Chapter 407: Chapter 407: No One Had Ever Stayed With Him for So Long

Leona Grant was completely unmoved by the lively atmosphere. Xylas Shepherd and the others left him alone and went to wander elsewhere.

He sat on a distant bench, his gaze lowered, staring blankly at the carousel in the distance.

Whenever Annabelle Linton came to the amusement park, that was the only ride she would go on—the only one she dared to. He remembered it was right after they got married; they had taken a photo together here. She posted it to her social media, and their friends teased them about it for a long time.

But back then, he had felt so embarrassed to be associated with her that he’d given her the cold shoulder. ’I wonder if that photo still exists?’

Leona Grant took out his phone and started scrolling through Annabelle Linton’s social media feed. He searched for a long, long time but couldn’t find it.

He had a rough idea of the date, which should have made it easier to find, but it was still nowhere to be seen.

Unwilling to give up, he went back and scrolled through all of her old posts again.

But the more he looked, the sadder he became.

Annabelle Linton’s feed was filled with nothing but inspirational words. It was all so optimistic, so cheerful, with a new post updated about every two days.

Reading between the lines, it was clear she must have been deeply wronged back then...

Leona Grant scrolled stiffly, and with each flick of his thumb, the bitterness in his heart grew stronger.

Just as he was reading through Annabelle Linton’s posts one by one, the entire amusement park was suddenly plunged into darkness.

The rides, of course, remained lit; only the park’s streetlights had been turned off.

Murmurs of curiosity and complaint rippled through the crowd.

WHOOSH, WHOOSH, WHOOSH!

Just then, streams of fireworks shot into the air, bursting into beautiful, multicolored floral patterns and various other shapes across the sky.

The entire sky was filled with them. As far as the eye could see, there was nothing but fireworks—a breathtaking sight.

"Wow! Mommy, look! Mommy, look! Fireworks!" an excited child shouted, tugging on his mother’s hand.

"Wow, they’re so pretty! Just gorgeous..."

WHOOSH, WHOOSH!

"Yeah, hurry, take pictures! Take pictures!"

WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

Wave after wave of fireworks exploded across the sky, each more beautiful than the last. The amusement park, full of complaints just moments ago, was now buzzing with excitement.

Amid the boisterous atmosphere, Leona Grant surprisingly found himself missing Annabelle Linton even more, because Annabelle loved fireworks.

Leona Grant remembered the way Annabelle Linton’s eyes would light up like stars when she watched fireworks, and the corners of his lips curved up slightly.

Most of his memories in this life, he realized, were probably with her.

Whether they were unhappy or unpleasant, no one had ever stayed by his side for so long. Not even his parents.

As Leona Grant watched, a figure suddenly entered his line of sight, and he froze.

Annabelle Linton was holding a drink, gazing wistfully at the fireworks in the sky, a familiar smile playing on her lips.

The brilliant fireworks illuminated her delicate features. She watched them without blinking, the usual coldness and distance melting from her face. In their place was the pure innocence of a little girl, the curve of her lips exceptionally captivating.

Annabelle Linton loved the color white. Her closet was filled almost exclusively with white clothes and dresses, making her look pure and noble.

Today, she wore a long white dress. As the wind rustled its hem, she looked utterly ethereal.

Leona Grant stared at her, mesmerized, as his vision began to blur.

Suddenly, a huge commotion erupted up ahead, and people began to surge in that direction.

Leona Grant saw a woman grab Annabelle Linton and start running toward it.

He instinctively followed.

"Come on, come on, Annabelle! Let’s go see what’s happening! Let’s go!" Tiana Taylor said, pulling Annabelle Linton toward the crowd.
