Shen Nian and Lu Cheng didn’t have to wait long before the receptionist returned.
And for some reason, after she left and came back, her attitude toward Shen Nian and Lu Cheng had become much more respectful than before.
"Please follow me to the reception room. Our Bureau Chief will be here shortly."
The receptionist practically wanted to cry. You couldn’t blame her for the sudden change in attitude. Before, her shift was just because of the card Lu Cheng had shown, which made her unable to figure out his identity.
But now, it was because after she had given the Bureau Chief a detailed report, he specifically asked a few more questions about the card’s details. Then he said he would come over immediately and even told her to entertain the two honored guests properly.
’Honored guests! What kind of status must someone have for the Bureau Chief to call them honored guests?!’
Under these circumstances, if the receptionist still couldn’t understand that Lu Cheng’s identity was extraordinary, she’d be a disgrace to her own snobbishness.
The thought of how she had verbally offended Shen Nian and Lu Cheng earlier filled the receptionist with terror. She could only hope they would be magnanimous and not hold it against her.
Shen Nian and Lu Cheng paid no mind to the receptionist’s terror. They had their own purpose for this trip, and the receptionist wasn’t worth their precious time.
Normally, when receiving such distinguished guests, the receptionist would definitely try to cozy up to them. But now, after showing Lu Cheng and Shen Nian into the reception room, she was afraid to even breathe too loudly, terrified she might offend them again.
Only when the Bureau Chief hurried over and dismissed her did the receptionist finally breathe a sigh of relief.

When Li Zhe, the Bureau Chief of the L County Education Bureau, received a report from his staff that someone was asking for him by name without an appointment but had produced an unfamiliar yet clearly extraordinary card, his first reaction was to think his receptionist was completely incompetent. If they didn’t have an appointment, she should have just sent them away.
However, before he could start reprimanding her, a thought suddenly struck him, and he seized on a key detail in her report.
He then asked for more details about the card the person had shown.
The answer left Li Zhe stunned. He immediately dropped the work he was doing and told the receptionist to take good care of the visitors, saying he would come down to greet them personally at once.
After making these arrangements, Li Zhe felt a wave of retroactive fear. Thank goodness he had asked that extra question. Otherwise, he, the Bureau Chief, might have offended someone he absolutely could not afford to offend.
Although he couldn’t be completely certain of their identity yet, as long as there was even the slightest possibility, he could not afford to be negligent.
However, when Li Zhe rushed to the reception room as fast as he could and saw Lu Cheng and Shen Nian sitting there calmly drinking tea, all the words he had prepared in his mind vanished. He was suddenly at a loss for what to say.
