Chapter 410: Chapter 410 - Minimize our Losses
"I’ll cut straight to the point...we’ll be attacking the Light Continent and wipe out the Vampires in ten days. Any objections?" I inquired, looking around.
It was the next day, the 11th of Quintilis, 2021, late in the evening, and a meeting had just begun, to discuss our next move.
All the major players in Arcadia were in attendance, along with representatives from the other nations.
"No objections here. We must strike back as soon as possible, we cannot give them the chance to attack us again. We lost many innocent lives in the battle yesterday, I refuse to allow any more civilians to be put in danger," Stated Landis without hesitation.
"Y-yes, I agree as well, the Vampire forces have been weakened, we must take advantage of that," Spoke up the representative from Agate.
"That would be the most sensible move," Nodded Onyx’s representative in agreement.
"Uh, isn’t ten days a bit too soon? Will that be enough time to prepare?" Chimed in Zircon’s representative.
"No, I think it’s enough time...after all, we have a lot more information about the enemy now. Most notably, we can be reasonably certain that there are only four Elder Vampires left. It’s highly probable that the seven who attacked us were all the remaining Elder Vampires...and since we’ve confirmed that three of them were killed, that just leaves four. Not only that, but we also know their identities and Unique Abilities.
Jagger, with the Unique Ability Senescence, which allows him to rapidly age anything he touches. Lavinia, with the Unique Ability Poison Blood, which is pretty self-explanatory. Then there’s Caera, with the particularly dangerous Unique Ability Blood Clones, which allows her to create upto twelve clones. And finally, the Vampire King Dracula, his Unique Ability, Absolute Command, is easily the most frightening of them all.
We’ll group up our heavy hitters against these four, based on favorable match ups, while the rest of our forces keep the Vampires and Lesser Vampires occupied. Our goal is simple, to wipe out every last one of them and eliminate the threat of Vampires from the world," I stated.
Still, while the Vampire forces were significantly weakened, we suffered significant losses of our own in this battle. Among the Demons, Aratron was killed by the Elder Vampire Jagger, and had the Vampires not retreated when they did, Pavorphobus would likely have been killed too, by her own admission.
And among the Dragon Kings, we lost Liquaqua, and Frielektra is effectively out of the equation after forming a Contract with Argent. We also lost Oberr and Arofri among the Demi-Human Elders, not to mention Mysst...Ilex was in a state of shock until earlier today, when that shock gave way to a seething rage and hatred.
He’s definitely out for blood, even if the Elder Vampire who killed her is already dead, he needs to direct those emotions somewhere. I should check on him later, the poor guy’s a ticking time bomb right now.
"Just because they’ve been significantly weakened does not mean we can afford to take them lightly, we cannot let ourselves get complacent and overconfident. They’re still serious threats, and while we may have a slight advantage now, this will still be a grueling battle," Pointed out Satan objectively.
"Yeah, no doubt about that. However, we just might have a way to further improve our odds...Lumena, have you made any progress with analyzing the moonlight barrier?" I inquired as I glanced at her.
Thanks to Frielektra managing to get ahold of one of those Magic Items, we’ve got the opportunity to create a working countermeasure against the moonlight barrier.
"Oh, I’ve made a lot of progress...I’ve already finished analyzing the formulation of the Magic Item, it turned out to be a lot more complex than I’d anticipated, it’s no wonder that my last counter Item didn’t work, but now that I know exactly how it works, it shouldn’t take me more than a couple of days to create a counter Magic Item that’ll work. I’d also like to take a bit more time to further analyze it in order to predict how it could be improved, that’ll let me anticipate any upgrades they might make to it and account for those improvements in my counter Item," She replied confidently.
Nice, that’s pretty damn encouraging to hear.
"Impressive work...without the moonlight barrier, they won’t be able to access their full power, they will be three times weaker than they would otherwise be. If we can ensure that, our victory will be all but assured," Remarked Terrastra with a nod of approval.
"Like Satan said, we shouldn’t get overconfident. Even without their full power, the Elder Vampires are still a threat, Dracula in particular," I replied with a grimace.
Honestly, we seriously lucked out that Dracula retreated before using the moonlight barrier...we were struggling against him even without it, I doubt we’d have fared particularly well if he’d unleashed his full power.
"If I may, I’d like to battle that bastard Jagger...I know he isn’t a good match up for me, but if the moonlight barrier is taken out of the equation, I’m certain that I can hold my own. I’ll make him pay...," Growled Pavorphobus, clenching her fists.
"We’ll decide on how to group up our forces against the Elder Vampires later, but I’ll keep your request in mind. While I can’t deny that it’s unrealistic to hope that we win this battle without any casualties, I’d at least like to minimize our losses. So I’d like to prioritize that when making our decisions," I replied after mulling it over.
"Yes, I agree wholeheartedly...we’ve suffered enough losses as it is," Nodded Satan with a grimace.
This is it...if we can win this battle, my ultimate goal will finally be in sight, a peaceful isekai life. The Elder Vampires are the last serious threat to that goal, so once they’re eliminated, there won’t be any significant obstacles left...at least, I hope not. Crap, I better not have just jinxed myself...
