Chapter 1648: 1648. Thick-skinned

She plunged her finger into the expensive wine beside her. After a moment, she suddenly laughed, not knowing what she thought of.

An image of a person’s face flashed through her mind, handsome and elegant, exuding an air of restraint, cold and indifferent, yet always catering to her needs.

To call him a lover was too mundane; to call him a friend was too distant. It was a blend of kinship, friendship, and romance.

It was still him who understood her.

He said she wasn’t suitable for Adam Jones, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t change the outcome.

Adam didn’t stay long in Germany. After clearly stating things to Johnson Fefferman, whether the matter should end perfectly was up to Johnson herself.

The reason he personally went to Germany to meet Johnson was because of the favor Lisa Fefferman did for the Jones Family all those years ago. On the other hand, he believed Lisa Fefferman wasn’t someone so foolish as to only understand love.

On the third day after Adam returned to Germany, all of Johnson’s actions indeed came to a halt.

"She is indeed smarter than those naive women you’ve had around you before."

Elly Campbell commented to Adam Jones upon seeing the result.

"Are you implying that my personal charm only attracts foolish women?"

Adam raised an eyebrow and asked with a smile.

"Not at all. I’m quite smart, aren’t I?"

She boasted shamelessly, without even a hint of blushing.

After being with Island Master Jones for so long, she thought her face might have run away and couldn’t find its way back.

"Thick-skinned!"

"It’s for you! It’s not like I want people to think you can only attract brainless fools, right?"

Adam Jones: "..."

The wife makes a good point.

The couple playfully bantered for a while until Elly Campbell heard Adam ask about Helen Melendy, "Are you still investigating who poisoned Helen Melendy?"

"Of course, but I’ve checked everyone I’m suspicious of, and there’s no clue."

"A few days ago, Robin Carter investigated Johnson and found a connection to Edward Smith of the Smith Group. He discovered someone is watching Helen Melendy."

Adam relayed the news Robin brought back to Elly.

Elly was initially surprised to hear about the Smith Group because she hadn’t thought that Helen’s situation would be linked to the Smith Group.

It was an association that seemed completely unrelated. How did they get entangled together?

"I’ve already asked Robin to keep an eye on the Smith side. If it’s really someone from the Smith Family, it won’t be easy to investigate."

Adam’s voice brought Elly back to her thoughts.

Elly nodded. After facing so much despair, even the smallest clue was a hopeful sign for her. She didn’t dare to hope for too much.

"I understand. Having a lead is good. Let Robin investigate slowly, and don’t alert them unnecessarily."

"Okay."

Just as Elly was waiting for Robin’s investigation results, someone called her.

"Leo Hall?"

Elly was a bit surprised to hear this long-unheard name.

Since William Hall was sentenced, and Harry Hall took control of the Hall Clan, after Leo and his mother lost this family power struggle, Elly hadn’t seen Leo Hall.

And it seemed Mia Brown had also suffered a significant blow, and she hadn’t appeared in public for a long time. Mother and son seemed to have vanished from public gossip overnight.

So, when Elly received the call from Leo Hall at this moment, her face showed a few traces of undeniable surprise.

"Sister-in-law, I’m so glad you remember me."
