Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Getting the Feel of Shooting

Suddenly, a message caught Willow Yardley’s attention.

[Hailey Miles: Everyone should probably stock up on more wood. The monsters attack the raft, so as long as the raft holds, we won’t get hurt, right?]

’Hailey Miles?’

’She really is worthy of being at the top of my sister’s blacklist. She’s got some good ideas after all.’

[Really? Thanks so much, Hailey! I’m going to buy some wood right now.]

[Damn it, as soon as she said that, all the wood on the trading market is gone. How many years have you all been single? Your hands are too fast! angry_face.jpg]

[Heh, who’s the fool here? People obviously just delisted their own stock.]

[The weapons are sold out, the wood is gone... I just want to know how I’m supposed to survive in half an hour?]

[Doesn’t it say it’s a random spawn? Maybe monsters won’t even show up.]

[Good point. We should be more optimistic. What if the monsters are really weak?]

DRING DRING DRING! The sound of a phone call drew Willow Yardley’s attention. After a moment’s thought, she went over and answered it.

"Huh? Why is it you? Where’s Faye?"

"Hi, brother. Big Sis went into Dungeon 1."

"Now?" Ethan Yardley thought for a moment. "That’s good too. Do you know what Dungeon 1 is like?"

Willow Yardley immediately replied, "Big Sis said it’s just like Dungeon 3, killing zombies. But Dungeon 1 is a solo dungeon, so it’s not a problem for her. She also said she’ll be in the dungeon for three days at most. I’ll have her contact you as soon as she gets back."

"Alright, thanks, Willow."

Ethan Yardley wasn’t worried about his sister’s raft. After all, the system prompt clearly stated that the rafts of players who entered a Dungeon would not be attacked.

Even though Willow Yardley was still on the raft, in his eyes, she was just an appliance that could do chores.

Not quite like the one on his raft. The one on his raft was his dear, lovely grandmother.

Faye Yardley, who was inside the Dungeon, had no idea just how absurd her brother truly was.

’Just how big is this supermarket?!’

Faye Yardley really hadn’t expected to still not be finished after clearing two whole floors. Peering down into the hollow, ring-shaped atrium, she could see densely packed hordes of zombies below.

All the merchandise she touched was contaminated, even the perfectly packaged items.

In the end, Faye Yardley couldn’t even be bothered to look at the goods anymore. They were basically just "decorations" with no practical use.

But a person wasn’t a perpetual motion machine. After clearing two floors in a row, Faye Yardley found a place to hide and take a temporary break.

She didn’t know if it was because her Luck Value was too high, but when she leaned against what was clearly a solid wall behind her, it suddenly cracked open.

She didn’t fall. Her superb reflexes and agility allowed her to flip over, planting a hand on the ground to push herself back to her feet.

Inside was a small, empty space of only about two square meters, but what was inside it made her eyes widen in shock.

’Seriously? Guns and ammunition inside a supermarket? That’s probably something no normal person would ever expect.’

What was even more unexpected was that when she picked up a gun, the system didn’t prompt her that it was contaminated and needed points to be cleansed. This meant they were all usable!

Well, what was there to think about? She immediately swept all the various firearms and bullets from the shelves into her inventory.

’Come to think of it, I haven’t even used the regular Arrows I brought with me. When I go back out, I’ll find a good firing position. The zombies on the first floor will make perfect targets.’

’Now that I’ve restocked with guns and ammo, clearing out all the zombies in this supermarket within two days shouldn’t be a problem.’

’It seems the system doesn’t leave you completely without support in a solo Dungeon. It’s just that good things require a bit of luck to stumble upon, or must be found through a meticulous, inch-by-inch search.’

’Perhaps this is what Logan Langdon was hiding.’

She took a wrap from her inventory, ate it quickly, drank a little water, and wiped her mouth casually before poking her head out. After looking left and right, she stepped out.

Swapping the longsword in her hands for her Longbow, she found a corner between a wall and a pillar. She peered down, took out an Arrow, nocked it, and drew the bow. The string was quickly pulled taut. With her Basic Shooting Skills, Faye Yardley was confident she could become a master archer.

SWOOSH!

The released arrow tore through the air and plunged directly into a zombie’s eye. The zombie quickly fell, and she heard the notification for an increase in points.

The sudden collapse of one zombie triggered a commotion among the surrounding ones.

Arrow after arrow rained down, nearly forming a storm of shafts that took out one zombie after another.

But being completely focused on shooting didn’t mean Faye Yardley was oblivious to her own surroundings.

As a zombie snuck up on her, Faye Yardley rolled to the right to dodge its attack, dropping to one knee and instantly loosing an arrow at the zombie’s eye.

However, the Arrow only hit the zombie’s head, failing to pierce its eye.

Faye Yardley didn’t dwell on it. In the instant she sprang back to her feet, the Longbow in her hands was once again replaced by her somewhat famous longsword. She charged straight at the zombie, and the force of her momentum combined with her own Strength diagonally cleaved the zombie’s head and half of its body in two.

’As expected, the longsword still feels more natural to use.’

But Faye Yardley didn’t let it bother her. She moved to a new spot and continued shooting with her Longbow and Arrows.

Whenever a few zombies got close enough to interfere, she would switch weapons to deal with them before going back to her Longbow.

She continued like this until all one hundred of her regular Arrows were used up.

The zombies below had long since been agitated into a frenzy. Many were already heading upstairs, some via the long-stopped escalators, others climbing up with their hands and feet.

No matter what, Faye Yardley wasn’t afraid. She even felt the urge to charge right into the zombie horde and start slaughtering them.

Fortunately, an urge was just an urge. Her reason still held!

Firearms. Before this, Faye Yardley had only ever handled toy guns and the air guns at a carnival.

So even with the basic memories instilled by the system, she still needed to fumble around a bit to figure out how to use them properly.

BANG!

She fired a shot, but it went completely wide. It missed the intended zombie entirely, but it did manage to headshot another one two places away.

Faye Yardley frowned slightly. Although she knew using a Longbow was completely different from using a gun, she hadn’t expected her aim to be that bad.

’Good thing I don’t need pinpoint accuracy right now. I’ll just shoot to get a feel for it. There are plenty of zombies, anyway. If I miss one, I’ll probably hit another. It’s not a waste of bullets.’

As expected, combat was the best form of practice. Especially on a life-or-death battlefield, a person’s potential would always be endlessly stimulated.

After emptying two magazines, Faye Yardley’s feel for the weapon improved steadily. Plus, the handgun was small and much more convenient to hold than the Longbow.

She wasn’t a member of the Elven Race with an abnormal fondness for bows and arrows. She was a complete pragmatist; whatever was more convenient to use was what she preferred.

In her hands now, the pistol was clearly more suitable for close-range shooting than the Longbow.

The shelves and cabinets on the second floor suffered damage for the umpteenth time, many of them shattering into splinters.

After one of the cashier counters toppled over, a pile of fingernail-sized spheres instantly rolled out.

Steel balls!

Faye Yardley’s eyes instantly lit up.
