Chapter 474: Chapter 473: I Am Destined to Crash Your Wedding
The old man looked at him, laughing heartily yet helplessly. "You two... what is anyone supposed to say?"
He sighed and looked at Leona Grant, asking coolly, "Is there really no reason for you to go?"
Leona Grant nodded.
Patrick Grant walked over, stroked his hair, and said kindly, "Then Grandpa will find a reason for you."
Leona Grant looked up at him.
Patrick Grant exhaled. A glint flashed in his eyes as he spoke, his mind seemingly made up. "Do you know why Grandpa has always been so insistent on you two having a child?"
Leona Grant looked at his grandfather, confused. "I don’t know."
’Anyway, ever since the first day he and Annabelle Linton were married, his grandfather had never stopped talking about having a child.’
’At first, he’d found it annoying, but later he came to regret it.’
’If he had listened to his grandfather, if he and Annabelle Linton had a child now, maybe he could still use the child to keep her from leaving.’
’Now, he didn’t have a single reason.’
Patrick Grant pursed his lips and said in a low, serious voice, "Leona, in your position, you’ve long grown accustomed to the filth and unpredictability of human nature. You know full well how many people are coveting the Grant Family’s status from the shadows... Let me be honest with you. There’s something wrong with your body."
Leona Grant’s eyes widened. He stared at his grandfather in disbelief, unable to process what he had just heard.
Patrick Grant sighed. "A long time ago, there was someone who hated our Grant Family to the bone. When you were little, he took advantage of a moment when our guard was down and injected you with an unknown drug... There is something wrong with your reproductive organs. No woman can conceive your child. And even if one could, the baby would have deformities. His goal was for the Grant Family line to end with you..."
Patrick Grant took a folded paper from his pocket and handed it to him, his voice grave. "Take a look."
Leona Grant took the paper, still in a state of shock.
’It detailed every aspect of his physical condition. He... his reproductive organs... they really were damaged...’
Reading this, Leona Grant was beginning to understand.
But he still couldn’t stop himself from asking, "Grandpa, what are you trying to tell me? That because Annabelle Linton has the same blood type as me, she’s the only one who can conceive a healthy child of mine? That she’s the only one who can carry on the Grant Family line?"
After saying this, Leona Grant suddenly remembered something.
’It was back when Annabelle Linton had just begun to change. His parents had returned from abroad, and he and Annabelle had held a welcome dinner for them.’
’At the dinner table, his grandfather had told him and Annabelle Linton to have a child. They had deflected, saying that children were a matter of fate.’
’His grandfather had then suddenly suggested they try IVF if all else failed.’
’At the time, he’d found it laughable. Was Annabelle Linton the only woman under the sun who could bear children?’
’He never imagined that there really *was* only one woman who could!’
’Grandpa must have already known everything when he said that!’
’No wonder he’d been so fond of Annabelle Linton, saying she was the most suitable wife in the world for him.’
’He hadn’t thought much of it at the time, but who knew the words ran so deep!’
Patrick Grant remained silent.
Leona Grant shot to his feet, his voice filled with a mixture of clear shock and... excitement. "Grandpa, hurry up and tell me!"
Patrick Grant pursed his lips and gave a faint sound of affirmation.
Leona Grant immediately bolted for the door, not even caring when he knocked his leg against the corner of the coffee table in his haste.
’He didn’t care if there was actually something wrong with his body. It wouldn’t even matter if his grandfather was lying to him right now.’
’All he wanted was a reason!’
’This was perfect. It was absolutely perfect.’
’He finally had a reason to go find Annabelle Linton!’
’He was the sole heir of the Grant Family; the family line couldn’t end with him!’
’Annabelle Linton, it seems I’m destined to crash your wedding!’
