Chapter 460: Chapter 460: Not Completely Stupid

"At least he’s not completely stupid."

Lu Zhen shot him a glance, signaling him to stay quiet.

Leng Pan didn’t argue further.

"Fine. We’ll go first."

She turned and pushed the door without hesitation.

The heavy metal door on the rooftop creaked open slowly, revealing a dark stairwell that led into the building below.

A damp, moldy smell wafted out immediately, mixed with something far more unpleasant. The unmistakable stench of decay.

The moment they stepped inside, the temperature seemed to drop.

Water dripped steadily from above, forming small puddles along the steps.

The walls were stained with dark streaks, and faint scratch marks could be seen here and there.

Lu Hao frowned slightly.

"It seems that something passed through here recently and it’s not friendly."

His voice was low, but everyone heard it.

Leng Pan nodded.

"Everyone stay alert." She ordered.

They descended carefully, step by step.

The lower they went, the stronger the smell became.

By the time they reached the floor below the rooftop, even the most experienced among them couldn’t help but wrinkle their noses.

"Damn... what died here?" Ouyang Jin muttered.

The smell was definitely worse than that of zombies. Even though those things were smelly since they were corpses anyway, they didn’t smell so bad.

"Something was probably killed here. We’ll find out soon what it is." Leng Pan added.

She wondered how the other team had gotten to the roof since they didn’t seem to have gone through the door.

However, now was not the time for such thoughts, so she concentrated on walking down towards the areas with supplies.

As they turned the corner into the corridor, the scene before them confirmed Leng Pan’s guess.

The hallway was filled with corpses. Some were humans, and others were.....not.

It was unsettling seeing a small mountain of corpses in the narrow corridor.

"What the hell!!!!" Even Vanish couldn’t help but curse.

The scene sent chills down everyone’s spine.

Such a scene hadn’t been seen in a long time.

Mutated creatures with distorted limbs lay scattered across the floor, their bodies swollen and partially decomposed.

Some had claw marks, others had been burned, and a few looked as though they had been crushed by immense force.

The opposing team’s leader, who had followed them down, spoke from behind.

"We cleared this floor yesterday."

Leng Pan glanced back at him. She was surprised to know that they had actually already been into the building.

She had assumed that they hadn’t seen what was inside. But now, it seemed she had underestimated them.

However, looking at the scene before her, she could tell that the human corpses were probably their teammates, whom they lost during the battle.

"How many did you lose?" She asked without any sort of sympathy on her face or in her tone.

She had seen so many deaths in the apocalypse such that the only ones that affected her were of the people she protected.

The man’s jaw tightened.

"...Five." Silence fell briefly after he had answered.

That number wasn’t big, but every human life now counted. So, it was still a huge loss.

Loss had become common in this world, but hearing it never became easier.

Leng Pan didn’t press further. Instead, she stepped forward, her senses extending outward cautiously.

The alien detector in her hand kept flashing a green light.

"It seems there aren’t any zombies nearby." She muttered as she stepped over the corpses on the ground.

"But that doesn’t mean we’re safe," Lu Zhen added. "So, stay vigilant."

They kept descending in the building from floor to floor.

The building appeared to have once been a large warehouse or storage facility.

Broken shelves lay scattered around, and boxes, many of them water-damaged piled up against walls.

Leng Pan wondered how water had leaked to the upper floors to cause such damage.

However, looking at the broken windows, she didn’t wonder anymore.

However, what caught everyone’s attention wasn’t the mess.

It was the supplies.

There were boxes of canned food, sealed packaged snacks, and even some medical kits.

Even large containers of preserved goods.

Despite the flooding, a significant portion of the supplies had survived, likely due to being stored on higher levels.

Or maybe someone had hidden them there. After all, what were medical kits doing among such supplies?

It looked like they had stumbled upon someone else’s hidden stash.

The moment both teams laid eyes on the stockpile, the atmosphere changed.

Their breathing became heavier and their hands tightened on their weapons.

However, Leng Pan’s team had a milder reaction compared to the other team

Even though they had agreed to split the supplies, the sheer quantity made it difficult for anyone to remain completely calm.

Leng Pan noticed this change immediately.

"Stick to the agreement," she said calmly, her voice cutting through the tension that was rising rapidly.

"Half each." She added with a solemn expression.

The opposing team’s leader nodded his head with some difficulty.

"Half."

But the people behind him exchanged uneasy glances.

It was clear that not everyone agreed. But for now, they couldn’t do anything.

Lu Zhen took half a step forward , positioning himself beside Leng Pan.

His presence alone was enough to suppress some of the unrest.

"Start collecting the supplies. We don’t have much time." he said.

For a moment, no one moved even after hearing his instructions. However, Leng Pan’s team reacted quickly and started to gather supplies.

Then, slowly, the other team began gathering supplies as well.

The sound of boxes being moved and water sloshing filled the space.

At first, things went smoothly.

Leng Pan’s team worked efficiently, their movements well practiced due to their training.

They avoided damaged goods and focused only on items that were still usable.

On the other hand, the opposing team was far less organized.

Some grabbed whatever they could. As if leaving anything behind was a sin.

Others kept glancing at Leng Pan’s group, as if afraid they might suddenly attack.

As time went on, they relaxed a bit, until someone shouted.

"Boss...look at this."
