Chapter 138: Makeshift

The affected area of the explosion actually persisted for over one and a half kilometers away from the center.

The two of them were about a kilometer away before they eventually landed on that tree. Now five hundred meters away from where they initially landed, the two finally managed to see some trees and leaves unaffected dozens of meters away.

According to the survival guide they had been taught in school, in the absence of clothing, the wilderness will provide.

Given the situation they were in, the two of them fetched some wide leaves to make into makeshift clothing to cover their bodies up.

Both of their belongings were on the space bag, and both of their space bags were incinerated from the explosion, so they could only resort to the traditional way.

There was a lot of loot inside his space bag: the two revolvers were there, his phone was there, and the new hoodies he just bought were there, as well as the meat of the snake that he planned to cook later on.

He felt that it was a huge waste, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Both of them took the leaves and weaved them using fibers of vines in the surroundings.

Lexie had some practice with this kind of survival method before, so it did not take long for her to make a tube to cover her upper body and a skirt to cover her lower part. Although much of her skin was still exposed, she did not think too much about it anymore.

After she was done, she turned to look at Desther and noticed that he was still trying to patch up some leaves in a very primitive manner.

The leaves were not neatly arranged, some were protruding with each other, some parts were thicker, and some were thin and would easily tear apart from small movements.

Shaking her head, she decided to help him instead.

"Let me do that for you instead." For what Desther had done for her, she thought that it was only a given that she would help him as well. Sewing and weaving the leaves together was just a simple matter for her as well.

She had a lot of practice with it before, and although she does not consider herself an expert in this craft, she could at least proudly say that she was no beginner when it comes to it.

Desther looked at her and noticed that she was already done with her clothing. She also did it with such craftsmanship that he did not think it would be possible to do it in a short amount of time.

At the very least, he knew that he would not be able to make something as good.

’Did she use her skill?’ he thought to himself, thinking how her talent and her new class allowed her to have extreme speed.

Desther did not object to her gesture and handed out the leaves and the plant fibers he collected to her.

"This one will not do. Change this to a bigger one, this one has a hole..." Lexie pointed one leaf after the other and told Desther to change them.

Desther tilted his head in confusion upon noticing her action. He could have sworn that those leaves he collected were of good quality.

As if sensing his displeasure, Lexie rolled her eyes toward him and stated, "Come on, just do as I say and believe me in this. I have a lot of experience when it comes to something like this. Anything could happen in the wilderness after all. For a girl like me, having an extra cloth and knowing how to make one out of leaves could be a life changer."

Hearing that, Desther finally resigned and did as she instructed.

He had also used leaves as clothing before when he was just surviving alone. However, it was only for a few days since he went back to the broken malls to get brand new clothes instead.

And those few days of wearing those leaves were for sure some of the worst days of his life.

With the basis of the tube and the skirt she created, Desther could at least tell that she was indeed not a beginner at it. So he decided to collect some leaves around and allowed her to weave and sew them together for him.

In her hand, the leaves and the plant fiber seemed to have come to life. They were stitched up together and formed a whole piece seamlessly as if they were one to begin with.

A few moments later, a coat made of leaves presented itself in front of Desther.

"This should do. We can’t make something sophisticated with fresh leaves, just enough to cover us up. What do you think?"

She handed the coat to him, allowing him to check and try it on.

As Desther scanned and admired the coat made of leaves, Lexie could not help but wear a satisfied smile. She was proud of her creation, no matter how quick she did it with such basic material.

Sewing, weaving, stitching, knitting, and the like were her favorite hobbies to pass up time. It helps her to calm down and get rid of distracting thoughts, cultivating her mind while doing what she loves the most.

As she observed Desther, her gaze could not help wander around his bare body.

Since Desther always wore a hoodie and pants in school, this was the first time that she had ever seen him so exposed.

Although she knew that Desther always did exercise even before they awakened, she could still not help but be taken aback at how good his figure beneath the hoodie actually was.

There were still some burnt marks on his arms and shoulders, but they were now healing quite faster than she initially thought. Since he tucked her in earlier, his chest and abs were not injured, and even if they were, they might have already healed due to how minor they were.

She moved for a bit and decided to take a glance at his back as well, trying to check if the wounds or burnt mark was also healing well.

It was also at that moment that she saw something she did not expect.
