Chapter 359: She is a replacement
Had it been her previous life, Mo Jun would have fought to death for Esther even after knowing her deeds. But in this life, he actually stayed silent after seeing Esther in this state.
"I believe in you and your judgement," Mo Jun said calmly.
But the single statement made many declarations.
Mo Jun knew Esther had wronged Ella on multiple occasions. He trusted Ella, beyond his own judgement. Most of all, he chose to side with his friend at this crucial moment.
This time, Mo Jun refused to act blind.
Ella’s eyes widened briefly before she inhaled a breath and looked at Esther, "Thanks."
Ella spoke to Mo Jun while looking at Esther.
"She just mentioned how you met, how she selflessly stayed for you when you were vulnerable..."
Esther’s eyelids trembled, her body twitching in the female bodyguard’s grip.
Mo Jun frowned, "Why... you..."
"I don’t know much except for the fact that the Esther I know wouldn’t do anything for anyone without any motives," Ella calmly declared, "Why don’t you revisit your encounter?"
"What nonsense are you spouting you... mmph!" Esther’s mouth was stuffed with a sock before she could utter another word.
Mo Jun remained stunned for a long time before he snapped out of his reverie. His face went pale at a sudden realization that hit him out of nowhere.
He staggered a few steps back.
Ella turned and patted on his shoulder, "I will take it from here."
As if shaking off a ghost from himself, Mo Jun snapped out of his trance and left the place with weak footsteps, without sparing Esther another glance.
Ella turned to Esther.
"Will you speak or not?"
The moment she spoke, the lady guard moved on cue.
With the sock stuffed in her mouth, Esther flinched and hurriedly nodded.
"You can leave," Ella waved her hands at the guards.
The moment Esther was freed, she got up on shaky legs and pulled out the sock stuffed in her mouth.
"What do you want to ask...?"
"I saw the diary I gifted you when we were young..." Ella noted the way Esther’s eyes widened slightly, "In that, you wrote how much you hated me. Why, I have never treated you badly...?"
"You..."
Ella cut Esther off, "This is something I would have asked you before. But now, I only want to know one thing. How is Lana connected to the Yu Family..."
Before Ella could even finish speaking, Esther burst out in a bout of maniacal laughter.
"Hahaha..." Esther clutched her stomach, laughing till the point tears welled up in her eyes, "Haha..."
Ella stood there silently, unfazed by the woman’s theatrics.
Gradually, Esther’s laughter died down. Her gaze was full of mockery as she looked at Ella, "So, that’s what you want to know. Fine... Fine... I won’t beat around the bush at all. I will tell you. I will even answer your previous question as well."
Ella’s brows tugged into a light frown as Esther calmly stepped back.
"The reason I hate you so much is because you are not even my real sister. You are not Ella Yu."
"It seems like you haven’t learnt your lesson yet," Ella arched a brow, "Guards..."
"I have no reason to lie to you, you know..." Esther shook her head and spoke in a very calm voice, "Why do you think I hate you so much? Why would I hate my biological sister so much? Haven’t you done the DNA tests yet...? Oh even if you did, they would probably be faked to convince you that you are the real daughter of the Yu Family."
"Why?" Ella whispered.
"Just say that you were a charity case my parents had taken in. But you, this ungrateful wench, even broke ties my parents. So, the reason you are here asking this question today must be because of..." Esther paused, "Adrian King, right?"
"Have you never wondered why he loved you so much?" Esther shook her head, "The truth is that you are not his true love, you are just an obsession."
The tips of Ella’s fingers turned cold, the ice spreading inside her entire body even though her expression did not betray a single emotion.
"He is obsessed with you because you had replaced my sister, the only person he has ever loved with all his heart," Esther’s voice softened, "It’s good that she is back now."
"It’s good that Lana is back."
...
’Honk!"
The cab came to a screeching halt in the middle of a crowded street.
"Miss, there seems to be a blockage ahead."
Ella snapped out of her daze and looked ahead where a huge tree had fallen off, covering most of the wide road.
"Shall we take the other route? It’s a bit long so you will need to pay some tips..."
"Sure."
Satisfied with her response, the driver turned the cab.
"Stop!" Ella suddenly said as they crossed the main street.
The driver stepped on the brakes, "Miss, is everything alright?"
"Roll down the windows..." Ella mumbled.
As the glass rolled down, Ella looked to the other side of the street in a daze.
There was a lavish French restaurant, it’s glass walls shimmering in a beautiful golden hue.
But the extravagance of the restaurant seemed to pale in Ella’s eyes.
From the beginning to the end, her eyes were locked onto the small cornermost table, an intimate sitting spot, and the two people occupying it.
On one side, there was Adrian. And on the other side was Lana.
Suddenly Esther’s presence seemed to have manifested inside the car, her voice ringing loud and clear.
’He is obsessed with you because you had replaced my sister, the only person he has ever loved with all his heart.’
’It’s good that Lana is back.’
"Miss, miss...!"
"I..." Ella sucked in a deep breath, taking sight of the two people for one last time before she turned to the driver, "want to change the destination. Take a U-turn."
