Chapter 712: Chapter 712: Lazing Around
"So, what should we do today? Got anything particular in mind, Kai?" Aria asked me, as she played with my ear absentmindedly.
"Well, I’d like to just take it easy for the day. I do need to have a conversation with Baraqiel, might as well get it over with as soon as possible. Other than that, a whole lot of nothing," I responded with a shrug.
"Sounds good to me, I could do with a whole lot of nothing for the foreseeable future. Plus, we have a good reason to stay indoors for a while, we need to get used to our new place," She replied with a lazy grin.
"Not sure that’s a good reason, but you do have a point. Honestly, even though this place is bigger, it still kinda bums me out that we lost our old apartments. Thinking that we’ll never be in or even see those places again is a bit depressing," I sighed wistfully.
Our new place is definitely an upgrade, but I was content with our previous living situation. Well, it’s fine, I probably won’t even think about it once I’m used to this new place.
The house has a decent-sized front and back yard, surrounded by walls with an electric fence on top. The front gate is linked to Aria’s and my I-Watches, opening into the front yard.
There’s a stone footpath leading to the front door from the gate, with a grassy lawn around the path and empty flowerbeds along the edges of the walls.
Neither of us have ever grown plants before, but we might as well try to grow some easy options instead of just leaving the flowerbeds bare.
Anyway, the front door opens into a short corridor that leads to a large living room. Next to the end of the corridor is a door that leads into the kitchen, which is pretty wide and spacious.
The living room is pretty big too, though it’s empty at the moment. We don’t really have a whole lot of furniture yet, besides the essentials. We plan to go shopping to fill out the house eventually, but we’re taking it easy for now.
We’ve also got four rooms and a basement. We’re only really using the master bedroom right now, but I plan to convert one of the other rooms into a rec room like I did in my old place.
We can turn the other two rooms into bedrooms, we can use them for guests or just for the Apostles to chill in whenever I let them out. As for the basement, it’s a specialized space that’s heavily reinforced, enough to withstand even X-Aces training.
It’s much bigger than the training room at my old place, but ideally, we won’t have to use it much other than the occasional training session to keep our abilities sharp.
Oh, and we’ve also got a rooftop, could be a good spot to host hangouts with the others, maybe have a barbecue or something up there. And, like our old apartments, this place is fitted with self-cleaning tech, a more advanced model than what we used to have, so we don’t have to worry about cleaning the place ourselves.
So, yeah, that about sums up the layout of our new home. It’s honestly a bit more space than we really need, but hey, better too much than too little, right?
"I still can’t believe all our old stuff was sold off, that really sucks. I mean, I get it, we disappeared for a whole year, can’t blame them for writing us off as dead. Even so...I really liked our old furniture and stuff," Grumbled Aria, rolling over me with a huff.
"Well, we can buy the same things again. Let’s focus on one room or spot at a time, let’s take it nice and slow. We have no reason to rush, so let’s take our time and decorate each part of the house exactly the way we want. Might be fun," I suggested with a smile, as I playfully poked her cheek.
"Yeah, I guess. A part of me can’t help but wonder if we really need to, though. I mean, we’ve got the Pocket Dimension, a space we can freely manage. We can change the layout, expand it, create new sections...do we even need a house?" She mused thoughtfully.
"I mean, we don’t need to isolate ourselves at this point. No one can contact us while we’re in there, after all. But, who knows, maybe in a few decades or centuries, the world might go to shit. If that happens and we want out, we can retreat to the Pocket Dimension for a while and wait things out," I replied with a wry smile.
"Well, that’s bleak. You really think something will happen?" She asked me.
"Going off human history, yeah. But I doubt we need to worry too much for the foreseeable future. The Monsters may be gone, but the Mutants have effectively taken their place now. Which means, humanity still has a common threat to unite them.
It’d certainly be nice if this united peace lasts indefinitely, with the world government in Concord, along with the HUC, keeping all eight Sanctuaries united. But realistically, things are bound to change at some point or another. All we can really do is hope that any changes that happen are changes for the better," I remarked with a grimace.
"Yeah...well, like you said, we probably aren’t going to have to worry about that anytime soon, so let’s not agonize over it now. The Mutant threat is relatively under control and the world has more or less recovered from the aftermath of the final battle against the Monsters at this point, so we should enjoy this peace we worked so hard for," She nodded, resting her head on my arm as she snuggled up to me.
"No objections here. Speaking of the Mutants, I gotta say, I’m pretty curious to see what they’re like. Once we’ve had our fill of lazing around, we should take on a Quest or two to hunt Mutants," I suggested thoughtfully, as I gently stroked her hair.
"Sure, I’m down for that. It’ll be good to get active every now and then," She smiled, giving me a kiss on the cheek.
