Chapter 142: Secrets of the Inheritance space
Drip! Drip!
Drop by drop, a crimson droplet fell to the ground. A long scar stretching from her brows to her chin had appeared on the White Knight Guild Master’s face. Her two eyes were slightly dazed as she stared at the knight.
If she had been just one step slower, her skull might have split open. However, as a bloodline awakener, vital force was not something to be underestimated. New cells quickly rewound the wound, and it had already started healing.
Thinking up to this point, a chill ran down her spine.
Meanwhile, completely unaware of her mental state, the sword knight raised its sword upward and roared, "Challenger, rise! You showed up, now fight me, or prepare to accept death!"
Sword... sword... sword...
Lukas muttered silently in his heart while watching the scene. He had never expected to see a high and mighty bloodline awakener struggle like this, almost on the verge of death, battered like a dog.
He was just worrying that if something of that caliber was beaten like this, his fate would be no different. Lukas was just imagining how gruesome his death would be when suddenly he had an epiphany.
Sword knight... sword... sword god... sword inheritance... He had a feeling all of this was somehow connected.
Suddenly, he had an idea.
Thinking this, he started moving, stepping in front of the knight and the White Knight Guild Master.
"You get back. I will deal with it."
The White Knight Guild Master’s eyes shook. Her mouth opened and closed several times, but no words came out. She wanted to say that even a third-realm bloodline awakener was unable to do anything against the knight, so what could he, a mere second-realm expert, achieve?
Fighting the sword knight would be throwing his life away.
Maybe it was guilt from misunderstanding him and almost killing him earlier, but the White Knight Guild Master could not bring herself to stop him.
The sword knight patiently watched this newcomer without any impatience. Its pristine metal armor reflected Lukas’s appearance clearly.
"Sword knight, as you can see, I have no sword. As a servant of the Sword God, don’t you feel any shame in attacking an empty-handed person?"
Maybe Lukas’s words made sense, but the sword knight only stopped for a moment before raising its sword toward Lukas.
Swish!
The sword tore through the air. Lukas had barely blinked when the sword was right in front of his eyes. Reacting quickly, he stepped aside and grabbed the sword. Even then, the force generated by the sword knight almost made him fly into the air.
"You are not going anywhere!"
Lukas gritted his teeth and gripped the sword with both hands. The veins on his hands bulged, but at last, the sword came to a halt.
He brought the sword right in front of him and took a fighting stance, asking the knight to attack him.
He might not be a Blood Infusion Stage expert, but Lukas had a feeling that defeating this sword knight required not raw power, but something else.
Before he could think further, the knight’s sword came crashing down on him. Lukas watched the sword’s motion and simply sidestepped it, avoiding the blow. Twisting his body to the side, he created an opening and slashed upward.
A neat and clean slash carved a large gash across the knight’s surface.
From the open wound in the knight’s armor, particles of light emerged and merged with Lukas’s body.
Lukas was confused about what the hell was going on, but when the particles of light merged into his body, messages appeared in front of his vision.
[Ding! Your understanding of the sword has increased!]
[Your sword comprehension has increased.]
Ever since his sword mastery had reached the advanced level, very few things could push his understanding further. But now, by simply injuring the sword knight slightly, his comprehension had begun to increase.
At this rate, he might reach the grandmaster level.
A grandmaster swordsman, not even at the Blood Infusion Stage yet — just how rare would that be? If this news were to spread, the entire world would shake.
The White Knight Guild Master’s mouth opened wide, her jaw nearly hitting the ground.
The sword knight that had almost obliterated her had been injured by a guy weaker than her. How was this even possible?
This should not be possible.
The gears in the White Knight Guild Master’s head turned. There had to be some reason. Soon, her eyes narrowed as a possibility flashed through her head.
Maybe the knight can only be injured by the sword...
As soon as this thought appeared in her mind, she became certain that this was most likely the reason.
...
Meanwhile, Lukas did not know that the guild master had almost reached the same conclusion as him. His thoughts were on something else.
Lukas’s eyes scanned the knight’s figure up and down, a hint of realization appearing in them.
This knight might be strong, but when it came to sword skill, it was barely at the beginner level.
The sword knight attacked him again and again without stopping, but Lukas easily avoided all of the blows. With just one move, every time the knight’s sword would brush past his figure without touching him, while the damage Lukas was inflicting was multiplying.
The White Knight Guild Master, who was watching from the distance, narrowed her eyes. Her expression grew slightly stern and even a little displeased. She could not stop herself from criticizing Lukas.
Why is he dragging the fight for no reason at all?
It was clear from their earlier clash that the knight’s physical fitness was far above hers, so she could not understand why Lukas was dragging the fight for no reason at all.
If Lukas knew what she was thinking, he would have surely smiled. If anyone else did what he was doing, it would be plain stupid and suicidal, but Lukas was not a normal awakeners — he was someone with undead traits. He had almost endless stamina. In a battle of star energy, he might not even last a minute, but in a battle of endurance and stamina, he had no opponent.
He could feel the White Knight Guild Master looking at him with disbelief in her eyes, urging him to end the battle quickly, but Lukas fought at his own pace, dealing damage only when he was completely sure.
So the fight continued like this for half an hour until the knight fell to the ground in a cascade of bright light particles.
All those particles quickly merged with Lukas’s body, leaving the White Knight Guild Master completely stunned.
It appeared that only those who fought the knight could reap the benefits.
Once Lukas absorbed all the particles, his eyes lit up.
I’m almost at the verge of a breakthrough. Just a slight push, and I will have a breakthrough in sword understanding.
He muttered in excitement. The White Knight Guild Master could also tell what had happened and attributed it to him successfully defeating the knight. As such, she could not help but say:
"Don’t feel too happy just yet. There is no way out of here yet. Who knows, there might be more of these knights."
Hearing her words, Lukas simply smiled.
Do you think I’m jealous of your skills? If you want, I can also teach you the skill. Just accept me as your master, and all of my incredible sword skills would be yours.
Most of the time, Lukas carried himself cautiously, but for some reason, upon seeing the White Knight Guild Master’s serious face, he felt the urge to tease her.
The White Knight Guild Master’s expression turned cold as ice upon hearing his words.
"Arrogant! Do you think that just because you defeated this knight by mere luck, you are capable enough to teach me, a third-realm bloodline awakener?"
Although the White Knight Guild Master had witnessed Lukas defeat the knight with her own eyes, in her heart she could not admit that she was weaker than Lukas.
Lukas fell silent when he heard her words. He simply shrugged and did not want to push her too much. She was indeed right — she was the sword knight and could be easily injured by the sword.
With nothing better to do, he started moving again.
Although he was not completely sure, he could feel that after defeating the sword knight, the world around him had changed slightly in a way he could not exactly tell.
He had barely moved a couple of hundred meters when he noticed a bright white pillar in the distance.
This pillar... when did it appear?
Lukas’s eyes narrowed with suspicion. He was sure this pillar had not been there when he first arrived.
Moving closer, he noticed a couple of words engraved on the pillar’s surface in an unfamiliar language.
Lukas was sure he had never seen that script before, but upon seeing the text on the pillar surface, the White Knight Guild Master’s eyes flashed with enlightenment.
Ancient Star Dimension legacy... one wrong move to rule the world! A sword technique.
Even though he was not paying attention to her, he still heard her faint whisper.
