Chapter 483: Chapter 483 - Unique Monster(Part 4)
"Okay, your System has the Item Box and Info Bank functions, but it looks like you’ll need to use your points to get the Entertainment, World Map and Record functions. They’re pretty costly, though," I mused, as I went through her System display.
"Yeah, since you already have those functions, it’d be a waste of points to buy them. Especially since you can open multiple screens and share your Entertainment function with me," Celes nodded thoughtfully.
It was the next day, late in the afternoon. After we finally got back to the cave, we celebrated with alcohol, weed and an anime binge, after which she initiated a long, steamy makeout session.
The fatigue soon hit us and we went to sleep, waking up a bit past midday. We then had some food, before Celes decided to sort out her System and pick her abilities.
"Alright, so you’re fine with leaving your System as is?"
"Yeah, I think so," She replied, before adding, "I don’t know which abilities I should pick, though. There’s so many options, I don’t even know where to start."
"Well, you have the Regeneration, Immortality and Appraisal Skills by default. Immortality isn’t foolproof though, it’s game over if your Core is destroyed. Oh, you should go with Total Immunity, it’ll make you immune to poisons and other status effects. While those can’t kill you thanks to Immortality, they will weaken you and leave you vulnerable, so Total Immunity is a must-have, if you ask me," I advised her.
"No arguments here, I’ll go for it," She smiled, as she picked the ability.
"You should also go with Physical Prowess, that’ll make your body and senses a lot stronger," I suggested.
"Got it. Okay, based on my remaining points, I think I can pick two or three more Skills...I want one that’ll let me use lightning again," She muttered, as she scrolled through the options.
After turning into a Unique Monster, she lost her Lightning Magic. She’s got a massive pool of Mana now, but until she finishes picking her new abilities, she has no way to use it.
"Use the search bar on top, that should help filter the options," I remarked, pointing near the top of her display.
"Huh? Oh, I didn’t even see that! Okay, lightning...nice, looks like there’s several options. No, wait, I think these ones that cost less points are just singular attacks, that’s not good enough. Hm? Hey, look at this one, Larrk! This looks good!"
"Let’s see...the Black Lightning Skill. According to the description, it lets you generate and control black lightning, which is more powerful than regular lightning. No cooldowns or limits, so it must work like my Blue Flame Skill. It costs a lot of points, though," I replied as I took a look at the option.
"I know, but...I feel like my heart is already set on it, I really want to go for it," She grinned sheepishly.
"Then go for it," I smiled, patting her head.
"Okay!" She nodded eagerly, as she selected it.
"Alright, looking at your remaining balance, you’ve got enough points for either one strong Skill or two weaker ones. From what we’ve seen, though, the options that cost less points aren’t all that useful. Let’s use the sort and filter function to narrow down the options."
"Mhm, sounds good."
I then filtered out all the options that she no longer had enough points for, before sorting them by most expensive to least.
"Just go through the options and take note of the ones that catch your eye, then you can narrow them down and go with the one you feel most-...," I began.
"Ooh, this one! I’m going with this!" She declared, as she selected her final new Skill.
"Oh, Flight, huh? Nice, that’s a good one," I smiled in response, as she finalized her selections and confirmed.
"W-Woah...this feels weird. I’m getting this...this instinctive feeling, something’s changing in me, it feels unfamiliar yet natural at the same time. It’s kinda disconcerting...," She muttered in bemusement.
Oh, yeah, when I reincarnated, I had an instinctive understanding of how to use my abilities. I didn’t really think about it much, for two reasons. The first being that all my abilities were pretty similar to the abilities I had in my previous life, and the second of course, was the fact that I was deep in the mire of a crippling depression.
"How do you feel?" I asked her, as her new abilities finished settling in.
"It’s hard to put it into words, but...I definitely feel good," She remarked, as sparks of black lightning crackled around her hand, before she stood up and formed a mass of lightning in her palm.
I followed her as she headed to the entrance of the cave, before she fired the lightning at a nearby tree, a sharp blast ringing out as her attack slammed against the trunk, thick wisps of smoke billowing out upon impact, as a deep, scorched hole appeared in the side of the tree.
"Okay, yeah, that’s definitely way stronger than your Lightning Magic was," I remarked in bemusement.
"Yeah, I’ll say. But...it doesn’t look like I can use Electro-Velocity anymore. I can generate lightning but I can’t channel it inside my body," She sighed in disappointment.
"Hm...try running at full speed. The Physical Prowess Skill might be enough to make up for that loss," I suggested thoughtfully.
"Oh, good point. Let’s test it out," She replied, hopping a couple of times to loosen up, before she shot forward, my eyes widening.
Holy shit, she’s fast! She’s slightly faster than she was with her Electro-Velocity Spell, and on top of that, this is just her natural speed now, not a temporary speed boost she can use for just a few minutes at a time.
"That was awesome," I smiled as she came running back, a gleam in her eyes.
"Yeah, I don’t know if that was faster than my previous top speed, but I felt like I had a lot more control. That must be because Physical Prowess boosts my senses too, it actually didn’t feel like I was going that fast, until I noticed how much ground I’d covered," She grinned excitedly.
"Mhm, you had to strain your senses before to keep up with your speed boost, but now that your perception is sharper, you senses can keep up with your speed. Also, you are faster now, not by a drastic amount, but you’re definitely hitting speeds that you couldn’t before."
"For real? Cool! This is fun, I wanna test out the rest of my new abilities too!"
