Chapter 609: The Two Families

Third Person’s POV

It was only then that she left the classroom completely.

The violet-haired professor watched Sharon’s departing figure calmly but made no attempt whatsoever to stop her.

Within the New Moon Magic Academy, attending lectures was never compulsory as students came here of their own free will.

Whether they chose to attend classes diligently or waste away their precious time depended entirely upon themselves.

Those who worked tirelessly, excelled in written examinations, practical assessments, and dangerous field missions would naturally receive better cultivation manuals, more profound magical spell techniques, and increasingly valuable opportunities.

As for those who failed, they could only watch others leave them behind.

That was the philosophy upon which this prestigious academy had been built since its founding.

The academy possessed everything an ambitious mage could ever dream of.

Top-grade mana cultivation chambers where the density of mana surpassed even that found in many noble estates...

Entire markets dedicated to rare herbs, magical ingredients, artifacts, and ancient tomes...

Countless opportunities to compete against the greatest young talents gathered from every corner of the Northern Glacial Region...

Every single resource one could dream of existed here.

However, obtaining those opportunities required students to struggle relentlessly against one another, treating every examination, every mission, and every competition as another step toward climbing higher in the path of power.

Only those willing to fight tooth and nail, surpass others, and use every challenge as a stepping stone could continue ascending toward the peak.

Yet despite encouraging fierce competition, the academy enforced one absolute rule that nobody dared violate, and it was that unauthorized fighting within academy grounds was strictly forbidden.

Whether inside classrooms, corridors, libraries, dormitories, or anywhere outside the designated combat arenas, initiating violence without permission resulted in immediate expulsion.

Status meant nothing before that rule.

Whether one was a prince or princess, whether they were a heir of a powerful noble family or were a disciple of a powerful elder, every offender received the same punishment.

It was precisely because Sharon understood this rule better than anyone else that her remaining rationality returned the instant the professor interrupted her.

Only then did she realize the enormous mistake she had almost committed.

Had she attacked Aurelia moments earlier, not only would she have satisfied her anger for an instant, but she would also have thrown away every opportunity the academy offered to her.

Grinding her teeth so hard that they nearly cracked, she forcefully swallowed the humiliation burning inside her chest.

Unable to endure another second inside that classroom, she hurried away.

She needed to go to some place else and find some way to vent the anger and shame consuming her heart.

Meanwhile, the beautiful violet-haired professor remained completely expressionless as she watched Sharon disappear beyond the doorway.

No expression appeared upon her face, as she didn’t attempt to stop or ask her about what had just happened.

Only after Sharon had completely vanished did her calm violet eyes slowly move towards the true center of the disturbance.

Aurelia.

The red-haired young woman quietly raised her head, and her emerald-green eyes met the professor’s violet ones.

For several silent moments, neither of them spoke, and even after that, the professor didn’t ask what had happened, nor did Aurelia attempt to explain herself.

It was almost as though the two of them had reached some silent understanding through that brief exchange of gazes alone.

Without another word, the professor calmly walked toward the raised teaching platform at the front of the classroom.

At nearly the same moment, Aurelia quietly returned to her seat.

She lowered her eyes towards the parchment resting before her and seemingly resumed reading the potion formulas written across it.

However, anyone observing carefully could easily notice that her attention was no longer upon the notes.

Her thoughts had already drifted somewhere far away.

Beside her, the lazy black-haired girl quietly observed Aurelia from the corner of her eye.

A faint, almost imperceptible glimmer flashed through her dark pupils before the corners of her lips curved upward ever so slightly.

She seemed to have realized something interesting.

Nevertheless, she asked no questions.

Instead, she lazily leaned back into her chair once more before calmly shifting her attention toward the beautiful violet-haired professor, who had already begun preparing for the day’s lesson.

Meanwhile, Aurelia remained torn by indecision as she stared blankly at the open potion manual resting before her on the polished wooden desk.

On the surface, she appeared to be listening attentively to the violet-haired professor’s lecture regarding the creation of rare augmentation-type potions.

Her eyes occasionally followed the graceful movements of the professor as Eleanor demonstrated each step of the brewing process through live experimentation, carefully controlling the flames beneath the cauldron and explaining every subtle change in the potion’s color, density, and mana fluctuations.

Yet Aurelia’s mind had already drifted far away from the classroom.

Although she occasionally lowered her head to jot down a few notes and pretended to focus on measuring herbs and recording the professor’s explanations, her thoughts refused to remain on the lesson for more than a few moments before wandering back toward the same unbelievable possibility.

Should she tell the violet-haired professor standing before the class about her suspicions?

Or should she keep everything to herself until she became absolutely certain?

The question continued to torment her mind, refusing to let her concentrate no matter how hard she tried.

The professor standing before her was none other than Eleanor Mistborn.

Not only was she one of the academy’s most respected potion professors, but she was also the mother of Ethan Mistborn, Aurelia’s supposed dead fiancee.

Ever since Ethan had mysteriously vanished during his Awakening Ceremony nine years ago in that bizarre and incomprehensible incident that had shaken the entire Dark North City, after its news was eventually leaked, both the Stormborne Family and the Mistborn Family had exhausted every possible method to search for him.

During the first few years after his disappearance, none of them had been willing to accept that such a talented child who might not even come into their family in thousands of years was truly gone, as hope still burned brightly inside everyone’s hearts.
