Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Evolving into a Capitalist

Su Mengyao was kind enough to explain it to Feng Dong, but the more he listened, the more he felt Yun Zijin had done it on purpose.

The fifty million that so many of them had painstakingly scraped together, Yun Zijin had donated with a single, casual comment. Wasn’t that just her way of telling him that the very thing he’d schemed so hard to get was, to her, not even worth mentioning?

"Feng Dong, what’s with that look? It was just a private race. You can’t be that much of a sore loser, can you?"

Feng Dong’s gaze toward Yun Zijin was venomous. Sheng Yang took a step forward, blocking his line of sight.

"Heh! Since when did Second Young Master Sheng start simping for someone?"

Feng Dong retracted his gaze from Yun Zijin and commented mockingly.

"Only someone like you would think that of others."

Su Mengyao couldn’t stand to hear Feng Dong verbally insult Sheng Yang, so she immediately shot back.

"Actually, I think the word ’simp’ suits you far better than Sheng Yang. After all... look at you, working so hard to complete your mission, yet your master hasn’t shown their face from start to finish.

If you ask me, your master isn’t doing a very good job."

From the moment she met Feng Dong, Yun Zijin had felt something was off about the way he flirted with her and Su Mengyao.

So, she’d had Zero One contact Mei Lin to investigate. She had just received the files, and the web of relationships they revealed left even Yun Zijin stunned.

This Feng Dong, on the surface, was Xia Jiajiao’s mindless admirer, but in reality, he was Cen Mulin’s simp.

The reason he was cozying up to Xia Jiajiao under the guise of an admirer was that the Xia Family and the Cen Family were both bidding on the same project.

Cen Mulin had sent Feng Dong to gain Xia Jiajiao’s trust and then wheedle the details of the Xia Family’s bid proposal out of her.

As for why Feng Dong had targeted Yun Zijin right from the start, it was because he knew she and Xia Jiajiao were on bad terms. He wanted to use their rivalry to solidify his standing with Xia Jiajiao, which would make it easier to get information from her.

’I have to admit, the relationships involved are truly complex.’

"Don’t spout nonsense! I just can’t stand you. You’re clearly from the countryside, yet you act all high and mighty all day. You’re just begging to be taught a lesson!"

You could hear the raw, personal emotion in his voice as he said it.

Yun Zijin couldn’t be bothered to deal with him. The prize money was already secured, anyway. She turned to Sheng Yang and the others. "You guys want to have a race?"

’We’re already here, after all. We can’t just watch my race and then leave.’

"Of course we’re racing! My stake is the watch I’m wearing today."

Sheng Yang was out of spending money, and the watch on his wrist was something he’d bought on a whim.

It was a Cartier Ballon Bleu mechanical rose gold diamond watch, with an official retail price of ¥253,000.00.

"Look at you, becoming a boss and already acting like a true capitalist! This isn’t even that much money. You’ve got some nerve putting this up."

Fu Yang glanced at the watch Sheng Yang was taking off his wrist and rolled his eyes.

’It’s not even a limited edition, and it costs less than a million. Where did he even dig this thing up?’

"Hey, at least I have something to put up. If you guys have a problem with it, I’ll just take it back."

As he spoke, Sheng Yang reached to take his watch back from the tray a server was holding.

"Whoa! The price might be a little underwhelming, but the style is decent. No need to take it back."

Li Yue Xuan placed his hand over the watch on the tray, stopping Sheng Yang from taking it back.

"Sister Yun, are you going to race with us?"

Watching Yun Zijin’s race as a spectator had been exhilarating enough. Now, Sheng Yang was even more eager to experience what it was like to race against her himself.

"Maybe next time. I just finished a race, so I don’t think I’d have the stamina for another one right away."

Even though this was just a private race they’d organized themselves, Yun Zijin knew she wasn’t in peak condition after already completing one race. Competing against Sheng Yang and the others now would be disrespectful to her opponents.

They could always organize another race, but she wouldn’t be competing again today.

Since Yun Zijin didn’t want to race, Sheng Yang and the others didn’t press the issue and went to find other people at the club.

It wouldn’t be much fun with just the few of them; it was much better to call on others for a massive free-for-all.

Many of the people there had been hoping for a chance to exchange a few words with Sheng Yang and his friends. When they heard they were looking for people to race with, everyone eagerly signed up.

"That’s so many people! Are these stakes going to be enough to go around?"

Su Mengyao glanced at the items on the tray held by the server standing quietly nearby. Why did they suddenly seem so paltry?

"Don’t be silly. No matter how many people join, only three can make it into the top three. The value of these stakes is already pretty high."

The tray held not only Sheng Yang’s watch, but also a set of car keys and two bank cards.

The car keys belonged to Li Yue Xuan’s Ferrari 488, and the bank cards were from Lu Yunfeng and Fu Yang.

Each card supposedly held five million, so all together, the prize pool was worth at least ten million.

It was a bit less than the prize from Yun Zijin’s earlier race, but for many people, it was still a fortune.

"Come on, come on, place your bets! Place your bets! Who are you backing in this race? Who do you think will be the final champion?

Most racers are at 2-to-1 odds, with a few select racers at 1.5-to-1! All bets are final! All bets are final!"

Before the race officially began, someone with a notebook was shouting and taking bets in the stands.

Yun Zijin glanced at the notebook and saw that only Sheng Yang and his three friends had different odds.

Yun Zijin and Su Mengyao exchanged a look, then both took out their phones, scanned a QR code, and placed their bets.

As for who they bet on, the two had a silent understanding not to ask. They placed their bets separately.

Once they had placed their bets, the man with the notebook moved on to find other people.

Down at the starting line, a row of distinctive supercars was lined up. The referee was in position, and the drivers, having changed into their racing suits, were settled in their seats.

"AHHH!! GO, SHENG YANG!"

Su Mengyao was completely love-struck. Seeing Sheng Yang in his racing suit made her visibly buzz with excitement.

Sheng Yang heard Su Mengyao’s voice and instinctively glanced in their direction, immediately eliciting a wave of screams from the stands.

When he wasn’t being compared to the likes of Lu Yunque or Sheng Hao, Sheng Yang’s charm was actually quite considerable.

Yun Zijin, of course, remained completely unfazed.

The referee’s whistle blew, and the line of supercars shot forward, each driver gunning the engine.

"AHHH! GO, SHENG YANG!"

The race began, and Sheng Yang wasn’t in first place. Su Mengyao stood beside Yun Zijin, nervously cheering him on.

"Stop shouting. He can’t hear a thing right now."

Even if she screamed her lungs out, Sheng Yang wouldn’t be able to hear a single word.

Besides, if Su Mengyao kept screaming like that, Yun Zijin was afraid she’d be the one getting hurt in the end—from a ruptured eardrum.

Su Mengyao paused, realizing that Yun Zijin actually had a very good point.

"But if I don’t shout a little, it just feels like the atmosphere isn’t right."

Su Mengyao felt like she had to let out a few shouts to really get into the spirit of it.
