Chapter 447: Chapter 447 - Twenty-Four Hours

"What? Just one day?"

"Yes, that’s right. After that, I can reincarnate you into a different world."

"But that’s-...wait, what happened to Azazel and Plasmuk!? I don’t hear them in my head anymore, are they...?" I trailed off in dread.

"Well, since their consciousnesses were intertwined with you, they are essentially dead too. However, since their souls originated in this world, and I do agree that this turn of events has been rather unfair to you, I can make an exception and give them new bodies."

"I see...that’s good, at least. So, I can have one more day in this world, huh? Is there really no way to stay longer?" I asked her, as I started to accept the reality of the situation.

After all this time, I, of all people, should know just how unfair life can be.

"No, there is not."

"Okay, then...I guess there’s no point in complaining, that isn’t going to change reality. Alright...one day it is."

"Very well, I’ll see you again in twenty-four hours."

Everything then began to get brighter and brighter, the glow of the space blinding as I found my eyes getting forced shut...

"Larrk? Is...is that you?"

Huh?

I slowly opened my eyes, blinking a couple of times as rays of sunlight met my gaze, before looking around as my eyes adjusted. I felt a lump in my throat as the familiar faces of my friends entered my line of sight...this is my last day with them, and after that, I’ll...I’ll never see them again...

"What the...? My body, it’s back...," Suddenly came Azazel’s voice.

"Hey, mine too. And my core is as good as new!" Came Plasmuk’s voice.

As I turned my gaze towards them, I found myself getting knocked onto the ground as Argent rushed towards me and tackled me in a hug. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

"I...I thought you were gone! Thank goodness you’re alright!" He cried, as I smiled slightly and patted his shoulder.

"Yeah, we really thought you were dead...but what happened? I mean, your body is over there, and your scent is a bit different," Chimed in Izzy, as she walked over.

"And how are we back in our bodies? After all, our bodies vanished when we formed Contracts with you, so this shouldn’t even be possible," Remarked Azazel in bemusement, as Plasmuk slithered around the ground.

"Does it really matter? It just feels good to be able to move about again!"

"What is going on? Are you really Larrk Stryker? This doesn’t make sense...," Frowned Satan.

"Yeah, it’s me," I replied, sitting up as Argent let go of, before adding, "But, well...I did die. The fact that I’m here now is something of a miracle...I can only remain here for twenty-four hours. Oh, but Azazel and Plasmuk are back for good...once I’m gone, I’m counting on you two to take care of things in my place."

"Huh? But, I don’t understand, why can you not remain here?" Responded Azazel with a perplexed look on his face.

"I have no idea what’s going on here," Remarked Plasmuk, while the others looked on with confused expressions too.

Right...I guess I’ll need to explain everything to them.

I then told them everything, the fact that my soul originated in another world being the reason why the Balancer targeted me specifically, and how he’d succeeded in killing me.

How the Goddess let me come back to this world for one day, so that I could say goodbye to everyone, and how she’d agreed to give Azazel and Plasmuk new bodies.

"Yeah, that about covers everything. And it looks like I can’t use Magic or any other powers in this temporary body. Not that that matters, I have no need for them anymore, I-..."

"What...what the hell? That’s not fair! After everything that’s happened, everything we’ve been through...it can’t end like this!" Protested Argent indignantly, a dismayed look on his face.

"I said the same thing...but there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s over for me, my life in this world has come to an end. And, well, I am lucky to have gotten this opportunity to come back at all...most people never get to say goodbye before they die. So, at least I have that," I replied with a wistful smile.

"But...you can’t just leave us. Most of us probably wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for you. Father and the others would likely still be sealed away, Arcadia would never have been created, and the Vampires probably would have killed everyone. Everything would be so much worse if it wasn’t for you...so, you can’t leave after all that, you can’t!" Spoke up Izzy as she grabbed my arm, her eyes glistening.

"I think you’re giving me way too much credit there. Still, if my actions in this world managed to make a lasting impact, that’s pretty cool. It’ll be nice...to be remembered. Take care of Argent for me, would ya, sis?" I smiled as I patted her shoulder, before adding wryly, "Hm...yeah, that still feels a bit weird."

"So, that’s it, then? By this time tomorrow, you’ll be gone, never to be seen again?" Frowned Satan, a bitter look on his face.

"Yeah, not in this world, anyway. Alright, I’m on a tight schedule here, so I’d like to make the most of what time I’ve got left! Hm, let’s see...oh, I know, I’ll spend time with everyone one-on-one, and then, for the last couple of hours before my time is up, let’s throw a big party or something!" I suggested with a grin, pushing my emotions down as I did my best to keep my cool...
