Chapter 1326: The Fat Sheep
Translator: CinderTL
Song Wen ascended into the air, blocking Wu Lingzhu and her group’s path.
"Greetings, Fairy Lingzhu. I am Jiang Yushan."
Wu Lingzhu and her companions halted mid-air, their path obstructed.
Before Wu Lingzhu could speak, a man in a black brocade robe stepped forward, his eyes blazing with fury as he glared at Song Wen. "Who are you? How dare you block Fairy Lingzhu’s path!" he roared.
"I am from the Jiang Family of Shangchu City, under the Spirit Jade Palace," Song Wen replied. "I have long admired the immortal maiden’s reputation and have come to pay my respects."
The man in the black brocade robe clearly hadn’t heard of the Jiang Family of Shangchu City, his face a blank slate of confusion.
However, he wasn’t the type to be blinded by beauty. Unsure of the Jiang Family’s origins, he refrained from further aggression and turned to Wu Lingzhu, deferring to her decision.
"Shangchu City... the Jiang Family?" Wu Lingzhu’s beautiful eyes swept over Song Wen before suddenly lighting up with a warm smile.
"Fellow Daoist Jiang! I’ve heard our elders mention the Jiang Family of Shangchu City and your name many times. Meeting you today confirms your extraordinary bearing and profound cultivation."
"You flatter me, Immortal Maiden," Song Wen replied. "My mid-stage Divine Transformation cultivation is insignificant compared to your own."
After just one conversation, Song Wen felt the truth of Mo Yexue’s assessment of Wu Lingzhu: "She’s a master of manipulation."
After all, the Spirit Jade Palace had no affiliation with the Jiang Family of Shangchu City. Instead, they were a city and clan located on Qicang Island.
Wu Lingzhu’s ability to navigate relationships with numerous men without provoking resentment from any of them truly marked her as an extraordinary individual.
"Fellow Daoist Jiang, what brings you to River Pan City?" Wu Lingzhu asked.
"I’m ashamed to admit," Song Wen replied, "that I’ve spent years wandering the world. Recently, while passing through this esteemed region, I heard tales of your name, immortal maiden. Initially, I dismissed them with skepticism. Having traveled far and wide, I’ve encountered countless legends of ’Peerless Beauties,’ only to find them mostly empty boasts upon closer inspection. But today, by chance, I had the honor of witnessing your true countenance, and I now realize how shallow my previous assumptions were. Your radiance is unparalleled, like a celestial being descended to earth, utterly unlike us mortals. Graceful as a startled swan, lithe as a swimming dragon, Rong—"
Song Wen suddenly paused, seemingly at a loss for how to continue his flattery.
Changing his tack, he continued, "It’s not due to my lack of eloquence. Rather, the mundane language of this world simply cannot capture the full extent of your immortal beauty."
Wu Lingzhu’s smile bloomed like spring blossoms, her eyes curving into crescent moons.
"Fellow Daoist Jiang, you certainly have a silver tongue. I’m hardly as beautiful as you make me out to be."
"My words come straight from the heart, Immortal Maiden," Song Wen replied earnestly. "Please don’t underestimate yourself."
"Hehe..." Wu Lingzhu covered her mouth as she laughed, her voice like tinkling bells. Her waist trembled with mirth, causing her ample chest to sway gently.
While Wu Lingzhu was delighted, the men around her were far from pleased.
The group, who had been vying for her attention moments earlier, suddenly united in hostility against Song Wen, this unexpected newcomer. They glared at him with cold disdain.
"Fellow Daoist Jiang, since you’re traveling, it’s best not to linger here. There may be even finer scenery ahead," the man in black robes and brocade robes said.
Song Wen didn’t even glance away from Wu Lingzhu as he replied, "No rush, no rush. The world is full of wonders, but none can compare to even a fraction of Fairy Lingzhu’s beauty."
The men in black robes and brocade robes grew even more enraged.
"Hehe..." Wu Lingzhu’s laughter rang out again. "Since you insist, Fellow Daoist Jiang, would you care to join me for the evening meal? I’ve lived for over four centuries but never traveled far. I’d love to hear tales of your adventures."
"It would be my honor to accept the immortal maiden’s invitation," Song Wen replied. "However, as a newcomer to River Pan City, I know little of its finest establishments. I humbly request that the immortal maiden lead the way to the city’s most exquisite Gourmet Pavilion. Only the most luxurious cuisine could possibly match the immortal maiden’s ethereal elegance."
"Since Fellow Daoist insists," Wu Lingzhu said, her eyes flickering slightly as her smile faded slightly, "let us go to the Jade Pavilion. However, the Jade Pavilion is notoriously expensive. I wonder if the spirit stones in your storage pouch..."
Before she could finish, Song Wen interrupted.
"To dine with the immortal maiden is a fortune beyond measure. Even if I had to pawn my natal magic treasure to the Jade Pavilion today, I would do so gladly."
At this, the black-robed, brocade-clad man could no longer contain himself and interjected sharply.
"Hmph! Such arrogance! The Jade Pavilion is River Pan City’s most extravagant Gourmet Pavilion, using only the rarest spiritual objects in the world. A simple meal there costs at least a thousand high-grade spirit stones. Ordering their top-tier dishes could easily exceed several thousand, even ten thousand high-grade spirit stones! If you can’t afford it, you might indeed have to pawn your natal magic treasure to the Jade Pavilion."
Song Wen finally shifted his gaze from Wu Lingzhu to the black-robed, brocade-clad man.
"May I ask your name, fellow daoist?"
The man straightened his neck, lifting his chin slightly.
"Ke Zheng, core disciple of the Myriad Swords Pavilion, apprenticed to Gu Huang."
Song Wen’s eyebrows shot up, his face radiating respect as he hastily clasped his hands in a formal bow.
"So you’re a distinguished disciple of the Myriad Swords Pavilion! My deepest respects! Senior Gu Huang’s name echoes like thunder; his mastery of the Sword Dao has reached its zenith, and his character is as pure as snow. As a disciple of such a venerable senior, your mastery of the Sword Dao must be extraordinary."
Ke Zheng seemed pleased by Song Wen’s deference, the hostility in his expression softening slightly.
"Fellow Daoist Ke Zheng, would you care to join us for dinner?" Song Wen asked.
Ke Zheng nodded curtly, offering no reply. The man who had previously been fawning over Wu Lingzhu now exuded an air of aloof arrogance.
"Fellow daoists, I have matters to attend to today. Please forgive my inability to accompany you," Wu Lingzhu said to the men beside her.
Understanding her words as a dismissal, the men glared fiercely at Song Wen before departing in a huff.
Song Wen, Wu Lingzhu, and Ke Zheng arrived together at the so-called Jade Pavilion.
The Jade Pavilion stood beside Wushang Lake, a five-story structure resembling a massive jade carving. Its emerald glow shimmered across its surface, its eaves curving upward like wings, and it sparkled brilliantly in the setting sun.
"Miss Lingzhu, which private room would you prefer today?" a servant greeted them as they entered.
"Is the Heaven-Class rooms still available?" Wu Lingzhu asked.
"Heaven-Class Room Four is unoccupied," the servant replied.
"Then we’ll take that one," Wu Lingzhu said.
"What dishes would the young lady like?" the servant inquired.
"Fellow Daoist Jiang is new to River Pan City, so we must not neglect him. Bring out all of the Jade Pavilion’s signature dishes. And a few jars of your finest spirit wine as well," Wu Lingzhu instructed.
"Yes, ma’am!" The servant bowed and retreated. "Please proceed to Heaven-Class Room Four. I’ll inform the kitchen immediately."
"Immortal Maiden, is the Jade Pavilion owned by your clan?" Song Wen asked.
"Fellow Daoist Jiang, please follow me," Wu Lingzhu replied, leading them toward a nearby staircase. "The Jade Pavilion is indeed a property of the Wu Clan."
Song Wen immediately understood why Wu Lingzhu had emphasized the Jade Pavilion’s exorbitant prices earlier.
Could this banquet be a setup to fleece them?
