Chapter 167: The Humans are Weak
The next moment, an enormous countdown slowly appeared high in the sky.
[10.]
[9.]
Aric slowly drew the sword from his waist. A crisp metallic ring echoed through the air as the silver blade reflected the sunlight above the arena, radiating an icy, razor sharp gleam.
[8.]
Grom slowly clenched both fists before violently smashing them together. The instant his fists collided, a thunderous boom erupted across the arena, so powerful that even the surrounding air seemed to tremble.
[7.]
The gazes of both fighters finally collided in midair.
Neither moved first. Neither was willing to make the opening move, as both were waiting for the very last moment.
[6.]
The arena was so silent that one could almost hear the sound of each other’s breathing.
[5.]
Every pair of eyes remained firmly fixed upon the center of the battlefield.
[4.]
Even the supreme powerhouses seated within the VIP lounges of the various races had stopped speaking, quietly awaiting the official beginning of the match.
[3.]
[2.]
The air throughout the entire Central City Arena seemed to freeze.
[1.]
In the very next instant, the Player Association Vice President’s majestic voice resounded across heaven and earth.
"The First Elimination Match Officially Begins!"
At the very same instant, the two figures standing in the center moved almost simultaneously.
Aric exploded forward with a powerful push of his legs, shooting across the battlefield like an arrow released from its bow. The full power of his A Rank class, Gale Swordsman, erupted without reservation as emerald wind mana swirled around his body, boosting his speed to its absolute limit.
In the span of a single second, he crossed dozens of meters, his longsword slicing through the air with a sharp whistle as it thrust directly toward Grom’s throat.
"So fast!"
Excitement immediately appeared on the faces of many spectators in the Human section. They had known Grom possessed overwhelming strength, but Aric’s speed had exceeded nearly everyone’s expectations. Some of the weaker players couldn’t even follow his movements with their eyes.
However...
Faced with the sword that had already reached him, Grom remained rooted to the spot without retreating even half a step. There wasn’t the slightest trace of tension within his golden beastlike eyes. Instead, a look of open contempt slowly spread across his face, as though the human genius who had reached the Top Thirty Two wasn’t an opponent at all, but merely prey incapable of posing even the smallest threat.
The next moment,
Boom!
Grom suddenly stepped forward.
The instant his massive foot struck the arena floor, an earth shaking explosion rang out as countless spiderweb cracks spread across the solid ground beneath him. At the same time, his enormous body burst forward with terrifying speed that completely defied his size. His thick right fist, resembling a pillar of forged steel, tore through the air with a deafening sonic boom as it met Aric’s sword head on.
Clang!
The instant fist and blade collided, a deafening metallic roar echoed throughout the arena.
Countless spectators widened their eyes in disbelief.
Grom had actually deflected Aric’s full powered thrust using nothing but his bare fist.
For the first time, Aric’s expression distorted.
But before he could recover his balance, Grom gave him no chance to breathe. Stepping forward once again with his left foot, he unleashed another punch carrying even greater force, aiming directly for Aric’s chest.
Aric’s pupils contracted violently.
With no time to evade, he hurriedly raised his sword horizontally in front of him, attempting to block the attack.
BOOM!!
A thunderous explosion erupted, and Aric was blasted away like a cannonball.
His sword flew from his grasp, spinning repeatedly through the air before crashing into the ground near the edge of the arena.
Meanwhile, his own body smashed through the stone floor, carving a long trail of destruction before finally crashing into the energy barrier.
Pfft!
A mouthful of blood burst from his lips.
His arms trembled uncontrollably.
His chest had visibly caved inward.
He struggled to stand several times, yet every attempt ended in failure.
The entire arena fell into stunned silence.
"Aric Raine has lost the ability to continue fighting."
"Winner of the First Match, Grom Baruk of the Velhari Race!"
The next second, the Velhari section erupted. Tens of thousands of Velhari warriors rose to their feet simultaneously, pounding their fists against their chests as thunderous roars shook the entire Central City Arena. Their wild celebration drowned out nearly every other race present.
"Hahaha!"
"So this is humanity’s so called genius?"
"He couldn’t even survive two punches!"
"Too weak!"
"Pathetically weak!"
"This is the strength of your younger generation?"
Many Velhari openly mocked the Human section, laughing loudly while directing jeering taunts toward them. Their ridicule echoed throughout the arena, causing the expressions of countless Human players to darken.
The once lively Human spectator section had fallen completely silent.
Many young players clenched their fists tightly.
Although everyone understood that defeat was inevitable in an elimination tournament, losing the opening battle to the Velhari, their longtime rivals in this layer, felt like a burning humiliation.
On the floating commentator’s platform, Mithrash took a slow breath before speaking.
"What an unexpected yet incredibly decisive battle. From beginning to end, Grom never gave Aric a single opportunity to fight back. The difference in raw strength between them was far greater than any of us had anticipated."
Count Dragon nodded calmly.
"When strength reaches the point where it completely overwhelms technique, speed loses much of its value."
"Grom has shown everyone what true domination looks like."
As medical personnel quickly entered the arena and carried the heavily injured, unconscious Aric away, the battlefield, stained with blood, soon returned to silence.
Yet the audience remained immersed in the overwhelming impact of the battle they had just witnessed.
However, the magical orbs clearly had no intention of allowing them much time to reflect.
Buzz!
The remaining thirty white crystals trembled once again.
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, two more crystals erupted with brilliant white light as twin pillars shot into the sky, instantly drawing every gaze back toward the massive screen.
[The Second Elimination Match has been determined.]
[Braka Human Race.]
[Thalar Keth Race.]
The moment his name appeared, Braka himself split into a broad grin before laughing loudly as he strode out from the contestants’ area.
"Hahaha! Finally my turn!"
The instant his final words fell, his mountainlike body crashed into the center of the arena.
The impact alone caused countless cracks to spread across the ground beneath his feet, leaving many spectators secretly clicking their tongues in amazement.
On the opposite side, the small Keth, Thalar, slowly walked into the arena.
Although his expression remained calm, a thin layer of sweat had unknowingly appeared across his forehead.
After all, the person standing opposite him was no ordinary contestant.
He was one of the monsters widely believed to possess the qualifications to win the championship.
