Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Each is Different
Many people, like Henry Lewis, had directly encountered the Otherkin.
Of course, there were also those who were eager for an encounter but never got the chance, no matter how they waited.
At this moment, Eamon was in the cultivation room tending to his plants. He hadn’t forgotten his primary duty. If he failed to complete it, he would be exiled.
Willow Yardley looked up at the sun, which was once again high in the sky. ’It’s already noon on the second day,’ she thought. ’Isn’t my sister’s Dungeon run over yet?’
However, she wasn’t worried that Faye was in any mortal danger. If anything happened to Faye Yardley, she would be able to sense it.
Her life was bound to Faye’s. Faye Yardley was somewhat aware of this, though not entirely clear on the details. If she died, Willow Yardley would also disappear. This was the source of her absolute loyalty.
The Merfolk circling her raft was so persistent. Willow Yardley began to consider the possibility of simply using the Arrow Tower to kill it.
[The conditions for terminating the employment contract have been met. Renew?]
Faye Yardley looked at Chloe Hughes, then offered her hand with a smile. "It was a pleasure working with you! Are you all leaving now, or would you be interested in teaming up again? I can offer payment this time."
Chloe Hughes glanced at her fair hand, shook it briefly, and then shook her head. "No thanks. We have other things to take care of. Let’s part ways here."
"Well then, Miss Hughes, I hope we’ll meet again."
"Goodbye."
Only when their group was completely out of sight did Faye Yardley allow her taut nerves to relax a little.
Caleb Colby collapsed onto the ground, wiping sweat from his brow. "Two days and one night with no sleep... I’m fucking exhausted."
Zachary Pierce pointed behind them. "Get up. Another group of zombies is heading this way."
"Shit, does it ever end? I’m going to turn every last one of these bastards into points."
Gavin Donovan tightened his grip on his long spear, his entire body buzzing with excitement, before he charged straight toward the zombies.
Faye Yardley watched his retreating back with a small smile. ’I need to work even harder, be even more determined,’ she thought. ’One day, I’ll surpass all of them and become the one standing at the very top!’
As this conviction deepened within her, her heart began to beat with even more force.
"Mr. Colby, you should rest. Donovan and I can handle a small group like this." As she spoke, Faye Yardley moved to confront the approaching zombies head-on.
"Shit, who are you looking down on? I..."
Caleb Colby started to get up, but Zachary Pierce pressed his shoulder down with one hand. "Rotate."
Faye Yardley’s progress was plain for them to see.
From a young girl who knew nothing to someone who could now take on multiple zombies at once, her rapid improvement filled them with a sense of urgency.
’There’s no way we can let a young girl surpass us, right?!’
How else could they maintain the pride they’d built over many years of service?
It also made them realize just how drastically different this world was from the one they knew. A young girl with no foundation could catch up to and even surpass them in a short amount of time. If they didn’t change their mindset, they would truly be eliminated by The Survival World.
Bonnie Callahan looked at the skeleton monster outside her raft, which seemed to be on the verge of drowning. She was torn, wondering whether she should save it.
In the end, she tossed a piece of wood over to it. "Hey, grab onto this wood!"
"COUGH, COUGH COUGH~"
Seeing the skeleton cough up seawater, Bonnie Callahan felt that this world was becoming so surreal she couldn’t possibly understand it.
After coughing for a while, the skeleton, most of its body hanging onto the piece of wood, lifted its head, grinned at Bonnie Callahan, and said, "Thanks, little miss. I almost drowned."
The skeleton held onto the wood with one hand while the other fumbled around on its bare bones. It finally found a bracelet and tossed it onto the raft. "Take this as a reward for your kindness in saving me."
Bonnie Callahan went to pick it up and discovered it was a bracelet that gave Constitution +1. ’Huh? So some Otherkin actually come bearing gifts?’
Judging by the public channel, she had thought all Otherkin were here to kill them.
"Thank you... um..." In the end, Bonnie Callahan couldn’t bring herself to invite him onto her raft. However, after thinking for a moment, she traded for a small wooden boat, placed it in the water outside her raft, and gave it a push toward him. "This little boat is for you."
"Yo ho ho ho... A truly kind little miss. In that case, I’ll help you solve another problem." The skeleton climbed into the small boat. Bonnie didn’t know how he did it, but the water around her raft quickly turned red as the massive corpse of a shark bobbed to the surface.
He then stood up in the small boat, gave a light stomp with his foot, and the vessel shot off like an arrow loosed from a bow.
Leaving a stunned Bonnie Callahan in its wake.
She used her fishing rod to pull the shark’s corpse closer, and the system prompted that it could be dismantled.
’The Otherkin... they don’t seem so scary after all.’
It could only be said that everyone’s experience was completely different.
Even in the same stretch of ocean, encountering the very same Otherkin could result in vastly different treatment.
Logan Langdon could certainly attest to that.
After all, he never expected that a creature like a Fox Spirit could actually be real. If it weren’t for her long tail, he would have mistaken her for a beautiful, mature woman.
Tyson Landon was also frustrated. He had clearly been the one to meet the beautiful woman first, but she had only glared and scowled at him. For Logan Langdon, however, she was all smiles and pleasant conversation. She even chose to stay on Logan’s raft, helped him kill a corrupted Sea Monster, and only took the Energy Stones, leaving the rest for Logan.
"Tyson, why don’t you head back to your raft for now?" Logan Langdon said. He felt he could have a more... in-depth conversation with Lynn Hughes, and Tyson’s presence was getting in the way.
SWOOSH~
The Crossbow Arrow shot straight into the zombie’s eye socket. As the last zombie fell, Faye Yardley let out a small sigh of relief.
"Mr. Pierce, we’ve pretty much cleared out the zombies in this area. Should we rest for a bit before looking for the next wave, or just trade for our items and head back now?"
Zachary Pierce replied rationally, "We’ve already been in this Dungeon for two nights. Even if we find another wave, we might not have enough time to kill them all. Let’s just trade for our items and go back."
"System, open the Point Shop."
Gavin Donovan ran over eagerly. "Boss, are you selling this long spear? I’ll give you all my points for it. If that’s not enough, I’ll make up the difference next time."
Faye Yardley glanced at the long spear and nodded. "Alright. How many points do you have right now?"
"21,421."
"Transfer an even 20,000 to me. Use the rest to trade for some basic materials, food, and get a small water purifier."
"Thank you, Boss!" Gavin Donovan gave a deep bow; he didn’t know how else to express his gratitude. "If you need anything in the future, just call on me."
Faye Yardley hummed in acknowledgment and looked at her points: 1,404,000 (Retained Points) + 20,000 + 16,714.
She searched the shop. The only item related to server merging was the Forced Merger Card. It seemed that for a nationwide merger, she would have to wait for the system to update on its own.
"Mr. Pierce, what do you guys need?" Faye Yardley asked again. "You should just tell me. I have an amount of points you wouldn’t even imagine."
"In that case, could you help us trade for a Forced Merger Card?"
No matter what world he was in, he firmly believed there was strength in numbers.
