Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Can You Announce Us Now?
After comforting Shen Nian, Lu Cheng turned back to the receptionist.
"Can you announce us now?"
"Did you not understand what I said...?"
The receptionist, certain the couple would leave in disgrace, didn’t spare Shen Nian and Lu Cheng another glance. Although she’d thought the man was handsome, what good were looks? ’He’s just a pauper, not worth a second glance!’
And so, the receptionist just wanted to get rid of them quickly before they interfered with her work. Not that she was particularly dedicated to her job—it was just an ordinary position, after all. But it was a great way to meet people, and she was counting on landing a rich husband here!
So when she realized they still hadn’t left after she’d been so blunt, the receptionist was starting to get genuinely annoyed.
However, she was mid-sentence when she saw what Lu Cheng was holding. The receptionist’s mouth snapped shut.
It wasn’t because she recognized the object in Lu Cheng’s hand. On the contrary, it was precisely because she *didn’t*.
And yet, even without knowing what the card was, her materialistic eye could tell that the glittering gold card in Lu Cheng’s hand was anything but ordinary.
’Someone who owns a card like that could never be the pauper I thought he was!’
’Did I misjudge him? But his clothes... he doesn’t look rich at all!’

"So, can you still not announce us?"
"Yes! Please wait a moment, sir. I’ll go announce you right now!"
The more suspicious she grew of his identity, the more the receptionist felt he was not someone she could afford to offend. Her attitude toward Lu Cheng and Shen Nian did a complete one-eighty.
After saying this to Lu Cheng, the receptionist hurried back to her desk to report to the bureau chief’s office.
Shen Nian stood by Lu Cheng’s side. She didn’t say a word, but she had seen the receptionist’s reaction with perfect clarity.
Especially the instantaneous shift in her attitude after seeing what Lu Cheng had produced. ’Tsk, tsk,’ Shen Nian thought, ’she changes her tune faster than you can flip a page.’
’You have to admit, the woman has a certain kind of talent!’
But then Shen Nian looked at Lu Cheng. ’Just what did he show her to scare the receptionist that badly?’
Lu Cheng noticed the question in her eyes and handed her the card, letting her examine it as she pleased.
"I’ll tell you all about it later."
"Okay."
Shen Nian nodded without pressing him. Lu Cheng had told her before that he was probably more powerful than she imagined.
’Perhaps this is a part of his power that I don’t know about!’
’It seems Lu Cheng has a lot of secrets for me to uncover! The thought is actually a little... exciting!’
Shen Nian turned the card Lu Cheng had given her over a few times. Other than a single, imposing-looking emblem, there was no text on it. As far as she could tell, there was no way to determine the card’s origin.
Shen Nian had no idea what this card could possibly be used for.
Since she couldn’t figure it out, Shen Nian decided to just stop thinking about it. Besides, Lu Cheng had already said he would eventually tell her all about it.
All she needed to know was that Lu Cheng would never do anything to hurt her. Even if he really did have secrets, Shen Nian could accept that.
After all, she had a huge secret of her own that she was hiding from him, didn’t she?
