Chapter 699: Chapter 699: Lured
"Alright, here we go. <Spirit Fusion, Apostle of Envy: Invidia>," I chanted quietly, as the entrance to Sanctuary Alpha opened up, a couple of vehicles driving out.
As I activated Spirit Fusion with Invidia, I used Stealth to turn myself invisible, before swiftly and silently making my way towards the entrance. I reached it right as the vehicles exited, slipping in before the entrance could close back up.
Okay, I’m in, now to-...huh?
The instant I entered the Sanctuary and the entrance closed up behind me, a loud, deafening blaring sound rang out. An alarm? Shit, did they install sensors at the entrance?!
Well, that’s not good...looks like we’ve been lured into a trap.
My eyes then widened in alarm as I spotted a massive cloak of golden energy spreading out across the Sanctuary...is that the barrier cast by Ascent? But it’s so-...
No, there’s no time to think! I need to act, fast!
I glanced around before I shot towards a nearby alley, slipping past dozens of panicking passersby. As I zipped into the alley, I quickly opened up a portal into the Pocket Dimension, the expanding golden barrier almost fully engulfing the Sanctuary.
Ai!
<I’ve already alerted them>
Right on cue, Cleo, Ciel, Leto and Alkimia emerged from the portal, which began flickering as they exited the Pocket Dimension. Alkimia stepped out right as the golden barrier finished forming, my portal abruptly disappearing.
"What’s going on?" Frowned Ciel, as she glanced up at the barrier.
"Looks like they were expecting us. And it seems the Gods gave the remaining Angels an upgrade to their barrier," I surmised with a grimace.
"Shit, what the fuck are we supposed to do now?! This wasn’t the plan!" Snapped Leto, looking around frantically.
"Hm? Hey, several presences just appeared nearby, and I recognize some of them, they’re-...!" Began Cleo in alarm.
But she was cut off as a massive, roaring blast of flames suddenly came shooting into the alley from above. The five of us were forced to scatter to evade the attack, a stifling burst of heat erupting as the flames collided against the ground with immense force.
I rushed out of the alley as several pressurized blasts of water came barreling down towards me, loud crashes ringing out as the blasts slammed onto the ground, bits of concrete flying out upon impact.
Damn it, this is bad, I’ve been separated from the others! I need to-...!
Suddenly, large pillars of swirling water burst out around me, swelling and expanding sharply. I sprang back as a figure came swooping down towards me, narrowly evading the attack before crossing my arms in front of myself as the figure unleashed a concentrated blast of water at me.
I grimaced as the blast collided against my forearms with immense force, fracturing my bones as I got sent hurtling back through the air. I gritted my teeth and unleashed a pressurized burst of Negative Energy behind myself, canceling out the momentum.
My feet skidded back slightly as they hit the ground, as I lifted my gaze towards my assailant...it’s one of the Angels, but...it’s the one that’s supposed to be in Sanctuary Theta.
As I drew out Desecrator, my eyes widened as another pair of figures appeared. I recognized them both, the pair very much familiar to me...one was Isla, and the other...was Aria.
Isla promptly disappeared as she teleported away, my chest tightening as I met Aria’s gaze, a cold look in her eyes. I felt a surge of rage and fury as I turned my attention to the Angel, who then chanted with a snap of her fingers...
"<Ascent>."
The water pillars surrounding me abruptly vanished as a golden, dome-shaped barrier expanded around the Angel, spreading out across the space and trapping me.
"Did you really think the same strategy would work again? We were ready for you mort-...ahem, I mean, criminals...-this time. The two of us will eliminate you, the biggest threat. And as we speak, Ciel Campbell and Cleo Nova are in the same predicament that you’re in," The Angel greeted me tauntingly.
I see, the other Angel and Jaden must have trapped those two with them. Damn it, we needed to fight each of the Angels together, this is going to be seriously tough:

He had spiky hair with a deep, fiery glow to it, the air around it shimmering intensely. His eyes were of a similar hue. He had a slightly dark complexion, with a strong, sturdy build.
He was shirtless, with dark red trousers and a black waist-cape, along with black boots. And, of course, he had a glowing golden halo and a pair of white-feathered wings.
"This should be fun, I haven’t had a real challenge since we cleared the Final Dungeon. It’s a shame that such powerful individuals opted to become terrorists...but on the bright side, I don’t need to hold back," Spoke up Jaden, cracking his knuckles.
And to make matters worse, he’s here too. Our plans have been completely derailed, this couldn’t have turned out worse. And if Jaden’s here, that probably means Ariella is with the Angel who’s fighting Kai.
"Hey, I’m going to need you to keep the Angel busy. I’ll try to incapacitate Jaden in the meantime," I said to Ciel, lowering my voice.
"Got it. Try not to take too long, though. I’m not sure how long I can hold my own against that thing," She responded with a wry smile.
