Chapter 135: Imminent Death
Doom loomed over her head. A chilly sensation assaulted her senses, her perception screaming danger to what was behind her.
As quick as she was as of this moment, her reaction time, enhanced by both her Talent and Class, still could not bridge the gap between the difference of their Tier.
Overwhelmed by the sheer raw attribute difference, she felt as if death had touched her shoulders as the pressure bore down on her like a raging storm amidst a tumultuous sea.
Time seemed to slow down for a moment. Her abilities and attributes went into overdrive as she tried to use Thunderstep and Tempest Step at the same time to get out of the current threatening situation as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately, the Shadow Monster’s claws, diffusing an aura of death, seemed to surge into a torrent of waves as it accelerated to an unbelievable rate. Space itself seemed to have been torn apart as its razor-sharp claws came crashing down toward her back.
The world seemed to freeze at that exact moment.
Her pupils radiating with divine lightning pulsated as the Shadow Monster’s claws descended upon her. The suffocating aura of death wrapped around her like chains forged from the abyss.
Every instinct screamed.
Move! Escape! Now!
Thunder crackled, and a surge of tempest erupted beneath her feet.
The dual movement skills pushed her body beyond its limits, generating force enough to shatter the ground beneath her into a web of cracks.
However, despite everything, it was still not enough.
The Shadow Monster was faster, more decisive, and more cunning.
However, right at that moment—
A brilliant golden light erupted across the battlefield.
BOOOM!
The air seemed to split apart; a divine radiance descended like a falling sun.
A figure radiant with divine light appeared right beside the Shadow Monster.
His arrival was too sudden, too quick, and right at the exact moment before the claw hit its intended target.
An aura of supreme radiance danced around his body. His black hair had turned golden, fluttering amidst the storm of celestial energy pouring from his figure.
His eyes glowed like miniature golden stars; a sacred pressure exploded outward with his foot extended toward the Shadow Monster like a stream.
Supreme Form!
Desther had arrived.
The Shadow Monster’s body distorted the moment his foot collided with its body.
BOOM!
Like a bullet, it broke the barrier of sound and was smashed away like a launched arrow.
The earth split even further; a shockwave generated from the collision ripped through the battlefield like thunder incarnate.
Trees were uprooted as the body of the Shadow Monster crashed into them with immense force. Its eyes blasted out; pain it never felt before came crashing down on its mind. Its sturdy body caved in; if it had any bones, most of it would have been broken by the sheer force contained within that violent kick.
Desther took a brief glance at Lexie. He saw that she was alright, although a little bit muddled from the fear of death that gripped her.
He did not offer any words of consolation. His figure vanished before her eyes, and at the next moment, he was already before the Shadow Monster’s body once again.
A speed that defied common sense, a speed that bordered on teleportation.
A thousand attributes enhanced by the Supreme Form came into full display at this given moment.
His fist descended like a sledgehammer toward the Shadow Monster, smashing its body to the ground violently.
A huge cavity was formed on the ground with the Shadow Monster at its core.
Before it could even take a moment to recover, Desther had lifted it up and twisted his body forcefully to the side to knee it up.
Launched into the sky, the Shadow Monster felt its mind buzzing with fear and trepidation as another strike from above smashed it down like a cannonball.
Every strike felt like a star descending toward it.
Pain it never felt before coursed through its entire body every time it came into contact with Desther’s fist or foot.
On the ground, Desther once again appeared beside it as if he had been already there in the first place.
His fist came crashing toward its face; its body once again tore through the air, crashing through trees after trees.
Just as Desther was about to follow, his perception kicked in and noticed a faint light intercepting the Shadow Monster’s body as if predicting its trajectory.
Wrath of Thunder!
It needed not to be explained in words.
Lexie’s intention was clear; her eyes glowed with a ferocity unbecoming of a lady but befitting of a warrior itching for a glorious battle.
Thunder echoed as the sword bearing divine lightning descended like a raging comet.
BOOM!
Still processing the unbearable pain caused by Desther’s attacks, the Shadow Monster was no longer able to think straight. Its body received the divine lightning like a much-deserved retribution. Its body descended into chaos.
Its body was now damaged beyond recognition; its shape became irregular and unrefined, no longer looking like a humanoid shadow as it once was earlier.
However, even with it looking like that, Desther and Lexie knew that the battle was far from over.
Time and time again, the Shadow Monster had proven itself to be sturdier than usual.
Like a cockroach refusing to die, the Shadow Monster was still breathing, no matter how faint it had become after receiving both of their attacks.
There was no rest for the wicked.
Desther took a step forward and arrived instantly in front of Lexie.
Without needing any words, both of them went in sync and delivered one devastating blow against the Shadow Monster one after the other.
Their coordination was unrefined, but it was evolving. Becoming seamless, like poetry of motion in the making.
Tossing the Shadow Monster away with a punch, Lexie arrived in the monster’s trajectory and slashed with her lightning sword.
Even before the Shadow Monster could land on the devastated ground, Desther was already there beneath it, kicking it back above like a soccer ball that was not allowed to touch the floor.
Attacks landed on the Shadow Monster one after the other.
Each attack caused its shadow to dim and crack. Its whole body was now deformed beyond recognition and seemed to be on the verge of destruction.
Any moment now, the Shadow Monster would surely face its imminent death.
The Shadow Monster seemed to feel its looming fate as well.
As it kept on getting tossed around with the two growing coordination, an earth-shattering roar suddenly echoed from within the depths of its soul.
ROAR!
Sensing the sudden situation, Desther’s eyes widened in surprise; his mind screamed for his body to get away as far as possible.
Lexie seemed to have felt the looming threat as well.
Without hesitation, and without needing to communicate with each other, the two bolted away as far as they could. Away from the Shadow Monster.
As of this moment, the Shadow Monster’s whole body trembled as it suddenly expanded like a balloon.
Energy seemed to well inside it, too much and too dense for even its own body to handle.
It swelled like a pufferfish, threatening to burst apart like a ticking bomb.
Both Desther and Lexie knew what it was about to do.
Sacrifice itself, go for mutual destruction, making its own body akin to a nuclear bomb that would explode.
Awakened Professionals could already dodge a bullet even at close range. Those even higher would no longer even bother to dodge, as bullets would become ineffective due to their own means of combat.
For such a monster, with such strength and attributes, its body detonating like a bomb would create more destructiveness compared to its usual strength.
Although a method rarely used by monsters and professionals alike, this method was indeed possible and not nonexistent.
Hence, the moment the two of them knew what the Shadow Monster was planning, they did not linger for any second and immediately bolted away as fast as they could, before the Shadow Monster’s body exploded.
Lexie continuously used her skills Thunderstep and Tempest Step, enhanced by her Thunder Empress Form, to move away like a bolt of lightning.
Desther did not use a skill, but his raw attribute enhanced in the Supreme Form was more than enough to keep up with her and looked like he was even faster.
Behind them, the Shadow Monster’s body that expanded beyond normal pulsated like a beating heart.
Its rhythmic sound echoed like a war drum announcing an imminent catastrophe about to descend in the world.
The beat grew denser and quicker, and by the time the body reached its limit, the beating sound stopped, followed by a deafening silence.
And then—
BOOOM!
