Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Backing Out?
"Hmph! Running your mouth is all you’re good for. Don’t come crying when you lose, looking for a shoulder to lean on!"
The race was about to start, but Feng Dong still found time to taunt Yun Zijin.
Yun Zijin ignored him, giving Sheng Yang a reassuring glance before deftly sliding into the driver’s seat of the Sielle.
The two cars, one white and one black, slowly stopped behind the starting line. The Fengxing Club’s referee was in position. He swiftly swung the black and white flag downward as a whistle blew.
Yun Zijin slammed on the gas the instant the race began. The Sielle’s acceleration was on full display; with just the initial launch, Yun Zijin had already pulled half a car’s length ahead of Feng Dong.
Resentment practically spilled from Feng Dong’s eyes. He floored the gas pedal, vowing to beat Yun Zijin.
After the start, Yun Zijin maintained a constant distance from the Lamborghini Gallardo behind her.
When Feng Dong sped up, Yun Zijin sped up. When Feng Dong slowed down, Yun Zijin slowed down.
Anyone who knew anything about racing could see that the Sielle was toying with the Lamborghini.
Inside his car, Feng Dong’s expression was so tense it was almost a snarl.
"Yun! Zi! Jin! I! Will! Not! Lose!"
In contrast, Yun Zijin in her Sielle was so relaxed that she even had the leisure to glance at her rearview mirror.
Seeing the Lamborghini Gallardo relentlessly pursuing her, the corners of Yun Zijin’s lips curled up slightly.
’These two cars have completely incomparable performance. If Feng Dong dared to race, he should have been prepared for me to utterly crush him.’
On the final lap, Yun Zijin gave the gas another push, and the distance between the Sielle and the Lamborghini began to widen significantly.
Even with his foot slammed to the floor, Feng Dong had almost no chance of turning the tables.
But how could Feng Dong accept losing to a woman he had just been so openly dismissive of? The desire to win grew into a stubborn obsession. He kept the pedal pinned to the floor, showing no intention of slowing down even as he approached a corner.
"What is Feng Dong doing? He’s not slowing down for the corner! Does he have a death wish?!"
In the stands, many people could tell something was wrong. Almost everyone’s attention was fixed on Feng Dong’s car.
Meanwhile, Yun Zijin had already crossed the finish line, setting a new record for the fastest lap time on Fengxing Club’s A1 track.
BANG!
The tremendous sound of an impact occurred at almost the exact same moment Yun Zijin crossed the finish line.
Only a scattered few people were still paying attention to Yun Zijin.
"What happened?"
Yun Zijin had just finished the race and was still in her car when the loud noise erupted, so she couldn’t see what had happened.
The referee at the finish line gave Yun Zijin a brief explanation of what had transpired, and only then did she breathe a sigh of relief.
"I’ll go take a look."
Human nature is to rubberneck. Yun Zijin got out of her car and hurried over to where the crowd had gathered.
"There was a crash. Is he okay?"
They were both wearing professional racing suits, complete with all sorts of protective gear. Inside the car, Feng Dong looked a little pale, but he was thankfully still conscious.
His Lamborghini Gallardo, however, would probably have to be sent to the dealership for repairs.
When Yun Zijin approached, Feng Dong locked his eyes on her. A smirk that wasn’t quite a smile played on his lips. "Wouldn’t you call this a dishonorable victory?"
’The words "go fuck yourself" were right on the tip of my tongue.’
"Mr. Feng, are you trying to go back on your word?
Is a mere fifty million worth your reputation?
A person who doesn’t keep their word is not someone we would choose as a business partner."
The main reason he hit the guardrail was that Feng Dong hadn’t slowed down on the corner. He also lacked a clear understanding of the car’s cornering limits and ended up crashing straight into the track’s guardrail.
If she hadn’t pulled so far ahead of him, she might have been caught up in the accident.
"Hmph! If I hadn’t accidentally hit the guardrail, it’s hard to say who would have won!"
"Oh? By ’hard to say,’ do you mean the part where I was toying with you the entire race and then left you half a lap behind on the final lap? Is that the part that was ’hard to say’?
Mr. Feng, it pays to be self-aware."
Yun Zijin gave Feng Dong no chance to weasel out of it and turned to Manager Zhang, who was in charge of holding their winnings.
"Manager Zhang, why don’t you tell us the result of this race?"
Zhang Yanming opened his mouth, but in the end, said nothing.
"Feng Dong, everyone saw the result with their own eyes! Even if you hadn’t crashed into the guardrail for not slowing down on the corner, you still wouldn’t have won this race!"
What Sheng Yang couldn’t stand the most was Feng Dong’s spinelessness—the way he went back on his word.
If anyone other than Yun Zijin had been racing Feng Dong today, they probably would have had to swallow this bitter pill and suffer in silence.
"Feng Dong, don’t do something that will make people look down on you," Lu Yunfeng added, also trying to persuade him.
’Trying to cheat Yun Zijin... Feng Dong must really have a death wish.’
"Tch! I’ve really seen it all now. I have no idea what kind of potion she’s fed you to make every single one of you her lapdog!
Fine, if you say I lost, then I lost. My family is small-time; I can’t afford to offend the young masters of the Four Great Families."
Feng Dong was pulled from the driver’s seat of the Lamborghini. He leaned heavily against the car door, looking at Sheng Yang and the others with contempt.
"You bastard, Feng! What nonsense are you spouting? You’re just making excuses for your own lack of skill!
Even if you raced again, you’d still be no match for Zijin!"
Su Mengyao had watched her share of races with Su Jingyun. She had watched today’s race between Yun Zijin and Feng Dong very closely, and it was clear that Feng Dong was no match for Yun Zijin from the very beginning.
If Yun Zijin hadn’t been toying with him for half the race, she probably would have reached the finish line even earlier.
’He lost the race but won’t blame himself, choosing only to blame others. I really don’t know how someone like him has managed to survive this long.’
"Well, well! The Young Miss of the Su Family came to join the fun, did she? Do your parents and brother know you’ve stooped so low as to become someone’s bootlicker?"
The sneer on Feng Dong’s lips was completely undisguised.
"Manager Zhang, please transfer the winnings to this card."
Instead of arguing with Feng Dong like Su Mengyao and the others, Yun Zijin walked directly up to Manager Zhang, took out her bank card, and told him to transfer the money to her account.
’Fifty million. That’s enough to find another orphanage and fund its expansion.’
After weighing the pros and cons, Manager Zhang decided to side with Yun Zijin and very quickly processed the transfer for her.
For such a large transaction, the bank’s verification process was more involved. Although Manager Zhang’s end showed the transfer was successful, it took a while before Yun Zijin received the text notification about the change in her balance.
Seeing the text message for a one-hundred-million-yuan deposit, Yun Zijin looked at Feng Dong. "Thank you for your generosity, Mr. Feng. I’ll be sure to put in a good word for you with the children at the orphanage."
"What do you mean by that?"
"It means Zijin is going to donate the fifty million you lost to an orphanage!
But since you lost it to Zijin, the donation won’t be made in your name."
