Chapter 770: Chapter 755: Ready to Strike (Part 4)
Spring Xiu’s near-mad cursing actually amused He Lei. He gestured to Qiao Shan to come closer, then said, "Go tell the brothers to get ready. You’re in charge of the team. Bring me Spring Xiu’s head."
"Yes, Brother Lei. I’ll get on it right away. But how many people should I take with me this time?"
The reason Qiao Shan asked was mainly because he was worried that if he took too many people, He Lei would call him useless. But if he took too few, he’d fear not completing the task and facing the other side.
So he simply let the other party make the decision for him, showing that he had enough respect for He Lei.
However, He Lei clearly didn’t care about Qiao Shan’s considerate thoughts. Instead, his words served as a reminder. He intended to contact the subordinates he sent to monitor the situation to verify if they had figured out Spring Xiu’s gang. If they had, he would make the appropriate arrangements.
"I told you to go open the door. Why did you run back?" Once Spring Xiu regained his composure, he noticed the car was still parked in place, and instinctively looked out the window. His subordinates, fearing he might get angry and shoot someone, quickly explained, "Brother Spring, I... I tried to push the door, but it wouldn’t budge."
"Damn you..." Spring Xiu swallowed his words halfway. He realized that today, fate had purely intended to embarrass him.
Fine, since things had come to this, he didn’t plan to argue any further. He waved his hand and said, "One person can’t open it, huh? Well, you go down there too and push it. I refuse to believe a damn door can stop us!"
The subordinate driving rushed to leave the car, afraid that if he moved too slowly, Spring Xiu would unleash his wrath on him.
Today’s journey had been miserable. Driving in this wretched weather was hard enough, but more importantly, he had to stay constantly on guard for Spring Xiu’s possible attacks.
Just minutes earlier, he had almost gotten shot for a wrong move.
The two subordinates pushed at the door with all their might, not daring to hold back at all. It’s no exaggeration to say they were using every ounce of strength, but the door, having lost its power supply, remained immovable.
Spring Xiu saw this clearly from the car and swore, "Useless fools," before stepping out of the vehicle!
"All of you get out of the damn way, even women are stronger than you!"
The two subordinates obediently stepped aside to make way for him. Spring Xiu, moving with a twisting gait, approached the electric sliding door and said, "What am I supposed to say about you two? Just one damn door and two people couldn’t open it. But if it’s me, I’ll just... shit!"
Spring Xiu intended to show off his brute strength to his subordinates, but unfortunately for him, the door refused to cooperate, not budging no matter how much force he applied.
Seeing Spring Xiu’s futile struggle, the two subordinates felt secretly pleased, thinking to themselves: Isn’t Spring Xiu the one who likes to call people idiots and weaklings? So why’s he struggling now?
Though they thought this, both men kept a stern expression on their faces, not daring to show a hint of amusement.
"Damn it, you two idiots just standing there gawking—come help push! What, you expect me to do everything for you?"
Knowing his pride was wounded, Spring Xiu quickly abandoned his boastful attitude and proceeded to berate his subordinates once again.
The two subordinates returned to their positions. With their combined effort, the door appeared to lose ground slightly; however, this was only temporary. After moving about 50CM, the door stopped again.
Despite their best efforts, Spring Xiu and his men couldn’t move it another inch.
"Damn it! It’s all you two useless fools’ fault, making it so I can’t even get through a door! Useless! Worthless!" Spring Xiu kicked the door several times to vent his anger.
The two subordinates had already retreated to the side, hoping to avoid his wrath.
Perhaps unable to withstand the bitter cold, Spring Xiu reluctantly decided to climb over the door.
The two subordinates naturally acted as pathfinders. After they successfully climbed over, Spring Xiu returned to the car, slipped his handgun and hand-held radio into his belt, and then struggled to climb over the snow-covered electric iron gate, soaking his pants in the process.
"Brother Spring, this door is also locked."
Spring Xiu walked up and twisted the handle, pushing a bit. Just as his subordinates said, the door was locked.
"Aaargh!" Spring Xiu’s hysterical rage returned, and the subordinates watched him pound and kick the guardroom door, worried he might drive himself mad.
Should he truly go insane, they wouldn’t necessarily feel sympathy. Instead, they’d be liberated from the constant worry of following a lunatic. But they feared he might shoot them in a fit before losing his mind; that would truly be disastrous.
Spring Xiu’s tantrum quickly sapped his energy. He hadn’t eaten all day, and his stomach growled in protest.
Finding food became his top priority. Rumor had it that Liu Fugui’s factory was stocked with enough provisions to last decades.
In his hunger, Spring Xiu began daydreaming of sitting before a pile of delicacies.
"You two, go explore that factory. Liu Fugui’s supplies should be in there. Get me some food, now!"
Spring Xiu’s words triggered the hunger in his two subordinates as well. If anything, they were more exhausted than Spring Xiu, given everything they’d been through, from fighting to enduring his irrational wrath.
Unfortunately, reality was harsh. The subordinates returned empty-handed soon after leaving, prompting Spring Xiu to ask in surprise, "Food... where’s the food I told you to get?"
"Brother Spring! All the factory doors are locked. Without keys, we can’t open them!» the subordinates explained, their faces long as if begrudging their fate, not caring if Spring Xiu would lose his temper again. It was frustrating to know the provisions were so close yet unreachable.
"He Lei! Damn He Lei! It’s all his damn fault! He locked all the doors and windows of the factory! I’m going to ruin him, I swear I’ll ruin him!" Spring Xiu vowed through gritted teeth.
The two subordinates followed closely behind him, silent. The faint light from their flashlights looked feeble against the endless darkness.
Entering the office building, Spring Xiu, unwilling to give up, randomly tried to open doors on the first floor’s reception area, each attempt proving futile.
He slumped onto a sofa in the lobby. Before falling asleep, he instructed one subordinate to check upstairs for anything useful, particularly food, while the other guarded his safety downstairs.
After all, it was the apocalypse, and Spring Xiu did not want to be caught off guard by zombies or enemies while he slept.
He believed that by the time he woke up, the other subordinates would have returned, allowing him to take action once his strength was restored.
Especially regarding He Lei—Spring Xiu wanted him to understand the consequences of his actions.
Initially aligning with him out of necessity due to He Lei’s connection with Liu Fugui, Spring Xiu couldn’t have foreseen how infuriatingly arrogant he would turn out to be. If he dared disregard Spring Xiu now, what would happen if left unchecked?
One day, He Lei might treat Spring Xiu just like Liu Fugui, so better to deal with such opportunists early on.
Spring Xiu silently plotted his revenge. Soon, he drifted into a deep sleep. (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please read on m.qidian.com.)
