Chapter 460: Chapter 460 - Lowly Humans
"Huh, that’s pretty good. It does still feel weird that I crave food even though I never actually feel hungry," I muttered to myself, as I munched on some berries.
Two months had passed since I left the Dungeon after my battle against those Adventurers, I’d headed to a forest and found a cave to hide out in for the time being.
I feel like my mood has been steadily improving recently. I’m still far from over everything I lost when I died in my previous world, I don’t think I’ll ever truly get over it, but at the very least, I’m starting to somewhat accept it now.
After the Adventurers I spared left, I followed them using one of the features of my System, called World Map. In addition to giving me a map of this world, I can also view live feeds of any location on the map by zooming in.
I used that to follow the Adventurers back to their city after they left the Dungeon, to make sure they’d keep quiet about me. And sure enough, they did, they reported the story I’d made up and didn’t make any mention of me.
For about a month and a half after that, I wallowed in the cave I’d found, doing pretty much nothing and just letting the days pass by listlessly.
About two weeks ago, I started to feel a bit restless, and decided to go through my new abilities and familiarize myself with them.
Physically, I have immense strength and speed, as well as near-unlimited regeneration. So long as the Core in my head is intact, and I have enough Mana, I can regenerate pretty much any injury.
And I seem to have a massive amount of Mana, along with a high Mana recovery rate, it would be pretty difficult to exhaust my Mana supply with how fast it replenishes.
I also have my tail, wings and the ability to transform my hands into daggers. I did try testing it out against some Monsters, but every Monster I came across either ran away or surrendered to me, and I didn’t want to attack something that wasn’t going to fight back, so I let them be.
To continue, I have the Passive Skill, Total Immunity, which I already mentioned as working more or less the same as the Universal Resistance Skill in my previous life.
Next, there’s Magic Eater, which is pretty much the same as my old Magic Eater Skill, though the sensation when it consumes Spells feels a bit different.
I also have a Skill called Venom, which lets me secrete a powerful venom from my fangs and blades. By controlling its potency, its effects can range from simple paralysis to a somewhat slow-acting lethal toxin.
Then there’s the Blue Flames Skill, apparently the hottest flames that can be conjured with Magic in this world, and it’s unique to me at the moment. It’s not as powerful as Dragon Fire, but it doesn’t need to be...despite the destructive power of Dragon Fire, being forced to extinguish it every time I cast it was a real pain.
I also have the Monster Communication Skill, which is pretty much identical to the Monster/Magical Beast Thought Communication I had in my previous life.
But just like in my previous life, most Monsters aren’t intelligent enough to have complex conversations with though, anything more than simple statements or commands just confuses them. Though, most Monsters don’t stick around to listen to what I have to say, they run away on sight.
Then there’s the Appraisal Skill, which I didn’t have in my previous life. In addition to showing me a target’s Rank and Magic Class, it also shows me their personal information, which I made good use of in scaring the surviving Adventurers that attacked me.
It’s not just their names, age, gender and stuff like that though, there’s an option to see their personal information in more detail, which basically gives me their entire backstory, even stuff like likes and dislikes.
The results of Appraisal are a lot simpler with Monsters, they have Ranks but no Magic Classes, and they don’t have names, so the only other information I see are their ages and genders.
And finally, the System, which comes with a wide range of sub-Skills, organized into tabs. The first tab is Item Box, it has a hundred slots, along with the option to preserve the stored items.
It’s empty at the moment, though, I haven’t come across anything worth storing, and I don’t have any belongings. My clothes are kinda like hair or fingernails, except that I can control them, I can change how they look and stuff just by thinking about it.
The second tab is the Info Bank, it’s got a ton of information about this world, I’ve gone through some of it, but I got bored after I covered everything that’s relevant to me.
The third tab is Entertainment, it’s got a near-endless list of shows, movies, anime and video games from both my previous lives. For games, it creates a projection of a controller that resembled the joysticks of the corresponding console.
If it’s a game that’s on multiple consoles, I can choose which joystick to project. And if it’s a PC game, the System projects a keyboard and mouse instead.
And finally, the World Map tab. In addition to viewing any location on the map of this world, I can also record whatever I’m viewing, and that function also lets record what I’m seeing in real life.
Like, if I see something cool that I might want to view again later, I can just record it and save the footage.
I’m glad the Goddess went through the trouble of customizing my new abilities based on my preferences...with the state of mind I was in before reincarnating here, I didn’t have the energy or motivation to put any real thought or effort into customizing my abilities myself.
Well, anyway...for the foreseeable future, I’ll probably just continue to laze about in this cave. Since I’m a Monster, I can’t just go waltzing into a human settlement, they’re bound to attack me on sight.
And the fact that there are no other Unique Monsters in this nation at present, can only mean that the Adventurers here are capable of killing them.
My new body may be powerful, but it’s not invincible, and I’m not about to let myself get overconfident. I’d be lying if I said a part of me didn’t miss fighting, but I’m not so bloodthirsty that I’d go out and attack people who I have no grudge against.
Just because I’m a Monster now, doesn’t mean that I’m going to act like one. I’ll defend myself if provoked, but otherwise, I won’t attack anyone-...hm?
My train of thought was cut off as a loud scream of pain rang out, not too far from the cave. That was definitely a human, sounded like a woman.
I should probably ignore it. But, well...I am kinda curious to see what’s going on. It’s not like I’ve got anything to lose by checking it out.
I then got up and headed for the entrance of the cave, peeking out curiously. I spotted an injured woman slumped against a tree, trembling in pain as she glared defiantly at her assailants.
A group of four, three men and a woman, looming over her. I could sense their bloodlust and malice, but no anger or rage...there’s no real grudge or sense of vengeance amongst them, they seem to just want to kill her for the sake of it.
"Y-You bastards...," Growled the injured woman.
"Heh, not so tough now, are you, bitch?" Smirked one of the men.
"Hey, we don’t have to kill her right away, do we? Come on, let’s have some fun first."
"No objections here, I’d love to see what kind of expression this high and mighty whore makes while she’s being violated," Chuckled the woman among the assailants.
"Sounds good to me. She may be insufferable, but she is damn attractive, it’d be a waste to kill her without making full use of this opportunity."
Wow...what generic, stereotypical scum. Don’t think I ever encountered such over-the-top, almost comical evil in my previous world.
Now, Appraisal...huh, the injured woman is S-Rank, the other woman and two of the men are A-Rank, and the third guy is B-Rank.
Hm? Huh, the screen showing the Appraisal of the injured woman has a detail I haven’t seen before...’poisoned’. Oh, I get it, I can also see any active status effects.
The S-Ranked woman has Lightning Magic. The other woman has Explosion Magic...that didn’t exist in my old world, but it sounds pretty self-explanatory, it’s probably similar to that one Elder Vampire’s Unique Ability, not that I ever saw it for myself.
Anyway, as for the rest of them, the B-Ranked guy has Wind Magic, and the A-Ranks have Earth Magic and Healing Magic.
This doesn’t really concern me, but ignoring it will leave a bad taste in my mouth, so I guess I’ll help. Hm...might as well have some fun with it while I’m at it.
The B-Rank then stepped towards the injured woman, reaching for his belt with a lustful look on his face, before suddenly turning his gaze to the left as a pale blue, fiery glow burst out, as I unleashed a blast of blue flames towards him.
His eyes widened in alarm as he frantically tried to scramble out of the way, before crying out in pain as my attack struck him and set his entire body ablaze, before he collapsed onto his knees as his screams faded, falling over and hitting the ground with a thud.
The injured woman stared in bewilderment, before turning her gaze towards me, the others staring at the charred remains of their comrade in shock.
"Wh-What just happened?"
"I-I don’t know. One second, he was just standing there, and the next, he was on fire!"
"What the hell-...?"
"You dare cause such commotion in my presence, lowly humans? Your worthless lives won’t be enough to make up for such insolence, but seeing as you have nothing of greater value to offer, I suppose I shall have to make do," I remarked in a deep, booming voice.
Hm...okay, maybe that was a bit too dramatic.
