Chapter 1039: RULE CHANGE
TSK.
Neoma was annoyed that she didn’t have a teleportation skill.
According to Ruto, I was deprived of that skill in this timeline because I abused the hell out of it in my first life. Apparently, I used my teleportation skill to visit the Upper World as if it were my home.
Hence, she had no choice but to...
"Why did you summon me again, Neoma Roseheart de Moonasterio?" William asked, obviously irritated upon seeing her. "Didn’t I tell you that I’m busy training the Soul Beasts? I thought our conversation was over the other night—"
"I need to go to the Royal Mage Tower ASAP," Neoma said, cutting off William. "So, go and open a portal for me."
"Excuse me?"
"You’re excused. Now, open a portal that leads to the Royal Mage Tower."
William’s face turned red with anger while looking at Neoma.
"The more you stall, the longer you’ll see my face," Neoma said, crossing her arms over her chest. "If you walk out, I’ll just summon you again and again."
William let out a frustrated sigh, and then he snapped his fingers.
Just like that, a portal that looked like a door with waves inside appeared in front of them.
"That portal will lead you straight to the Royal Mage Tower," William said, scoffing. "Is that all you needed from me?"
"No," Neoma said, and then she carefully placed the injured Mochi in William’s arms. "Please bring Mochi to my Mama Boss. I don’t have the power to heal Spirits."
The only way she knew how to heal Spirits was by giving them a part of her life force.
But that would upset my loved ones, even Mochi herself.
Hence, the answer was to bring the Wind Spirit to Mama Boss.
Thankfully, it was a job that William didn’t complain about.
The Grand Spirit’s frown deepened, but he hugged Mochi closer to his chest.
Anything to have a reason to talk to Mama Boss, huh? What a simp.
"Thank you," Neoma said to William, who just scoffed. And then she turned to Lewis. "Let’s go, ’son.’"
Lewis nodded politely. "Yes, Princess Neoma."
Huh?
Neoma was shocked when Lewis didn’t say his catchphrase, ’I’m not your son.’
Has he finally accepted that I’m his mother?

"YOUR IMPERIAL MAJAESTY, the Royal Mage Tower is under attack."
Haaah.
Nero lifted his head and saw Melvin Luchessi’s pale face while giving a report to him.
"The Royal Mages are currently fighting the attackers, but they’ve sent a message— asking for assistance," Melvin Luchessi continued. "Should we send Lucien Attewell?"
Lucien Attewell was a runaway Royal Mage.
But since Lucien Attewell already belonged to Nero’s Order, the Royal Mages wouldn’t be able to force the kid to return to their side anymore.
"I believe Lucien Attewell is enough reinforcement," Melvin Luchessi said when Nero kept his mouth shut. "According to the report that we received, two of Princess Neoma’s children— er, knights are currently in the Royal Mage Tower."
"You should have started with that," Nero scolded Melvin Luchessi, almost growling at the Imperial Chamberlain, who flinched after getting nagged. "If Neoma’s children are there, then I’m sure she’ll rescue them herself."
"And that’s why I said Lucien Attewell is enough reinforcement from us, sire."
Smart bastard.
"And please don’t say that you’re going there yourself, sire," Melvin Luchessi said in a pleading voice. "You have an important matter you have to attend to right now. The guests that we’ve invited when we were choosing a husband for Princess Neoma have left the Imperial Palace already. Most of them have already returned to their countries and kingdoms, but some are still left in the Imperial Capital. There are a few of them asking for your audience. We can’t ignore the royal family of our allied nations."
"I have no intention of ignoring them. But I don’t have time to meet all of them either," Nero said, tapping his fingertips on the table lightly. "Melvin, sort them out and only send me the guests who possess abilities or treasures related to Darkness attribute. You’re smart enough to figure out how to do that, right?"
"Can I resign—"
"No," Nero said bluntly, waving his hand dismissively. "Go and send Lucien Attewell first to the Royal Mage Tower. Tell him I’ll kill him myself if Neoma gets so much as a scratch."
"We should prioritize saving the mages since Princess Neoma is the strongest... never mind. I’ll do as you say, Your Imperial Majesty," Melvin said, sighing in defeat. And then he started leaving the office while mumbling to himself. "Seriously, I want to quit..."
Nero just scoffed.
Funny guy.

"YOUR MAJESTIES, you called for me?" Hanna asked the former emperor and empress politely. "I’m here now."
Yes, her almost in-laws summoned her to the empress’s palace.
Neoma destroyed that building before, but the renovations had already been completed. Hence, the former emperor and empress were using that palace as their residence.
Moreover, Nero changed the name from Larissa Palace to Roxana Palace.
"Hanna, thank you for coming," Lady Mona Roseheart said, smiling. "I’m sorry we called you here on such short notice."
"It’s alright, Your Majesty," Hanna said, smiling at the former empress. "Can I help you with anything?"
"Yes. And I’ll get straight to the point. Hanna, we caught a minor god."
Hmm?
"And we want you to check if that minor god possesses Darkness attribute. Or any kind of Darkness within," Lady Mona Roseheart said in a serious tone. "Of course, Nikolai and I have already tried several ways to ’dissect’ the minor god."
Oh.
That sounded scary, so Hanna didn’t dare ask for details.
’Dissecting’ a minor god, huh?
Neoma is truly their daughter.
"We didn’t find anything suspicious, but I can’t shake off the feeling that we’re missing out on something important," Lady Mona Roseheart continued, her tone starting to sound worried, and then she pointed at the former emperor, who was just sipping his tea quietly. "Nikolai has Quinzel blood in him, but he has never resonated with what little Darkness attribute he has. Hence, he couldn’t detect if there is Darkness within the minor god that we caught. So, can you take a look and check? You have a good command of your Darkness attribute, Hanna."
Ah, so that was her job for today.
"I’ll do my best, Your Majesty."
"Thank you, Hanna."
The former Emperor Nikolai de Moonasterio then got up from his seat while looking at Hanna. "I’ll accompany you," he said indifferently. "I know that you’re capable of protecting yourself, but Neoma will kill me if get so much as a scratch while doing us a favor. So, don’t misunderstand. This isn’t me looking down on you, Hanna Quinzel."
Aww.
The emperor who looked down on his daughter in the past had completely disappeared now.
All I see now is a doting husband and father to his family.
That didn’t mean the former Emperor Nikolai de Moonasterio had suddenly turned into a decent person, but he had become humane now.
All thanks to Neoma.
Hanna smiled at that thought, and then she politely nodded at her almost father-in-law. "I understand, Your Majesty."

RED EYES of varying sizes everywhere.
Neoma scoffed at the minor gods that were terrorizing the Royal Mage Tower.
As soon as they arrived there, she already noticed the contaminated air.
Hence, she quickly covered Lewis with her barrier.
She didn’t need one for herself because polluted air like this was like a snack to her.
How should I deal with these annoying gods?
Tteokbokki was still unstable, so she didn’t summon her Soul Beast.
She didn’t think of summoning Kingston— her Elemental Guardian— either.
After all, only Neoma could kill gods.
Hence, she opened her hand at the same Skewer, her pink Death Scythe, materialized into thin air. She immediately grabbed the handle as soon as it appeared. Then she casually began swinging Skewer around, slashing the red eyes looking at her intently.
Hmgm.
This feels different.
"Princess Neoma!"
"Eomma!"
Neoma lifted her head.
In the corner of the tower, she saw Paige Avery using her staff to create a shield.
Behind her were Greko and a few royal mages.
The red eyes that were stuck on the ceiling, walls, and floor were contaminating the air— making it hard for humans to breathe without getting poisoned.
Hence, Paige Avery did the right thing by creating a barrier instead of fighting the minor gods.
But Paige’s shield won’t last long.
The polluted air was melting Paige Avery’s shield.
Neoma raised her hand and enveloped her kids (and the other mages) inside the Bubble that she created for them.
As a result, the group levitated a little while inside the giant sphere.
The floor is also dangerous, so a Bubble is safer than my Dome.
"Lewis, I want to do a little experiment," Neoma said, looking over her shoulder to see Lewis stomping on the red eyes on the floor. "It’s a little dangerous, though."
"I’ll do it, Princess Neoma," Lewis said, lifting his head to meet Neoma’s eyes. "What do I need to do?"
***
RUTO was glad that he returned to the Upper World when he did.
Yes, he would miss Neoma terribly.
However, they couldn’t really let their guard down.
Even though Helstor was bound to the Upper World because of the contract that Neoma and Trevor Kesser had tricked him into signing, the God of Eternal Darkness still had ’limbs’ everywhere.
"Change the rules of the war?" Ruto asked indifferently. "What change are you trying to propose here, Helstor?"
"The rule about choosing the Battle Representatives," Helstor said calmly. "Let’s refine it."
