Chapter 492: Necromancers
Staring down towards the large army of living dead that was still over a dozen kilometers from their current location, Scaly’s gaze swept through the large army of undead and skeletons before locating the two leading individuals in charge of this undead legion.
[Human, Necromancer (Bone Carver), lvl 81]
[Human, Necromancer (Soul Weaver), lvl 127]
Seeing the necromancers of the Eternal Life Sanctum for the first time, though it was clear from the difference in level between the two which of the two was the true leader in charge of this army of undead beings.
But aside from this, one that was quite curious about the status of these two necromancers was the fact that their class was the same, but an extra title seemed to have been added behind this class.
Given that this was the first time she had experienced something like this before, it inevitably caused her attention to focus onto the necromancer part of the description.
[Necromancer]
[Description: A unique class created by those walking the death of becoming harbingers of death. Commanding vast armies of undead to do their bidding and wielding powerful dark magic and curse magic with more powerful necromancers gaining the ability to directly wield death magic and ice magic upon completing the final evolution.]
[Rank Progression: Acolyte, Bone Carver, Soul Weaver, Crypt Guardian, Lich]
And as she had expected, a description soon appeared around the necromancer class, giving her a glimpse into just how powerful this class was.
After all, the two necromancers that had appeared before her were only at the middle rank and second lowest rank among necromancers, yet one was comparable to an A Rank Adventurer while the other was comparable to an S Rank Adventurer.
Following that logic, a crypt guardian would be comparable to an SS Rank Adventurer and a lich standing even above that should be a being that already exceeded the SS Rank.
With that in mind, she gained a deeper understanding of just how powerful this Eternal Life Sanctum was if they were backed by several powerful necromancers who had reached the rank of lich.
Still, it also made her increasingly excited about the main battlefield where an even stronger necromancer belonging to the Eternal Life Sanctum was bound to be waiting for her. Even if not a lich, it should at the very least be a necromancer that had reached the rank of crypt guardian.
No... In fact, she hoped it was a necromancer at the rank of crypt guardian, as she doubted, she currently had the strength to face a lich that had exceeded the SS Rank. Even if the other party was injured or locked in battle with the dungeon core, she doubted she would be able to do much to such a powerful being with her current strength.
Of course, though she didn’t feel confident in taking down a powerful lich with her current strength, it didn’t mean she wouldn’t dream of a perfect scenario where she arrived just in time to launch a single attack from afar to finish off a powerful lich with no risk or effort beyond that.
Then again, she also understood that such a situation was extremely unlikely given how such a powerful necromancer would have countless powerful undead and weaker necromancers surrounding themselves on all sides. Even if she launched an attack from afar, one of those countless undead would likely just jump up and block her attack with their body before it could get anywhere close to the lich. After which, she would draw the aggro of the massive army of undead under the lich.
Just imagining hundreds of thousands of undead beings followed by an equally large number of skeletons swarming towards her in a seemingly endless tide of living dead that filled everything in sight was more than enough to even make a dragon like Scaly feel a distinct shiver run down her spine.
But after this, she also felt an increasingly growing desire to learn some kind of large-scale spell like the fire magic Verdell had been using during their battle against the cave spiders.
Problem was, she didn’t really have much time to try and come up with new spells lately, as all her attention had been entirely focused on catching up to those two necromancers from the Eternal Life Sanctum now before her.
However, it wasn’t that she didn’t have any ideas, as she also began thinking about using the large number of undead before her as a test for some of the water spells she had come up with and didn’t have the opportunity to test out yet. Still, before she started using these water spells that would undoubtedly affect an area far larger than any spells she had used before, she decided to first kill off the two necromancers in control of the undead army.
Knowing that it was best to kill of these two to ensure the undead wouldn’t be able to put up a joint resistance against her and Verdell like they were currently doing in the face of the monsters who were currently being steamrolled by the undead legion that continued its relentless push forward through the cold desert.
Unfortunately, though she wanted to take out the two necromancers on her own, one was at the very core of the formation, while the other was towards the back. Nowhere close to each other. Meaning she would only be able to kill one of the two before the other was alerted to her presence and mobilized the vast army of undead to attack her- or that was at least what she thought before she suddenly remembered the dwarf on her back.
Even if she wanted to claim the kill on both necromancers, the current situation simply didn’t allow this, and she could only reluctantly leave the weaker necromancer for Verdell to deal with.
Whoosh~
With a plan already taking shape in the depths of her mind, Scaly didn’t linger around observing the army of undead clashing against the now dwindling army of monsters from afar and instead ascended into the clouds above. Flying just above where the layer of clouds started as she began approaching the battle in the distance from afar. Using the clouds to stay hidden, while sneakily peaking her head through the clouds to assess the situation from time to time. Ensuring that she continued moving in the correct direction before finally coming to a stop above the leading necromancer that she had decided on attacking.
Problem was, though she was ready to start her attack, she had no way to inform Verdell about her plans and could only gaze back up at him through the clouds that already surrounded the two of them. Hoping sincerely that her expectant gaze would be enough for him to figure out what she was thinking.
"I’m not a mind reader; I can’t read what you are thinking... But it isn’t that hard to guess you want to deal with those two necromancers below... Want me to deal with the weaker one while you take care of the stronger necromancer?" Rolling his eyes in response to the expectant gaze, Verdell easily saw through the intentions of the little dragon. Having long since predicted her little plans since he saw the undead army from afar.
R...Roar...
Not knowing what to say in response to the now slightly annoying dwarf on her back, Scaly could only let out a somewhat embarrassed roaring sound before shifting her attention towards the two necromancers directly below. Deciding to ignore the fact that she was easily seen through by this long-time passenger of hers.
Although, it might also have to do with the fact that her intentions in these kinds of situations weren’t exactly difficult to understand...
Whoosh~
But as she was momentarily lost in her own thoughts following Verdell’s words, the dwarf in question had already made the first move. Jumping off her back without the slightest hesitation before plunging downwards towards the weaker necromancer at the back of the undead legion. Using his fire magic midfall to adjust his own direction and ensure he would plummet right into where the weaker necromancer was located.
Even if she knew he had the feather falling spell to slow himself down and avoid turning into a dwarf pancake, this kind of reckless move was still shocking to her before she quickly realized that she didn’t have the time to be worried about this dwarf turning into a dwarf pancake.
After all, if she wasted too much time, she wouldn’t be able to successfully ambush the powerful necromancer at the soul weaver rank any longer!
Whoosh-!
And so, to catch up with Verdell who already had a head start, she joined him in recklessly diving down towards the undead army from above. Using her wind magic to accelerate her own descend and catch up with him so the two of them would at the very least reach their target at the same time. Ensuring both necromancers would be caught off guard.
