Chapter 452: Chapter 452: Alien Detector

It was basically the same idea as the small crystal used in the ancient earth during the apocalypse to determine when an alien was near.

The light in the crystal would also change when someone holding it got close to aliens even if they had transformed themselves into human appearance.

"Alright then. Tomorrow, we can take a team to go out and test the efficiency of this device. Let’s see how many aliens it will detect during our fishing trip and hunt." Leng Pan happily took the disk and examined it with a smile.

Her little brother-in-law was really accomplished.

If they had such help early on in the apocalypse in ancient earth, maybe they wouldn’t have been defeated and have to destroy the world just to eliminate as many aliens as possible.

Leng Pan held the small metal disk between her fingers, turning it over slowly as she examined its structure.

At first glance, it looked like a simple disk or compass.

It has a smooth metallic surface with no visible buttons, and only a small circular light embedded at the center.

However, no matter how simple it looked, Leng Pan knew better than to underestimate anything Lu Tao made.

Over the last few months of the apocalypse, he has made several gadgets that turned out very helpful.

She was sure this would be no different.

"You made this yourself?" she asked again, lifting her gaze toward him.

Lu Tao puffed up his chest proudly.

"Of course. Well... mostly. I used some of the alien tech samples we collected before and combined them with some coding adjustments. It wasn’t easy, but once I figured out how their energy signatures fluctuate, it became manageable."

Leng Pan hadn’t expected that the things they collected after the battle would actually be so useful.

How on earth did her brother-in-law’s brain work? How did he figure out he could use the energy signatures on the alien armor to make an alien detector?

Uncle Li, who had been silently eating, nearly choked on his food. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Manageable?" he repeated. "You’re talking about reverse-engineering alien technology like it’s assembling a toy."

However, he was proud of his youngest nephew.

He hadn’t expected that in the Lu family, no one was to be underestimated.

Even the fifteen-year-old Lu Tao was not to be outdone.

Lu Tao grinned.

"Well, compared to hacking into encrypted military satellites, this isn’t that hard."

Everyone: "..."

Even Lu Hao glanced at him with a strange look.

Leng Pan sighed when she heard his boasting.

"In ancient earth, it took researchers years to make this kind of a detector. And even then, the range was only ten meters." She said thinking that indeed, if they had someone like Lu Tao back then, things might have had a different outcome.

Lu Tao blinked.

"Really?"

"Yes," she nodded. "At first, it could only detect aliens within five meters, and even then, there were many errors."

Lu Tao scratched his head awkwardly.

"I guess... my ability helped speed things up."

"That’s not just ’help,’ as you say it.’" Lu Zhen said calmly.

"That’s clearly a breakthrough." He added.

Leng Pan nodded her head at that evaluation. This was indeed a major breakthrough that could help in their quest to eliminate all aliens.

Lu Zhen put down his chopsticks and leaned backwards on his chair.

"With this, we don’t have to react to attacks anymore when the aliens come knocking. We can take the fight to them." He said solemnly.

Leng Pan nodded.

"Yes, we could use this disk to hunt them instead."

The next morning, the first hunting team set out in two motor boats.

Lu Zhen stepped onto the first boat and extended a hand toward his wife.

"Ready?" He asked with a gentle smile.

Leng Pan placed her hand in his and stepped down smoothly.

"I was born ready." She said proudly.

Leng Pan sat in the leading boat with a small disk in hand.

The light on the disk was glowing green, showing that within a range of fifty meters, there were only humans.

Lu Hao followed silently, his expression as calm as always.

He had slowly integrated into the life of humans but his Lu family DNA seemed a little too influential.

Even with his interaction with others, he still wore a cool face all day like his elder brother, Lu Zhen, who only smiled at his wife.

The two boats pushed off the building and entered the murky water.

The floodwater stretched endlessly in all directions.

What used to be roads, shops, and buildings were now submerged beneath a dull, and brown reflective surface.

Only the tops of taller buildings remained visible.

Everyone had their guard up because they still hadn’t tested the alien detector to see if it really worked.

So, they were all on high alert in case of an ambush like what happened to team three not long ago.

Leng Pan glanced down at the device again. The flashing light was still green.

However, she didn’t trust such calmness. Maybe the creatures had moved towards the outskirts because of the recent training activities near the base.

"Move towards the outskirts. Let’s see what we find there." She ordered and Assistant Yao, who had decided that he was still Lu Zhen’s assistant and must follow him everywhere sped up the boat.

As they moved further away from their base, the atmosphere subtly changed.

They could feel the air becoming somehow heavier and the water darker.

"Something doesn’t feel right here." Leng Pan said, her gaze focused on the disk in her hand.

As the boat moved forward, the flashing light flickered a few times then changed from green to yellow.

"Zombies?" She asked in confusion.

There were actually zombies in the water.

That was quite strange.

She had never thought that she would encounter zombies that could swim.

It was a good thing that they had insisted on water combat training recently.

"Everyone, get ready for battle." She didn’t know how the zombies could fight in water, but they couldn’t avoid them.
