Chapter 711: Chapter 711: We Have Our Lives Back
"Whew, I’m beat! Finally, we can just relax and take it easy," I sighed, as I flopped onto the bed and stretched my arms out.
"At least you only had to go through this once. This is my second time around...suddenly, I have a lot more sympathy for all the protagonists of the time traveling anime and shows I’ve seen. It really sucks, living through the same period of time a second time," Groaned Aria, collapsing onto the bed face first next to me, before muttering, "Well, I guess I shouldn’t complain too much. You definitely had it a hell of a lot worse than I did."
It’s been a week since we cleared the trial, today’s the 27th of March, 2172. And it’s been a real hectic week. After we returned from the other world and the Union staff showed up, the five of us were put up in a hotel.
There, I headed into the Pocket Dimension to update mom about the situation. After discussing it, we agreed that she should remain in there until everything was settled. I maxed out the time dilation, so only a few minutes have passed for her.
I also briefly spoke to Baraqiel, and he too agreed to stay put in the Pocket Dimension for the time being. He also suggested giving him the same backstory as mom, specifically to say that he’s also a former human who was reincarnated in that world. I agreed to it, since it’d be the easiest way to explain why he’s with us.
The next day, the Union questioned us thoroughly, Aria and Jaden were especially irritated by that, since they already experienced it in their fake memories. We explained what happened, how we were summoned to the other world and then managed to make our way back here.
I also told them about mom and Baraqiel, claiming that both are humans who were reincarnated as different races in that other world. I included the fact that one of them is my mother, didn’t see any reason to lie about that...especially with the resemblance between us.
After that, I was ready to go back home, but there was a problem. Six months after we disappeared, the HUC decided to declare us dead.
As a result, Aria’s and my places were resold. Same goes for the others, they all owned their own places too, but not anymore. Which left all of us effectively homeless.
So, that sucked.
But the HUC was quick to rectify the problem, our I-Watches were reactivated and our Credit balances restored. They also gave us a wide variety of options for new residences to choose from.
Aria and I decided to go for a house located in a compound with high security, most of the other residents in the compound are high-ranked Hunters and celebrities, since the tight security means there’s little to no chance of getting swarmed by fans.
Ciel, Rex and Cleo moved to the same compound too, and mom and Baraqiel were also set up in residences there. Jaden was a bit bummed about being the odd one out, and considered moving to Sanctuary Theta.
But the HUC practically begged him to reconsider. The vast majority of the world’s X-Aces are based in Theta right now, the HUC has even been trying to convince the rest of us to move to some of the other Sanctuaries, in order to more evenly spread out our collective firepower.
Aria and I have no intention of moving, mom wants to live close to me, and Ciel and Cleo aren’t particularly keen on moving either. Baraqiel hasn’t objected to it, but he’s requested to be allowed to live in Sanctuary Theta for a while, since he wants me to help him train and make the best use of his power and abilities.
Well, there’s Alkimia who lives in Sanctuary Delta, but she’s still completely unknown to the general public. We did get in touch with her, and she’s decided to lay low for now, at least until the situation with Leto is dealt with.
She plans to enroll at an Academy once she’s eligible, which’ll be at next year’s intake, and then gradually reveal her true power. So, basically what Cleo and I each did.
The difference is that Alkimia has already maxed out her power, so she’s probably going to have a tougher time flying under the radar. Well, it’s not like there are any stakes around it, so it’s fine.
And speaking of Leto, he’s currently a wanted criminal on the run. There hasn’t been any sign of him in the week since reality was returned to normal, but it’s only a matter of time. Given how spiteful and full of hatred he is, he isn’t going to stay in hiding forever.
All we know for now is that he’s in Sanctuary Alpha, where Jaden lives. I already gave Jaden a rundown of Leto’s abilities, and to keep his distance if he runs into him.
Aria and I are the only ones Leto can’t kill with his Touch of Death Skill. Well, the only humans, anyway...it won’t work on Baraqiel either. Oh, and Cleo should be able to counter Touch of Death once, thanks to the Phoenix Resurrection.
Touch of Death has a twenty-four hour cooldown after being used, so the four of us are the only ones he can’t kill with it. Well, technically, Cleo has to legitimately die for Phoenix Resurrection to activate, so he can kill her...it just won’t stick the first time.
Anyway, we just got done with a long press conference, the reporters bombarded us with an endless streak of questions. It was pretty rough, but at least we’ve got it over and done with now.
And, of course, Aria and Jaden were experiencing it for the second time. Honestly, with that, they might have had it a tiny bit worse than the rest of us. The trial was stressful, but in the end, we got through it without too much trouble.
So, yeah, that about sums up this last week. It’s been hectic, but at least we have our lives back now. Well, there are some causes for concern, including but not limited to Leto...but I can worry about all that later. For right now, I just want to take it easy and chill for a while.
