Chapter 188: _Otherworlder

"Shit, shit... SHIT!" Ambrose leapt off a piece of collapsing land, boosting himself with blue flames.

The second he got across the ravine to the other side, a thunderous screech boomed behind him, so powerful that it sent him flying forward by tens of meters.

His ears rang like bass speakers were playing inside them. Even his bones were rattled as he collapsed, rolling on the ground until he slammed into a jagged rock formation.

[Time left: 00: 42:16]

"It’s only been eighteen minutes?" He rasped, biting his bottom lip while clutching a hand to his stomach. His ribs seemed like they were caving in already and the blood spilling out of his ears wasn’t even drying off.

No matter what angle he used to look at this situation, he was cooked.

"Stealth." His eyes widened as he pushed himself off the ground. "Aura... how much time do I have left on the last stealth potion I purchased?"

[2 minutes, 11 seconds.]

Two minutes.

It was small, but that was two more minutes where he could survive this.

Just then the beast landed on the ground tens of meters ahead of him. The earth crumbled beneath its talons as cracks spiderwebbed all around it.

Those red orbs locked on Ambrose, its razor-fanged mouth parting slowly.

"NOW." Ambrose vanished from the beast’s view in the next second.

Under the shroud of invisibility, he spun on his heels and made a beeline to another rock formation. Of course, the beast was enraged by his new trick and screamed with agitation.

SCREEEKKK!

The soundwaves shattered rocks into dust and cratered the valley stretching up to where Ambrose was. He jumped, managing to escape the impact in time to reach the next rock formation.

’I can’t keep up with my injuries.’ he thought to himself, hiding behind the rock. ’Aura, is there anything I can use in healing myself?’

[The host has two instant revival beans from past rewards. One of these is enough to instantly heal any wounds, toxins, damage, or even replenish lost aether.]

Ambrose peeked out of the rock formation for a beat. The beast was busy furiously thrashing its snout into the air, as if trying to sniff him out.

Thank the heavens the stealth potion also masked scents.

’If I use one now, I still have one more... but forty minutes to survive that thing. Not to mention I’m not sure if it’s going to be the last thing I face in this prehistoric hell hole.’

In all his encounters with S-Rank beasts... never has he had to actively survive one. This felt massively unfair.

But then again—this system never really has played ’fair’, has it?

’I’ll use a revival bean.’

The second the shimmering green bean appeared on his outstretched palm he didn’t waste a second to swallow it. His body jerked once before every injury—internal and external—healed up instantly.

He felt like he’d just walked into the dimension—well, if you count out the looming dread of being chased by a living force of nature.

Ambrose flexed his fingers slowly, almost afraid to move too much and realise the revival bean’s effects had somehow failed halfway.

But no.

His ribs no longer screamed. The ringing in his ears faded rapidly. Even his depleted aether surged back to life so violently that blue flames flickered around his fingertips by accident.

"Holy shit..." He breathed.

SCREEEEKKKK!

The pterodactyl beast slammed its talons into the valley floor again, shredding apart an entire cliffside while searching for him. Chunks of rock the size of trucks blasted into the air.

Ambrose immediately ducked behind the formation harder.

’Okay, think... think!’ His heart hammered wildly. ’I can’t outrun that thing for forty more minutes.’

Then spatial awareness pulsed.

His expression shifted beneath the black mask.

Wait.

Something was below him.

No—not just one thing.

Multiple signatures.

Ambrose slowly lowered his gaze to the trembling ground beneath his boots. The deeper he focused, the colder his blood turned.

Sleeping beneath layers of earth and rock all around this valley... were monsters.

And they were massive.

[WARNING: Multiple S-Rank lifeforms detected.]

His lips parted. "Multiple?"

Another deafening screech tore through the valley. The beast whipped its head around furiously, its wings blasting away the mist in violent currents.

Then it lunged again, straight toward Ambrose’s hiding place.

"Oh, screw this!" He bolted out from behind the rock formation at full speed.

BOOOOM!

The creature crashed into the formation behind him so hard that the entire thing exploded apart. The shockwave nearly swept Ambrose off his feet.

Still invisible, he sprinted through the valley while his spatial awareness stretched outward desperately.

’There!’

A huge life signature underground to his left.

Ambrose skidded to a halt before thrusting both palms outward. Blue flames erupted violently from his hands, blasting apart the rocky ground ahead.

The explosion echoed throughout the valley, alerting the pterodactyl instantly.

With another maddening screech, it dove directly toward Ambrose’s position.

"Come on..." He gritted out, already turning to flee. "Come on, you ugly Jurassic Park reject—"

BOOOOOOOOM!

The beast slammed into the damaged earth with enough force to cave the entire area inward.

For one second everything stilled.

Then the valley shook.

Not from the pterodactyl this time.

From below.

Ambrose’s eyes widened as gigantic cracks spread across the ground. Something enormous burst upward from beneath the earth—a serpent-like creature covered in black crystal scales.

Its massive jaws snapped open instantly.

SKRRAAAAHHH!

The pterodactyl shrieked back aggressively.

Then both monsters collided.

The impact alone split apart nearby mountainsides.

"Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me." Ambrose stumbled backwards while staring at the absolute nightmare unfolding before him.

The serpent beast wrapped itself around the flying creature midair, dragging it downward through sheer brute force. Meanwhile, the pterodactyl clawed and screeched violently, tearing chunks of crystal flesh apart.

And somehow... The surrounding life signatures beneath the valley were beginning to stir too.

Ambrose felt his stomach drop.

"This place..." He whispered shakily. "This place is filled with S-Rank monsters."

Not only that.

They were territorial.

The second an apex predator crossed into another’s domain, they immediately tried killing each other.

A cold realization settled over him.

This wasn’t merely a dungeon. It was an entire ecosystem.

[Stealth potion effects ending in 10... 9... 8...]

"Fuck me sideways..." He spun around frantically, searching for somewhere else to hide while the battle behind him escalated into pure destruction.

[3... 2... 1...]

The invisibility vanished.

Instantly, several monstrous presences shifted.

Ambrose froze.

Then the black mask suddenly burned against his face.

"ARGH!" He staggered, grabbing it as unbearable heat spread across his skin.

The world around him dulled as the sounds of roaring beasts faded.

And then—a familiar, ancient voice echoed inside his head.

’... Otherworlder.’
