Chapter 1327: The Ultimate Mark
Translator: CinderTL
After a delightful banquet where host and guests alike were in high spirits, a servant presented Song Wen with a bill for 13,000 high-grade spirit stones.
The corner of Song Wen’s mouth twitched involuntarily.
The Jade Pavilion is truly treating me like a fat sheep to fleece!
"Fellow Daoist Jiang, what’s wrong? You’re not actually going to pawn your natal magic treasure, are you?" Ke Zheng’s voice carried a hint of mockery.
"Though the price is steep, sharing an evening meal with Fairy Lingzhu makes a mere ten thousand high-grade spirit stones utterly insignificant."
As he spoke, a dense pile of spirit stones materialized before Song Wen.
The servant’s face lit up with a fawning smile as he produced a storage pouch and swiftly collected the spirit stones.
"Guest, the spirit stone count is perfect. We welcome you to visit the Jade Pavilion again in the future."
"Fellow Daoist Jiang, you’ve certainly gone to great expense," Wu Lingzhu remarked with a radiant smile.
"Spirit stones are but worldly possessions," Song Wen replied, gazing at Wu Lingzhu with deep affection. "Even the greatest fortune pales in comparison to the fleeting moments spent in the company of an immortal maiden."
Two rosy blushes bloomed on Wu Lingzhu’s snow-white cheeks as she lowered her head in bashful embarrassment.
Ke Zheng felt like he was sitting on pins and needles, acutely aware of his awkward presence in the room.
But something even more unsettling was about to happen.
Wu Lingzhu gently lifted her head and gazed out the window. The full moon hung high in the sky, casting River Pan City in a silvery glow, its lights twinkling like fireflies.
"Fellow Daoist Jiang," Wu Lingzhu said, her voice soft and melodious like a murmuring stream, tinged with shyness and a hint of anticipation, "the night is particularly beautiful tonight. Would you care to join me for a stroll through River Pan City?"
Song Wen’s eyes widened instantly, his face flushed with overwhelming joy and disbelief.
"How could I possibly refuse an invitation from an immortal maiden!" Song Wen stepped forward and gestured toward the door. "Immortal maiden, please!"
"Mm," Wu Lingzhu murmured, her voice barely audible as she moved toward the door.
As she passed, Song Wen and Ke Zheng felt a gentle breeze brush their faces, carrying with it the subtle fragrance of orchids.
Song Wen took a step to follow her, but Ke Zheng quickly interjected.
"Fairy Lingzhu, it’s already late Hai hour, almost Zi hour. With your beauty, it’s unwise to risk encountering ill-intentioned individuals. It would be best to return to your residence early."
As Ke Zheng spoke, he glanced intentionally at Song Wen, deliberately emphasizing the words " ill-intentioned individuals."
However, Wu Lingzhu smiled brightly.
"Fellow Daoist Ke, you worry too much. River Pan City belongs to the Wu Clan. With the city’s protective array and the City Patrol Guard, no petty villains would dare harm me here. But you’re right about one thing—it’s late. You should return to your residence now."
Ke Zheng’s expression froze. He had never expected Wu Lingzhu to dismiss him so directly.
"Fellow Daoist Ke, rest assured and return to your residence," Song Wen interjected. "As long as I live, I will never allow anyone to harm Fairy Lingzhu in the slightest."
Wu Lingzhu turned abruptly, her radiant gaze falling on Song Wen’s face. Her eyes shimmered like autumn waters, captivating and stirring the soul.
"Fellow Daoist Jiang, let’s go."
"Alright!" Song Wen nodded firmly.
The two left the private room one after the other, leaving Ke Zheng behind. His expression darkened as he glared at their retreating figures.
The bright moon hung high, its clear radiance like a silken veil.
Song Wen and Wu Lingzhu floated side by side above the city, drifting slowly through the night air. Their robes billowed in the night breeze, making them appear like celestial beings descended to the mortal realm.
As the night deepened, the city lights dwindled, leaving only a few buildings still illuminated. Guided by Wu Lingzhu, they arrived at Wushang Lake. Under the moonlight, the lake’s surface rippled gently, shimmering with countless ripples.
"Fellow Daoist Jiang, you’ve traveled extensively in the Western lands and seen much of the world. Does the scenery of Wushang Lake meet your discerning eye?"
Song Wen gazed at Wu Lingzhu’s profile, speechless and seemingly entranced, offering no reply.
Wu Lingzhu turned her head, casting a reproachful glance at him. "Fellow Daoist Jiang, I asked you a question."
Song Wen snapped out of his reverie and quickly responded, "Immortal Maiden, please forgive my lapse. Under this moonlit glow, your beauty is beyond description, like a goddess stepped out of a dream. Every aspect of your being captivates my heart and soul. Though Wushang Lake is beautiful, your presence here eclipses its splendor entirely."
"Fellow Daoist Jiang, with such a silver tongue, you must have deceived countless fair maidens, haven’t you?" Wu Lingzhu lightly bit her lower lip, her face flushed with bashfulness.
"Immortal maiden, you misunderstand me," Song Wen said. "I am not one to be fickle. Your beauty is truly unparalleled, the most breathtaking I have ever beheld."
"Very well, I believe you," Wu Lingzhu replied.
Seemingly unable to withstand Song Wen’s intense gaze, Wu Lingzhu’s eyes darted away, avoiding his gaze until they finally settled on the brightly lit Lilang Pavilion on the lake shore.
"Huh? Lilang Pavilion is still open!" A flicker of surprise lit up Wu Lingzhu’s eyes. "Fellow Daoist Jiang, Lilang Pavilion is owned by the Myriad Swords Pavilion. It’s filled with rare treasures, many of which are seldom seen in the world. Shall we take a look?"
"Wherever the immortal maiden wishes to go, I will gladly accompany you," Song Wen replied.
"Fellow Daoist Jiang, you certainly know how to flatter a lady," Wu Lingzhu said with a playful pout.
Despite her words, she couldn’t contain her excitement. With a graceful flutter, she soared toward Lilang Pavilion.
Watching Wu Lingzhu’s retreating figure, a sharp glint flashed in Song Wen’s eyes.
It seems this woman intends to make me spend a fortune in spirit stones again.
As a member of the Wu Clan who had lived by Wushang Lake for years, Wu Lingzhu couldn’t possibly be unaware of Lilang Pavilion’s closing hours.
It was clear she had deliberately brought him to the lakeside.
A slight smile curved Song Wen’s lips as he hurried after her.
Perhaps due to the late hour, only a few maidservants remained in the vast Lilang Pavilion, with no customers in sight.
"Miss Lingzhu, you’ve arrived," a golden core stage maidservant greeted them.
She was the most advanced cultivator among the maidservants, clearly their leader.
Wu Lingzhu nodded slightly and pointed to Song Wen behind her.
"This is Fellow Daoist Jiang."
"Greetings, Senior Jiang," the maidservant bowed respectfully to Song Wen.
"No need for such formality, little friend," Song Wen replied politely.
"Welcome, seniors, to our humble establishment. What treasures might you be seeking?" the maidservant asked.
"I heard you recently acquired a batch of Spirit Communication Jujubes. Is this true?" Wu Lingzhu inquired.
"Miss Lingzhu’s intelligence is truly remarkable," the maidservant replied. "The Spirit Communication Jujubes arrived just yesterday, and none have been sold yet."
Wu Lingzhu’s eyes lit up slightly, and she asked eagerly, "How many Spirit Communication Jujubes are there in total?"
"Reporting to Miss Lingzhu, there are seventy-two jujubes in total," the maidservant replied.
"Quick, bring them out for me to see," Wu Lingzhu urged.
"Miss Lingzhu, Senior Jiang, the Spirit Communication Jujubes are precious and not to be displayed casually. Please follow me to the tea room for a more private discussion," the maidservant said.
"Very well, let’s go to the tea room. Lead the way," Wu Lingzhu agreed.
"Please follow this junior, seniors," the maidservant said, gesturing for them to follow.
