Chapter 2324: Not just one
"Do you know what’s happened recently?"
I was surprised to find that someone that I knew came to find me.
Normally, this wouldn’t have happened since the ones that arranged for this knew not to do such a thing.
But since this was the Holy Empire, things were a bit different.
Though I knew that they must have had a good reason if they broke this cover. They knew that what I was doing was something important and they wouldn’t break the cover if they didn’t think it was important enough.
Only I had no idea what they were talking about since I had been here the entire time.
"The statue speaking, it’s your doing, isn’t it?"
I was surprised that they would bring up something like this since it was a small and isolated matter. But then again, the one that had been leading this was a holy knight and it seemed normal that they would report this matter up.
Even so, it seemed surprising that they would care so much that they would do something like this.
"It’s just one statue isn’t it?" That was all that I could say in my defense, but I could see that it didn’t work.
However, it seemed like this was because all of them had strange looks on their faces. All of these were strange looks that I just couldn’t understand at all.
"One statue? What do you mean by one statue?"
A confused look appeared on my face when I heard this.
After all, I had really only made a connection with one of the statues that I could sense. It wasn’t as if I had focused on any of the other connections that had been there.
However, I could hear that there was something off about their tone...
"That’s right, I only focused on one of the statues to change their perceptions a bit. It isn’t as if it was that big of a deal."
Once again, I denied it to try and smooth this over.
Only when I did this, all of them suddenly shook their heads and gave sighs.
I didn’t know what it was that they were feeling, but I could understand the general gist.
In fact, they looked like the prime minister when I messed things up and they had to clean up my mess.
"How big could it have been?" I couldn’t help thinking to myself.
It didn’t seem like they were going to tell me at first, but then one of them suddenly said, "It was all of them."
"Huh?"
I didn’t understand what he was saying at first, but that was more because I didn’t want to believe what he was saying. After all, if what he said was true, then it really might have been a big mess.
"What do you mean by all of them?" I insisted in the end since I knew that I had only made a connection to one of the statues.
Seeing that I was insisting on this, it almost looked like they were slowly realizing something. However, I didn’t actually like the way that they looked at me.
In the first place, they were the religious type that really were fanatical about the things that they worshipped.
I already knew that they had other plans for me when they put the statue of me inside of the God of Creation’s temple. But now it seemed like they were thinking that I was much bigger than they thought.
After another moment of silence, the one that spoke earlier said, "All of the statues that had been created for secret worship spoke at the same time. This was something that was reported to us not that long ago. Even at the main temple, we heard the statue speaking."
The first thing that I picked out from these words was that they were involved in the creation of these secret churches to a certain extent. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have received notice about the statues this quickly.
But the more important thing was that they wouldn’t lie about the fact that the statues had all spoken at the same time.
"Does that mean that just like how they are connected to me, all of the statues are connected to each other as well?"
If that was the case, then this really was something that was cumbersome...
But thinking about it, it wasn’t as if every oracle that the gods gave was something that every single one of their followers heard. If that happened, then would there still be a need for people like the pope and the higher ups of each religion?
So there had to be something about the statues that I wasn’t getting since I was still new to all of this.
The only thing that I could do was take this as a learning moment...
"What do you want me to do about it?" I asked in the end.
At this point, it didn’t matter anymore since it had already happened.
Which was why I determined that there was no need for me to act like I wanted to do something to fix this. I knew that the reason that they came to see me was because they had already thought of a way to fix this.
The reason that they came to see me was because they wanted to figure something out.
It was also why they had asked everything in such a roundabout manner.
"We just wanted to confirm something."
I was surprised to hear this before looking at them with a strange look, trying to figure out what they meant by this. But I wasn’t able to figure it out with just the looks on their faces.
In the end, the same person said, "Now that we’ve confirmed this, we can give you our congratulations."
I shook my head and said with a sigh, "It’s not what you think, I’m not there yet."
The look on their faces made it clear that they weren’t thinking the same thing as me.
There really wasn’t anything that I could do about this.
