Chapter 331: Chapter 317: The Matter of Freeloading a Meal

When Sepherdine heard that Flora Bloom had kicked out those four people, he was in high spirits. He became even more dedicated to their cooperation and even made a point of sending someone to Villa No. 3 every night to report the base’s daily situation to her.

Flora Bloom was indifferent to this, but Sepherdine’s actions undoubtedly increased the mutual trust between them. As a result, she had Sherman Lynch take charge of liaising with the person Sepherdine sent over to report each day.

The man who came was named Jed Holden, a Level 3 Earth Element superpower user. At first, he was vehemently opposed to Sepherdine’s order to report all daily base management matters to Flora Bloom’s people.

When he reluctantly arrived inside Villa No. 3, the first thing he saw was a swarm of bees, BUZZING as they ferociously battled a giant mantis.

Just as a chill ran down his spine, a giant white tiger let out a ROAR that startled him so badly his back tingled, his legs went soft, and he nearly collapsed on the ground.

He stared at these giant, mutated creatures as if facing a formidable enemy, not daring to move an inch.

Just then, Cynthia Grant walked out of the courtyard, holding a gopher the size of a pug in one arm. Seeing Jed Holden, she tossed a sleeping gopher into his arms. "Here to find Flora, right? Perfect, lend me a hand and hold this. Let’s go, I’ll take you in."

Jed Holden held the plump gopher, not knowing whether to keep holding it or drop it, and mechanically followed Cynthia Grant with a terrible look on his face.

The sky had already darkened, and as Jed Holden approached the courtyard, he caught the scent of a rustic, home-cooked meal.

Jed Holden, who had long been accustomed to the stench of zombie brains, momentarily thought he had been transported back to a small, pre-apocalypse farmstead. He saw three villas enclosed within a single courtyard. Wisps of smoke curled into the air, and the aroma of food was intoxicating. A large round table was placed in the center of the yard, with over a dozen people sitting around it. Others stood to the side, holding their bowls and helping themselves to the dishes.

Seeing Cynthia return with someone, Jade went over and deftly took Star from Jed Holden’s hands. "You can just give this little fella to me."

As she spoke, Jade and Cynthia carried the two little creatures, who had tired themselves out playing and turned back into gophers, into the villa.

Flora Bloom glanced up at the awkwardly standing Jed Holden. His gaze was fixed on the dishes on their table.

"Have you eaten?"

Jed Holden didn’t react at first, looking around for a moment before realizing Flora Bloom was talking to him. "N-no," he said, involuntarily swallowing.

When Jade came back out, she was holding an extra set of a bowl and chopsticks. Cynthia, who emerged with her, had already grabbed her own set and joined the group at the round table to eat. Jed Holden, however, just stared at the bowl and chopsticks Jade was holding out, unsure whether he should accept.

Flora Bloom gave Jed Holden a helpless look. "What, are you going to make my mom hold that bowl for you all night? Don’t tell me you need someone to feed you, too?"

This time, Jed Holden’s face flushed bright red. He hastily took the bowl and chopsticks from Jade and joined the feasting brigade.

He couldn’t remember the last time he’d had a meal like this—it was unbelievably fragrant! At first, he was still a bit reserved, not even daring to fill his bowl completely, worried there wouldn’t be enough food for so many people.

But then he saw Ethan Monroe emerge with another dish, followed by Fakyoo carrying a huge basin of fragrant white rice. He swallowed again and promptly filled his bowl to the brim.

Gradually, the ravenous eating style of those around him became contagious. The originally stiff atmosphere melted away, and Jed Holden was even goaded by Ethan Monroe and Sherman Lynch into drinking.

The alcohol was like a conduit for happiness, and it quickly enlivened the atmosphere at the table.

Jed Holden was a lightweight. After two glasses of low-proof liquor, a jolt went through his body, and he finally let himself go completely.

"Delicious, delicious! This chicken is so fresh and tender! Old Monroe, who would’ve thought a gruff old bear like you had such skills!"

Ethan Monroe downed a glass of liquor in one go. After catching a glare from Shauna Wallace, he blushed and gave a sheepish chuckle. "Of course! A good man must be able to slay zombies and rule the kitchen! Here, here, drink up!"

Jed Holden downed another glass, staggered on his feet, then filled it up again. "O-Ol-Old Lynch! Haha, heard so much about you. Me, I’ll... bottoms up!"

Sherman Lynch chuckled, completely at ease. "You can hold your liquor, kid! Come on, drink up!" Sherman Lynch was an old hand who could drink a thousand cups without getting drunk. In their entire group, no one could hold their liquor better than him, except for Ethan Monroe.

Seeing the boisterous drinking atmosphere take hold, Caleb Bloom poured another glass right after finishing his first. "Come on, come on! It’s Young Holden’s first time here. Let’s all do a round together!"
