Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Jinx

Zhao Tiancheng had a clear grasp of the situation. Every single person here today was someone the Zhao Family could not afford to provoke.

The only thing he could do was swallow his pride and compromise. Perhaps it was the only way to give his son, Zhao Peng, a chance to survive.

But Qin Tuo’s expression remained cold and indifferent, and Zhao Tiancheng was beginning to crumble.

Suddenly, Zhao Tiancheng lashed out with a furious roar.

"You little bastard! Get over here and kneel before Mr. Qin to beg for mercy!"

Hearing this, Zhao Peng had no choice but to obediently do as his father, Zhao Tiancheng, said.

Seeing Xu Min still standing there in a daze, Zhao Tiancheng’s anger flared, and he cursed viciously.

"Xu Min, you are a worthless bitch! This whole mess is your fault, you damned slut!"

Hearing her father-in-law’s words, Xu Min’s face went deathly pale.

The atmosphere was stretched to its breaking point. The Zhao Family knelt on the ground, desperately apologizing and begging for their lives.

But as long as Qin Tuo remained silent, they didn’t dare get back on their feet.

The hundreds of thugs surrounding them remained silent. Everyone understood that whether these people lived or died was entirely in Qin Tuo’s hands.

Suddenly, Qin Tuo stood up and said casually.

"Let’s go."

He couldn’t be bothered with them, so he simply got up and walked away.

Long Wu was momentarily surprised, but he quickly recovered and waved his hand.

"Let’s go!"

At Long Wu’s command, all the thugs began to retreat in an orderly fashion.

Ouyang Tianqi and the father and daughter from the Chen Family also hurried to follow.

Qin Tuo got into Chen Man Ni’s car, while the other thugs, along with Long Wu, Ouyang Tianqi, and the rest, got into their own vehicles.

Seeing this, Hu Qihao finally let out a heavy sigh of relief.

He had been holding his breath, almost thinking he was going to meet his end here today.

The tension suddenly drained from the bodies of the Zhao father and son, and Xu Min, nearly causing them to collapse.

The pressure Qin Tuo had exerted on them was simply immense.

They were incredibly grateful to have escaped with their lives.

A few of the Cyan Fire Gang thugs Hu Qihao had brought with him were so terrified they had collapsed to the ground.

Seeing this, Hu Qihao’s anger flared. He knew he’d been completely screwed over by that punk, Zhao Peng.

Hu Qihao threatened viciously.

"Zhao Tiancheng, you better get that worthless son of yours under control. If he dares to go against Mr. Qin again, your entire Zhao Family will be annihilated!"

After saying his piece, Hu Qihao left with his injured men.

Staring at the pools of blood on the ground and recalling the humiliating scene, Zhao Peng demanded like a madman.

"No! Why?! That Qin Tuo is nothing but an ex-con! How did he suddenly get so much support? I can’t accept this!"

SLAP!

In a flash of fury, Zhao Tiancheng slapped Zhao Peng hard across the face, knocking out two of his teeth.

The blow seemed to knock some sense into Zhao Peng.

He clutched his face, looking utterly aggrieved.

"Dad... why did you hit me?"

Zhao Tiancheng warned in a grim voice.

"Listen to me. From now on, you are never to provoke Qin Tuo again. When you see him, you will be respectful. If that’s not possible, you will turn and walk the other way. If you don’t, the Zhao Family will be wiped from the face of Ming City!"

Though Zhao Peng understood the logic, he couldn’t hide the hatred in his eyes.

Seeing his son’s expression, Zhao Tiancheng could only sigh.

"I know you’re filled with hatred, but you need to understand something: revenge is a dish best served cold. It won’t be too late to seek your vengeance when you finally have the strength to back it up."

Zhao Peng asked resentfully.

"Dad, does this mean the Zhao Family has to grovel before that punk forever?"

Zhao Tiancheng gave a bleak laugh.

"Of course! For now, you have no choice but to swallow your pride and hold your tongue when you’re around him. You know full well what will happen otherwise."

Zhao Peng gradually calmed down. He thought for a moment and realized his father made a good point, so he slowly nodded.

"Let’s go. We’re going home. And from now on, don’t you ever provoke that punk again!"

Zhao Tiancheng said, and the two of them got up to leave.

Seeing this, Xu Min hurried forward, intending to go back with them.

But Zhao Tiancheng suddenly frowned, spun around, and kicked out!

THUMP!

The kick sent Xu Min sprawling to the ground.

Xu Min’s face was a mask of utter shock. ’Why?’

Zhao Peng looked just as confused.

Then they heard Zhao Tiancheng roar in fury.

"This damned woman is a jinx! If it weren’t for this bitch, the Zhao Family would never have ended up in this mess!"

Zhao Peng looked conflicted for a moment, but then he gritted his teeth, looked away, and said nothing.

Xu Min frantically tried to explain, but Zhao Tiancheng cut her off with another warning.

"I’m warning you, you bitch! Stay away from my son! From this day forward, the Zhao Family has nothing to do with you. If you bother us again, you’ll regret it!"

Zhao Peng shot Xu Min a cold look before turning and getting into the car with his father.

Xu Min was left standing alone, her gaze vacant.

Suddenly, she broke down, crying tears of pure humiliation.

"Hah! Qin Tuo! Well done, Qin Tuo! It’s all because of you, you bastard, that I’ve ended up like this! I hope you’re happy now!"

Xu Min shrieked like a madwoman.

...

On the way back, Qin Tuo kept his eyes closed, deep in thought.

Chen Man Ni focused on driving, careful not to disturb him.

Suddenly, Qin Tuo’s eyes fluttered open, and he asked a question.

"Manni, how did you guys know I was in trouble?"

Chen Man Ni smiled and explained.

"Your parents called me in a panic. I then had my father contact Master Long and Mr. Ouyang, and we all rushed over."

Qin Tuo nodded. ’That makes sense.’

’Zhou Kexin must have notified my parents first,’ he thought. ’And in their panic, they must have thought to call Chen Man Ni.’

Even though their presence wouldn’t have changed the outcome, their actions still warmed his heart.

It was a gesture of loyalty, one that Qin Tuo would not forget.

When they arrived at the gate of his apartment complex, Qin Tuo got out, but he noticed Chen Man Ni hadn’t moved from her seat.

Qin Tuo asked curiously.

"Manni, since we’re here, why don’t you come up to my place for a bit?"

’My parents have a good impression of Chen Man Ni,’ Qin Tuo thought. ’It would be nice to have her come up and chat with them for a while.’

However, Chen Man Ni replied awkwardly.

"Qin Tuo, I’ll stay here. I wouldn’t want to disturb your parents while they’re resting."

Qin Tuo laughed.

"What’s there to disturb? They’d be thrilled to see you!"

Still, Chen Man Ni just waved her hand.

"Maybe next time, Qin Tuo!"

Qin Tuo immediately guessed the reason. ’She’s probably worried my parents will get the wrong idea.’

So, he didn’t press the issue and headed home alone.
