Chapter 484: Chapter 484: I’m Willing to Help You 5
’An eighteen-year-old with skills like that... He’s certainly worthy of being the one my sister has her eye on.’
’And worthy of being my woman’s brother!’
’But still... I’m your sister’s only man. Give your brother-in-law a chance to shine, come on!’
Though he thought this, Leona Grant knew better than anyone that Annabelle Linton would find absolutely no one to help her.
Because he had issued an order: anyone who dared to help Annabelle Linton was making an enemy of him.
It wasn’t that he absolutely needed Annabelle to come to him, nor was it that he was too proud to go to her.
The main problem was that Annabelle was just too proud, and to make matters worse, she couldn’t stand him. If he went to her of his own accord, she would undoubtedly reject him without a second thought!
If she couldn’t find a solution and had to come to him, it would be a huge loss of face for her, and he didn’t want Annabelle to have to humble herself like that.
But if he were the one to go to her, she would surely figure out that he had been pulling strings behind the scenes...
’Goddamn woman, can’t you just be a little weaker for once?’
’Always have to act so tough!’
’Just give me a sign! Even a glance would do! Then I’d fucking know what to do! I could read your face and decide whether to say anything! But you fucking disappear every day without a trace. Can you even act like a woman anymore?’
’And can you just fucking let me be the hero for once?!’
’This is just ridiculous!’
Chase stood stiffly in place, bracing himself and not daring to utter a single word.
’The only reason your wife isn’t calling is because you were such a bastard in the past.’
’So why take it out on an innocent bystander like me? I have my dignity too, you know! Hmph!’
Leona Grant paced back and forth like a cat on a hot tin roof, a nagging feeling in his gut that something was about to happen.
He checked his phone over and over, but there were no new messages. Frustrated, he tossed it onto the sofa.
RING—
The phone let out a heavenly ring. Leona’s eyes lit up instantly. Without even glancing at the caller ID, he snatched it up and answered, blurting out, "Annabelle, you..."
As it turned out...
"Helo shir, you vant to en-west in loan, yes? I hab seberal berry praw-fee-ta-bull projects, you hab int-rest to know ’bout dem, ah... (Excuse me, sir, would you like to invest in a loan? I have several extremely profitable projects here. Would you be interested in learning more about them?)"
Leona: "..."
Chase: "..."
The call had just gone through. It was a spam call from a man with a thick Cantonese accent, asking if he wanted to invest...
Leona had lived for twenty-five years. He wouldn’t claim to speak a ton of different dialects, but he could at least speak several foreign languages.
’But what the hell was this goddamn mix of a regional Cantonese accent, actual Cantonese, a stutter, Mandarin, and a dozen other infuriating intonations?!’
’He can’t even speak proper Mandarin, and he has the nerve to be a telemarketer?!’
Leona furiously hung up and slammed the phone onto the desk. The word "livid" wasn’t enough to describe the look on his face.
Ever seen the bottom of a blackened wok? Yeah, that was it.
On any other day, he would’ve fucking smashed the phone to pieces. But today... that goddamn woman still hadn’t contacted him.
Seeing Chase struggling so hard to stifle his laughter that he looked like he was about to burst, Leona roared, "What the fuck are you laughing at?! I just answered the phone! What’s so damn funny?!"
"That’s right, I was waiting for Annabelle’s call! So what? You better believe I could just ignore her completely today! Even if she begged me to pick up, I wouldn’t give her the time of day! You hear me? Do you believe me or not!"
Chase: "..."
’What the fuck does this have to do with me, Boss!’
Meeting Leona’s menacing glare, Chase lowered his head and said in a small, fawning voice, "I believe you. I believe you. I believe you!"
’Like I have a choice!’
The words had barely left his mouth when the phone rang again.
