Chapter 510: Forced Into Action
"DAMNED DWARF! YOU DARE!?"
Hearing the loud yell from the female necromancer in charge of the vast undead army, Verdell could only smile wryly. Unable to explain that he wasn’t the one in control of the dragon beneath him, but instead, it was the dragon below him that was making the decisions of where they were moving.
To be honest, the entire situation had already spun completely out of control, as he had no idea how the two of them were going to get out of this situation. Only able to silently hope that the dragon beneath him had some idea of a plan, as both the mist serpent chasing them from behind and the angry necromancer up ahead were more than powerful enough to end the two of them with little to no effort. Especially the mist serpent closing in fast behind them.
Hm? Why is that one yelling so loudly?
Completely unaware of Verdell’s internal thoughts as he was struggling to stay composed in their current deadly situation, Scaly was instead curiously looking off in the direction of the loud female necromancer that had emerged from the core of the undead army to yell loudly towards the two of them.
[Human?, Necromancer (Crypt Guardian), lvl 199]
Inspecting this female necromancer that had popped her head out to start yelling, Scaly couldn’t help silently agreeing with the somewhat uncertain result of the other party’s race, as looking at this female necromancer, it was difficult to tell that the other party was truly still a human. Part of her body having already been stripped clean of flesh revealing the pure white bones beneath, while another side had seemingly mutated into some grotesque cancer-like blob attached to the side of her face.
To call her ugly would be a stain on the word, as this female necromancer was something difficult to describe with words, as even a dragon like Scaly found herself feeling a sense of profound disgust looking towards this female necromancer already in the process of channeling her mana into a powerful ball of darkness that would undoubtedly afflict whoever was hit with countless curses.
Even if she was confident, she wouldn’t die even if she ended up being hit by this terrifying looking bolt of darkness, she had no intention of just allowing the other party to hit her-
Whoosh~
Wasting no time as she dove downwards towards the horde of undead and skeletons below, out of sight of the female necromancer that could hardly be considered human any longer. Bringing Verdell along with her, as the dwarf on her back was already starting to feel dizzy from all the movement.
Luckily, this wasn’t his first time, so he managed to hold on and even looked rather dashing to the observing group of adventurers that had been left speechless watching everything so far. Looking like he was the one in control and made the move to dive down towards the horde of undead and skeletons below, an action that would undoubtedly be asking for death under normal circumstances.
But... With the lead necromancer busy conjuring up magic, she couldn’t react immediately to the sudden change and Scaly swept through the undead below without any of them moving to attack her. The previous command from allying with the monsters to fend off against the powerful mist serpent was still in effect. Allowing Scaly to take full advantage of the situation to close the distance between herself and the powerful necromancer even further.
[Gained 2143 Exp]
[Gained 6722 Exp]
[Gained 9032 Exp]
[Gained 7422 Exp]
[Gained 2222 Exp]
[Gained...]
Along the way, no small number of undead and skeletons ended up having their heads crushed by her as she passed by low. Making sure to take full advantage of the situation while the undead and skeletons below didn’t even put up the slightest defense against her to reap a large amount of experience that she personally felt she was owed considering her original goal for making her way to this battlefield having been robbed from her because of the sudden appearance of the mist serpent that seemingly wanted nothing more than to chase her down and kill her alongside the dwarf on her back.
Of course, her main goal for diving down into the horde of skeletons and undead wasn’t just to get closer to the lead necromancer that had been taken aback by her sudden dive, but more so to make this lead necromancer stand between her and the mist serpent.
After all, even though the mist serpent wouldn’t bother with this necromancer, it would still destroy anything in its path... And with the necromancer in its path, it would destroy the necromancer unless she decided to fight back and when she fought back, the mist serpent would then be forced to stop chasing after her and Scaly. Allowing the two of them to slip away and watch how things played out from afar.
In fact, her plans didn’t just end with having the necromancer leading the undead armies of the Eternal Life Sanctum in this assault on the dungeon core facing off against the mist serpent. Instead, this was only the beginning of her little plans, as she already foresaw the two sides grievously wounding one another during their confrontation. Giving her a perfect opportunity to jump in when both sides were injured to land the killing blow. Not only killing a powerful SS Rank Necromancer just about to reach level 200 but also killing a monster that had already surpassed the SS Rank!
Just the thought of the massive quantity of experience she would obtain upon successfully killing the two of them made her feel a sense of growing excitement that leaked out into a small, excited sound that made the dwarf on her back look a bit worried for the first time. Thinking something might be wrong.
Luckily for him, there was nothing wrong with her, as the two of them smoothly cut through the hordes of undead and skeletons before the leading necromancer had the chance to react and get those undead and skeletons to surround the two of them and stop them from getting any closer.
Swish-!
Sweeping past the leading necromancer with only a little under a hundred meters between the two of them. Avoiding the defensive perimeter formed around the necromancer herself made up of countless powerful undead and skeletons that Scaly understood full well she had no way to deal with at her current level-
RUUUUMBLE-!
Then again, while she might not have the strength to deal with the undead and skeletons surrounding the leading necromancer, the same couldn’t be said for the mist serpent, dweller of the deep mist, as this powerful monster that had already transcended the SS Rank was more than powerful enough to force its way through the defensive perimeter formed around the leading necromancer.
"CURSE YOU! DWARF! JUST YOU WAIT UNTILL THIS IS OVER!"
Ruuuumble~
And though she wanted nothing more than to tear apart Verdel and Scaly, she could only let out another string of foul curses as her attention was forced towards the massive serpent made entirely of mist rushing towards her. Even if she wanted to chase after the two, she also understood that her own mobility was nowhere near comparable to the two of them.
Not to mention, as the leading necromancer, she couldn’t just abandon the core of the undead army. Not just because it would weaken her control of the army itself, but also because it would ruin the carefully constructed plans, she had been working on to ensure she got her hands on the dungeon core, a crucial element for her to take another step forward as a necromancer.
The rumbling that had originally been quiet and undetectable. Almost soundless beneath her increased in both volume and effect on the surrounding environment began increasing to the point where even the mist serpent was forced to a stop as it sensed a deadly threat from the seemingly fragile looking necromancer before it.
"DAMN IT ALL! CURSE ALL OF YOU! RUINING MY PLANS!"
RUUUUUUUUUUUUMBLE-!
And with one final roar filled with anger, the ground beneath the leading necromancer split open, as a deathly purple miasma leaked out and spread through the air. Soon enough clashing directly with the mist of the mist serpent, causing the mist serpent to retreat slightly with a grave look on its face-
ROOOOOAR-!
Following which a loud roar erupted from the ground below, as a towering figure no smaller than the mist serpent emerged from below. The deathly purple miasma clashing against the mist of the mist serpent was part of it and seemed to wind around its frame. Concealing its true appearance from the world. Allowing those observing only a glimpse of the pale blue flames that represented its eyes within the purple miasma.
Still, one thing was for certain, this was another being that had surpassed the SS Rank and one that seemed stronger than the guardian dungeon construct under the control of the dungeon core.
