Chapter 373: Chapter 371: Take My Hand
Annabelle Linton was utterly speechless.
’Actually, given Leona Grant’s foul temper, he definitely would have shot that nosy woman a cold glance and told her to get lost.’
’He was trying to win his wife back, so what business was it of hers?’
But in the end, he gazed affectionately at Annabelle Linton and said with gentlemanly flair, "No, thank you. I will only ever love my wife in this lifetime. She’s the only one I’ll ever marry."
The girl was so charmed, her knees practically gave out.
She would probably spend the rest of her life seeing Leona Grant as her ideal man.
Annabelle Linton: "..."
She had to admit she was disgusted. She turned her head and stared at him, speechless.
Leona Grant kissed her on the lips and said affectionately, "That’s right. You’re the only one I’ll ever marry."
Annabelle Linton: "..."
Everyone around them was looking at Leona Grant as if he were the perfect "Loyal Dog" husband, while they only had eyes of envy, jealousy, and resentment for Annabelle Linton.
Annabelle Linton had the sudden urge to dump all the coffee on his face.
If she weren’t currently trapped in his arms, she swore she would have done it!
"Let me go."
"I won’t."
"What on earth do you want?"
"To remarry."
Annabelle Linton fell silent for a moment. "Fine."
Leona Grant thought he was hearing things. His eyes widened as he looked at Annabelle Linton in delighted surprise. "You agree?"
"You agree to remarry me?"
He shook Annabelle Linton forcefully in his excitement, rattling her so much she felt dizzy. "Say it! Do you really agree?"
"Can you let go of me first?" Annabelle Linton said with a frown.
Leona Grant glanced at her and let her go, but his hand still held hers. "Now, say it."
"Young lady, just say yes to him! Where are you going to find a husband this good?"
"Yeah, and you two even have a child. You should stick together for the kid’s sake! Besides, it’s not like your husband committed some terrible crime, right? Listen to an old auntie’s advice—don’t get hung up on the little things. That’s no way to live."
"That’s right, where else would you find a husband this good..."
The crowd of onlookers quickly switched sides, all of them speaking up for Leona Grant.
Leona Grant silently wiped away a bitter tear in his heart.
Ever since that older woman at the Civil Affairs Bureau, he’d been traumatized by women over forty.
’Then again, maybe there is still some good in the world. The legacy of five thousand years of history has its ups and downs. This just goes to show you can’t judge a whole group by one bad apple.’
He looked at Annabelle Linton expectantly, waiting for her answer. "Hurry up and say it."
’Say what, my ass!’
’I hadn’t even finished what I was saying.’
’What I wanted to say was, *can you get lost now?*’
’I have a boyfriend!’
Annabelle Linton looked into Leona Grant’s expectant, excited eyes.
’She had to admit she was lying to him, but did she have any other choice?’
’If she didn’t lie, would he let her go? He was the one harassing her.’
Annabelle Linton knitted her brows and said uncomfortably, "I can think about it."
’But the answer won’t change.’
A flicker of disappointment crossed Leona Grant’s eyes, but he knew this was still an opportunity for him. At the very least, this was the biggest concession Annabelle Linton had ever made.
’Tonight’s events... he had forced her hand.’
’If he pushed any further, Annabelle Linton would start to hate him, and that wasn’t the outcome he wanted.’
"Okay." Leona Grant smiled at her—a smile that was part innocent, part endearing. Annabelle Linton had never seen this side of him before.
In fact, in her two lifetimes, she had never seen a Leona Grant like the one tonight.
Never.
Leona Grant held out a hand to Annabelle Linton and said coaxingly, "Hold my hand."
Annabelle Linton pressed her lips together, looking at him with a complicated expression.
Leona Grant looked back at her, his hand still outstretched, not lowering it.
