Chapter 463: Chapter 462: You Get Married, I Get Married (1)
Leona Grant stared at her. When she didn’t say anything, he started to worry that something terrible had happened. A desperate look slowly spread across his face. "Then tell me... is she married yet?"
He only wanted to know if she was still alive.
As long as she was alive, he didn’t care if she’d already had children.
He needed her to be alive.
Hearing this, Ashley Grant began to cry, heartbroken.
’The wedding is in a little over ten days. Isn’t this going to be the death of my brother?’
She covered her mouth and turned away.
Leona Grant coughed anxiously, his mind still too hazy to distinguish dream from reality. Seeing the looks on his family’s faces, he assumed Annabelle Linton was truly dead.
’But I jumped off a building too. Didn’t I die?’
Leona Grant’s eyes suddenly went red. His expression changed in an instant as he demanded frantically, "Tell me... COUGH, COUGH... What happened to Annabelle Linton?!"
"She’s going to..."
Looking at her brother’s desperate state, tears streamed down Ashley Grant’s face. But she had no choice but to tell him the truth. "She’s... she’s getting married..."
Leona Grant suddenly grew quiet, as if sighing in relief.
Then, after a moment of stunned silence, he passed out again.
The color drained from everyone’s faces as they assumed he’d passed out from the shock.
After an examination, the doctor announced that he was no longer in critical condition. He had simply fainted from exhaustion. With plenty of rest to recuperate, he would be fine.
Hearing this, they all sighed once more.
’He really must be exhausted.’
’Just how much do you have to care about someone to have their name constantly on your lips and their face in your mind’s eye, whether you’re awake or asleep?’
’It was impossible to understand.’
...
The world is a strange place.
The endless cycles of life and nature affect everyone differently, bringing unique experiences and outcomes. It’s as if to remind us that the world treats no two people the same.
Some people might break a bone from a simple fall, or even slip into a coma from which they never wake.
And then there are others who, even if beaten half to death, can bounce right back the next day as long as they’re still breathing.
Leona Grant was probably one of the latter.
The knife wounds had been slowly healing during the twenty-odd days he was in a coma. As for the car crash... it was nothing serious.
After a week in the hospital, he was discharged.
After he was discharged, the family sat together for a meal.
He announced that he was getting married... to Annabelle Ainsworth.
His words were met with a long, heavy silence at the dinner table.
’Annabelle... Annabelle Ainsworth...’
’What was there to say?’
’It felt like anything they said would be wrong.’
’Urge him to give it up? But everyone knew he could never be happy without Annabelle Linton, and she was never coming back.’
’Support him? But marriage isn’t a game...’
Patrick Grant stared at him for a while and asked calmly, "Have you really thought this through?"
Leona Grant kept his head down, eating, not pausing for even a second as he replied flatly, "I have."
’There was nothing to think about. Since he wasn’t marrying the one he loved most, it didn’t matter who the bride was.’
Patrick Grant watched him for another long moment, taking in his grandson’s gaunt frame and cold, impassive profile before sighing.
He looked at Leona, finally setting down his bowl and chopsticks. He spoke with heartfelt gravity, "Leona, you’re a grown man now. Your grandfather trusts your judgment. So, no matter what you decide, the family will give you our fullest support, because we believe in you.
Ultimately, it’s your life to live. We can’t interfere. At most, we can only offer our advice and suggestions when you’re lost or at a low point. So tell your grandfather, why do you want to get married now?"
"No reason. I just feel like it."
He was putting on quite an act.
