all the words of rebuke and threat she had intended to say.
Arthur noticed that she had almost stumbled over her words, and mocked: ’Did this surprise you? Just wait, I have much more of it.’
He prevented himself with difficulty from smiling, and since he had not yet confirmed the hypothesis of her being able to read his thoughts, he showed no hostility, or hatred, not even a trace of anger.
He tried as much as possible to make his thoughts and feelings toward her positive and genuine. She was neither his enemy nor his captor, but merely a lady he respected for her strength and admired slightly for her beauty.
Yes, this was nothing more than a big lie that was difficult to fool any sensible person with, but in truth, it was enough to handle a monster like her.
In the center of the nest, the spider woman was lying inside a thick white cocoon connected to several silk threads that pulsed from time to time.

She was in human form, which made the changes in her emotions appear on her captivating facial features.
’How is this possible? I am still unable to understand this wolf even after planting my control webs inside him, his thoughts are very complex, and his emotions, why are they strange? Everything about him is abnormal.’ She furrowed her brows in great confusion.
The Control Web skill was one of her most distinctive and complex skills, for besides its remarkable ability to almost completely control the body of the victim she plants it inside, it allowed her to form a powerful mental link, which enabled her to bypass the language barrier and communicate with him, as well as communicate through telepathy.
In addition to that, she was able to get a glimpse of his thoughts and emotions, and if he was within close range, she could even monitor what he was doing.
Despite her high intelligence, the spider woman was not a creature that could be described as wise, and for this reason, her ignorance and confusion quickly made her angry, and the prolonged silence made her feel a kind of humiliation.
She gritted her pure white perfectly arranged teeth, then said in a threatening tone: "’Enough of your tricks, wolf, I let you live, and was generous enough to allow you to rest for several days, yet, you are still giving me flimsy excuses.’"
She controlled the silk threads inside his body, and made them wrap around his vital organs and squeeze them faintly, then added: "’Listen to me well, if you do not prove your usefulness to me I will dispose of you, in the most painful of ways.’"
Arthur’s facial features convulsed from the intensity of the pain, he let out a muffled groan, and as calmly as possible replied:
"I understand, just give me some time. No, give me only two days, and I promise that after that, I will hunt a large number of monsters for you daily."
Despite how difficult it was, he maintained the clarity of his thoughts and emotions, and with a kind of spontaneity, he moved his body with difficulty, and patted the crocodile carcass with his paw, removing some leaves and dirt stuck to it.
"I realize this prey isn’t much, and I also ate a little of it, but I truly hope you will accept it from me for now."
Again the spider woman found herself unable to speak, for no matter how hard she tried, she faced difficulty comprehending his unexpected and illogical actions.
She had imprisoned him, and forced him to do what she wanted, and in a sense, she had tormented him both mentally and physically, yet, he did not hate her, and was not angry at her, and he was not afraid of her either, quite the contrary, he was very calm and acting as though he was following her orders willingly, and this was in truth something frightening, and suspicious.
’This wolf, he truly makes me angry, and what is this strange feeling of unease that comes over me? Should I kill him and rid myself of his nuisance? No, not now, I still want to know his truth, and I also need to unravel the mystery surrounding his abnormal bloodline.’
The spider woman had lived for several decades, yet, this was the first time in her life that her emotions had become so conflicted.
Despite her anger, her curiosity about him was growing more and more, and at the same time, that desire stemming from her beastly side that urged her to eat him decreased.

She fell into deep thought, and the silence stretched longer than the first time, and this made Arthur who had maintained his composed appearance show some signs of concern.
In the end, she decided to overlook his impertinence, and replied coldly: "’Fine, I’ll allow it, I will give you two additional days, but if you fail to keep your promise, I will punish you harshly.’"
The silk threads stopped crushing his organs, and he released a breath of relief. He bowed his head slightly, and replied:
"Thank you. I request your permission to leave, I am still hungry, and want to search for a weak prey to eat."
"’You may go.’" Despite her cold tone, and all the previous talk filled with threats, the spider woman was in truth pleased with herself, because she had made the right decision and imprisoned him instead of eating him.
Just his ability to bring prey of this size in his current condition proved how useful he was, and if he continued bringing more, she would be able to regain her full health in a much shorter time than she had expected.
The silk threads in the nest moved, and wrapped around the carcass, then pulled it inside where she was.
Outside, Arthur did not continue standing in his place, for he left the moment she permitted him to, and when he had moved a considerable distance away, his lips twisted into a small smile.
’Well, I was not crazy after all, my plan is truly working, the fact that she said she would punish me instead of killing me is more than sufficient proof that I managed to influence her in the way I want.’
He felt a little relief, and to avoid revealing his plan, he stopped thinking about the matter, and headed off to search for something to eat.
