Chapter 789: Chapter 774: Lone Boat on a Leaf (Part 2)

"Zzzzzz!"

The usual hum of radio static suddenly startled Wang Zhongyu, who hurriedly stuffed the Hand-held Radio under the bedding covering him, aiming to reduce the risk of zombies outside the car detecting it.

Perhaps influenced by psychological factors, even though he had immediately implemented soundproof measures, Wang Zhongyu still felt the zombies’ agitation becoming more intense.

"Hey, Xiao Wen, wake up!"

Wang Zhongyu tried to lower his voice as much as possible, but the direct consequence was that neither zombies nor Wen Quanxin could hear him.

To make sure he could promptly receive instructions from Old Xu, Wen Quanxin had placed the Hand-held Radio by his ear, worried he might miss something important once asleep. Unfortunately, he underestimated his pig-like deep sleep with no sense of alertness.

Damn it, he’s truly a dead pig; the fire’s practically burning his ass, yet he’s still sleeping soundly. Wang Zhongyu called out to him several more times, but there was no response.

Moreover, the snoring from the cargo box became even louder, making Wang Zhongyu angry but more worried about whether they still had any chance to escape.

The shaking of the car grew more intense; Wang Zhongyu now fully understood what people mean by the power of numbers—oh no, to be precise, the power of many cars.

Sharp zombie claws kept scratching at the car’s body, producing an ear-piercing sound like scraping the bottom of a pot, driving anyone insane.

Wang Zhongyu was suffering inside the car; he could do nothing. Driving the car to break through wasn’t possible, and abandoning the car to escape was a death wish. What annoyed him the most was that Wen Quanxin was still snoring, creating more noise in the cargo box behind him.

Wang Zhongyu picked up the Steel Blade on the passenger seat; the metallic blade reflected a terrifying light as he gently caressed it, stupidly smiling to himself. He contemplated whether to gamble on killing his way out with the blade or simply end his life to avoid the agony of being torn apart.

Clearly, he had lost all hope of survival; unless a miracle happened, no one could leave this alley surrounded by waves of zombies alive. It was just a matter of time before death.

Should he say goodbye to the villa side, so they wouldn’t be confused and send people out to search for him later? So, not to add more trouble to the already burdened Old Xu, Wang Zhongyu decided it was better to notify him in advance.

"Boom!" A thunderous explosion shook the earth, causing Wang Zhongyu to tremble, and the Steel Blade dropped into the gear area, almost slicing his thumb.

Wen Quanxin’s situation was slightly worse; he was buried under a collapsed pile of supplies, struggling to free his hand from various packaging covering him, blindly swiping back and forth to open a path to get up.

Moreover, what fell on him were not just paper-packaged food but also many canned goods, so it’s understandable why being hit by those things wasn’t pleasant.

Despite his sore body, Wen Quanxin quickly scrambled up; the swelling on his forehead marked the damage from the recent shock, showing his head hadn’t escaped unscathed.

Already disoriented from waking abruptly from a deep sleep, Wen Quanxin was now even more confused due to the impact on his head. Yet, his brain’s subconscious instinctively drove him towards the car door; he had to get out and see what had happened.

Just as he touched the car door handle ready to turn it, he suddenly stopped.

No, there was movement; Wen Quanxin clearly heard sparse footsteps outside the car, footsteps with a frequency very familiar to him.

Zombies!!

"Hey, Xiao Wang, damn, something’s happened, do you know? Over!"

Wang Zhongyu took the Hand-held Radio, stunned for a full 10 seconds, then finally found an outlet for his pent-up anger: "Geez, you’re finally awake, sleeping like a dead pig, calling you forever without a response, we’ve been surrounded by zombies, you know? Over!"

"Damn it, what the hell happened? How are you handling your shift like this? Zombies came, and you didn’t notice? Over!"

"Damn it, how can you blame me for being surrounded by zombies? It’s all because your snoring attracted them. I said sleep if you sleep, but no need to howl like a ghost. Now we’re in for it, our lives are at stake today. Over!"

Realizing his big mistake, Wen Quanxin was too embarrassed to say anything further, instead growing more worried about Wang Zhongyu.

After all, Wen Quanxin was in a metal-wrapped cargo box, zombies would need to put up a fight to get in, but Wang Zhongyu was different; the driving cabin’s three-sided glass could be easily broken by zombies, a fact proven in past battles.

"Xiao Wang, can you drive the car to escape?" The cargo box was airtight without any means to observe outside, making Wen Quanxin feel blind, relying solely on the Hand-held Radio to learn the situation from Wang Zhongyu.

"Bullshit, if I could drive, I would’ve already done so; let me tell you the alleys are now completely filled with those damn things, we can’t escape. Over!"

"Damn it, how did it come to this, didn’t we clean out surrounding zombies? Over!"

"How would I know where these beasts came from, talking about it now won’t help a damn thing. Say, Xiao Wen, soon I might need to go on ahead.

Then make sure you don’t make a sound whatsoever; believe that after enjoying me as a feast, these beasts should leave on their own.

Anyway, there’s enough supplies in the cargo box to last you a while; survive the first few days, and you can contact Old Xu to come and get you. Over!"

Wang Zhongyu’s words carried a sense of tragedy; he knew escaping was impossible but hoped his death could at least save Wen Quanxin.

After hearing this, Wen Quanxin felt a pang in his nose, his eyes filling with tears.

Clenching the Hand-held Radio tightly, Wen Quanxin choked out one word at a time: "Xiao Wang, damn it, what cowardice are you pretending to be with me? Until the last moment, I’m not letting you give up hope. We’ve weathered storms before, I don’t believe we would capsize here in this ditch, there must be a way, there must be!" Frustrated, Wen Quanxin scratched his head, trying to think of a plan to help Wang Zhongyu escape, but with the massive waves of zombies outside, escaping was easier said than done.

Yet Wang Zhongyu was so righteous, he couldn’t have him become a coward; Wen Quanxin’s fiery temper was seriously ignited, picking up the Steel Blade from the ground, speaking to Wang Zhongyu in a steady voice: "Xiao Wang, I’m not letting you die; I’m going down to cut a path, you wait, once I tell you to open the door, just open it and follow me to the alley, over!"

"Damn it, are you crazy? Don’t mess around, you don’t even know the situation outside, Xiao Wen, don’t go wild, you’ll only waste your life for nothing!"

Wen Quanxin couldn’t hear Wang Zhongyu’s words anymore; he threw the Hand-held Radio on the ground, raised his Steel Blade, and headed to the door once more.

The man-versus-zombie showdown was about to explode! (To be continued. If you like this work, feel free to vote for it with recommendation tickets and monthly tickets on Qidian (qidian.com), your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
