Chapter 141: Chapter 141— From Friends to Opponents
The trio looked all around them, trying to get a full grasp of what was actually going on but the only thing they could see was utter chaos.
Chaos produced by combat between two groups of living things and it wasn’t going well at all.
Cole and the rest could see their classmates and other fellow students battle humanoid looking dark beasts. The beast exuded a dark aura of death that felt extremely like the ones in the surroundings.
On some of the beasts the trio could see what looked to be parts of the academy which caused some confusion in them.
Only Cole had a bit of an idea of what was actually going on. Due to an event that happened to him not too long ago.
"They look extremely similar to the ones that the elder showed me,"
"But this one looked more ferocious," Cole thought.
"What the hell are those," Linda said with a disgusted face.
Cole opened his mouth to say something but he quickly closed them again upon having a second thought.
"Would she be able to fight them if she finds out," he muttered.
Cole thought for a bit before ultimately deciding to tell his friends what he knew.
"I think I know what they are," he said gently.
Upon hearing his words, his friends turned around to look at him in shock.
"You do?" Bryan was the first to speak.
"Yes. They are students that have been deeply corrupted by that dark energy," Cole said as he contorted in anger.
Despite seeing things that actually pointed straight at the fact like the pieces of uniform and all that, they still didn’t want to believe it.
"It can’t be right," Linda said in a slightly loud voice as she took a step back.
Her face displayed utter terror as she looked at the chaos in front of her. Fellow students were now forced to fight each other with everything they had just to survive.
Even after fighting with everything they had, Linda could still see students being disemboweled by the students turned dark beasts.
The trio had been lucky to manage to stay unnoticed for quite a while but that sudden shout from Linda finally attracted one of the dark beasts’ attention.
It turned its gruesome looking dark head straight at the trio and almost instantaneously charged straight at them.
The dark beast ran at a speed that was nothing to scoff at in any way and seconds later, it had arrived directly in front of Linda.
It opened its maw to take a large bite out of her but before its mouth could get close enough, Cole was about to arrive in time.
He arrived just beside the beast and used Partial acceleration on his hands sending it flying straight at the torso.
Despite not being in the perfect state of mind, since he also found it extremely difficult to do such a thing.
But there were things a man needed to do. This punch was moving so fast that it arrived in front of the beast instantaneously. Cole watched with gritted teeth as his punch landed directly on the beasts side.
As expected, the beast flung out like a loose Cannon and didn’t stop until it hit a wall. Cole watched the beast fly out with expectant eyes.
He felt the attack landed extremely cleanly and the power behind it was by no means small so he wasn’t expecting the beast to get up anytime soon or even ever.
But the unexpected was the exact thing that happened as Cole saw the beast stand back on his feet and shake its body like nothing happened.
Extreme confusion gripped Cole as he had no idea how the beast could get back up from such a punch like it was nothing.
While they were watching earlier, he could see the beast getting injured from attacks that were much weaker than what he just sent out.
"What the hell’s going on," Cole muttered.
The moment he saw the beast rising to his feet, Cole’s mind had already begun racing as he thought of what could have possibly caused that.
In his mind, he kept replaying all the events that happened not too long ago while he tried to connect dots and get tangible pieces of information from them.
Then it finally made sense as Cole realized something from what he had experienced.
"Only attacks that project Life energy works the best, physical attacks were almost completely ignored," he said.
He came to this conclusion after he remembered noticing most elemental attacks doing some level of damage.
As Elemental spirits were the most common class, most people were able to make some damage.
"Does that mean they are vulnerable to Life energy," Cole wondered.
The beast had already gotten a full composure of itself and was charging straight back at Cole.
"I should try a Lightning Coat then," he said gently.
Cole knew his friends didn’t actually know about the ability, so he turned to look at them while lightning sparks slowly formed around him.
Both Bryan and Linda looked at Cole with wide eyes as they looked at the connecting sparks and finally the coat of lightning around him.
"I hope they don’t ask me any question," Cole said to himself before looking away.
Now his eyes were locked on the beast that was charging straight at them from its previous crash site and Cole didn’t wait for it to get closer.
Instead he steadied himself and also charged straight at the beast. He didn’t use Kinetic Acceleration since it wasn’t needed.
When he felt like he had gotten close enough, he pushed off the ground changing his direction to the sky. The beast was forced to a halt as it looked up at Cole.
When his ascent reached the absolute peak, Cole was forcefully dragged down under gravity. His fall increased his momentum while Cole prepared a punch.
Before any one could attempt to react, Cole had arrived in front of the beast’s head and sent a punch flying at the beast head.
Bam!
A large sound resounded everywhere while Cole slowly felt something happening inside him.
"So this is what happened," he said with wide eyes.
