Chapter 317: Chapter 317: Tracking

"Brother Song, the client is paying a fortune. And they were very clear: we have to get Cheng Beilin hooked on drugs, and they want to see the results. We haven’t completely finished the job yet, and they haven’t paid the final balance. So... what should we do?"

"Hmph!" Brother Song snorted coldly and said nothing.

Seeing this, Brother Qi quickly put on a fawning smile and hurried to say, "Brother Song, actually, there’s something I haven’t told you yet."

"What is it?" Brother Song asked gruffly.

"When we grabbed the young miss of the Cheng Family, we grabbed someone else too. Well, not exactly grabbed... this pretty boy basically threw himself at us. He insisted on staying with the Cheng girl. At the time, our guys thought he was an idiot, so they just nabbed him too. And get this—it turned out to be a big surprise for us."

"What kind of surprise?" Brother Song asked, confused.

"Heh heh, that pretty boy is a doctor. Not only is he an expert in Western medicine, but he also knows a fair bit about traditional Chinese medicine. He said he’s willing to go to the lab and help us with our experiments..."

Before Brother Qi could finish, Brother Song exploded with rage. "What the hell is wrong with you people? You don’t even know his background, and you just let him find out about the lab? What if he’s an undercover cop? Are you all pig-headed? Can’t you see what’s at stake?"

Outside, Su Qing, who was perched by the window, frowned. ’A man willingly got captured with Cheng Beilin? Does the Cheng Family know about this? And who is this man?’

As she pondered, Su Qing held her breath and focused, listening even more intently to the conversation inside.

"Whoa, Brother Song, I’m not finished! Let me finish before you get mad," Brother Qi said hastily.

"Talk. If you can’t give me a good explanation today, I’ll break you." With a SLAM, Brother Song slapped a gun onto the table, scowling at Brother Qi.

Brother Qi wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and, not daring to delay, spilled everything in a rush. "It’s like this—that pretty boy is in love with the Cheng Family girl. That’s why he came forward when he saw her get captured. Later, you know how our boys are... they saw how pretty she was and wanted to... have some fun. But that pretty boy risked his life to stop them from touching her."

"You know our guys, they’ve got short fuses. They beat the pretty boy up and said something like they’d send them both to the lab later to be used as test subjects for drugs. When the pretty boy heard that, he immediately said he was a doctor, skilled in both Western and Chinese medicine, and that he could help with the research. The only condition was that they weren’t allowed to touch the Cheng Family girl."

"And you know the situation at our lab—we’re short on test subjects, and we’re short on researchers, too. On top of that, this pretty boy knows Chinese medicine. I figured he could be useful. Besides, with our guys around, he can’t escape or contact anyone, so I agreed."

After listening, Brother Song frowned. "Is this guy reliable?"

"I don’t think it’s a problem," Brother Qi said. "He didn’t sneak in on purpose. He just happened to see the Cheng girl get captured and came forward on his own. To put it bluntly, he only did it for her. As long as we have her in our grasp, he won’t dare to disobey. With that woman here, the man has no choice but to do as we say."

"Mm," Brother Song said. "In that case, get them over there at once. The longer we wait, the more things could go wrong. They already know about the lab, and most of Xiangcheng’s police force is out searching. It’ll be a huge problem if they find the Cheng girl. Just send them both."

"But..." Brother Qi started to say.

"But nothing," Brother Song cut in. "If the client wants to see the results for the Cheng girl, just record a video for them later."

"Ah, Brother Song, you always have the best ideas!" Hearing this, Brother Qi grinned. "I was getting stuck on the details. One word from you and it’s all clear now."

’That’s right,’ he thought. ’As long as the client sees the result, what does it matter where the person is?’

"Hmph. Cut the flattery and get this done cleanly. Or you’ll have hell to pay," Brother Song snorted.

"Don’t worry, Brother Song. I’ll handle it perfectly. I’ll send those two over tonight," Brother Qi said quickly.

"Good. Go on, then. Let me know when it’s done."

"Yes, sir."

Hearing Brother Qi leave the room, Su Qing narrowed her eyes. ’Someone came to mind... but I should probably go and confirm it myself.’

Su Qing landed silently on the ground. Under the cover of darkness, she slipped out of the villa’s courtyard. When she saw Brother Qi get into a car, she discreetly controlled a vine to cling to the vehicle’s undercarriage while she followed from a distance.

Now that Su Qing’s Wood Ability had reached the Fourth Rank, her speed was much greater than that of an ordinary person. Coupled with the fact that the car wasn’t moving too fast, and that she could use the perspective of plants to track its direction, Su Qing had no trouble keeping up.

A little over half an hour later, Su Qing arrived at a small fishing village in the northern part of Xiangcheng.

The fishing village was extremely remote and looked somewhat desolate. Su Qing surveyed her surroundings and frowned. ’I wonder why the Xiangcheng police haven’t searched this place.’

’Or maybe they did, and just didn’t find anything?’

Brother Qi’s car was parked in an empty lot next to the village. Not knowing where the lab was, Su Qing hid near the car and used the surrounding plants to observe the scene in the village.

Soon, she saw Brother Qi and several of his men emerge from an inconspicuous little house, dragging a man and a woman with them. The two captives struggled ceaselessly. Their mouths must have been gagged, as they couldn’t speak, only letting out muffled whimpers of protest.

Brother Qi scowled and barked, "Both of you, quiet down! Or I won’t be so gentle."

As he spoke, Brother Hu slapped the man across the face. Seeing this, the woman couldn’t help but start crying.

Su Qing narrowed her eyes, looking at the man who had been slapped.

’Well, I’ll be damned,’ she thought. ’I was right. It’s Du Chaoran!’
