Chapter 98: Give me money
"I know mom." Han Ziyan bit her lower lip and, after a second, forced a smile.
Once Meng Yunhan left, she raised her hands and started to hit the bed. Han Ruochen! That woman was her born nemesis. She was bent on going against her. First, she sent Yang Jianming to prison and then sold her job; now, she even made her look bad in the eyes of Han Yichen. It was as if she were determined to ruin her.
She too wanted to find a job, but how was she supposed to find it when she had no skills or degrees? And if there were any job openings, then she would have to pay for them. The best she could do was to make someone recommend her. But even that would need money.
Her friend’s birthday was just around the corner, and she couldn’t hand her a simple gift that would only make the other woman look down at her. She was, after all, hoping for the woman to introduce her to the platoon commander. How could she just hand her a cheap gift that was impossible?
But how was she going to buy a good gift with just eight yuan in her hands? She was hoping for her mother to give her more money, but now that Han Yichen had stepped in and stopped her mother from giving her money, how was she going to get any money?
After some consideration, Han Ziyan stood up and went to knock on Han Ruochen’s door. "Sister Chen, are you in? Can I come in?"
Upon hearing Han Ziyan’s voice, Han Ruochen put away the book that she was reading and looked up. "Come in."
Han Ziyan didn’t wait for another second and pushed open the door and walked inside the room. As soon as she walked inside, her expression turned sour, and she didn’t look good.
In the entire family, Meng Yunhan and Han Yichen’s room was the biggest, and then the second-best room went to none other than the two eldest sons of the family, while the third-best room belonged to the eldest daughter. As for her, Han Ziyan had the smallest room. Though Han Yichen kept saying that he treated her just like all of his kids, the truth was that he clearly distinguished between the two of them.
Even Han Ruochen’s room was better than her own.
Even Meng Yunhan never tried to give her what she deserved, even though she kept saying that she treated her better than anyone else, the truth was that she never gave her what she deserved!
Han Ziyan couldn’t help but say, "Sister Chen, your room is really good. It’s even bigger than my own." She wanted to tell Han Ruochen that she was suffering in the Han family and that she had the smallest room in the house, but who would have thought that Han Ruochen would simply raise her head and look at her before saying only one word, "Oh?"
Han Ziyan was stunned. Unexpectedly, Han Ruochen’s reaction was too cold. Shouldn’t she be filled with sympathy toward her? Why was she acting like there was nothing wrong and that she was telling her the weather of the day?
"Is there something that you want to tell me?"
"There is indeed something." Upon hearing her voice, Han Ziyan recalled her motive. "Sister Chen, I would like to ask you a little favour. I remembered that you had some money? Can you lend me some? I promise that I will return it in the future."
As soon as Han Ruochen’s heard her words, she frowned. However, even though she was confused by Han Ziyan’s sudden request, she simply shook her head and said, "You want to borrow money? I don’t have any."
She thought that the woman had come here to confront her because of what happened just now, but it seemed like she had underestimated Han Ziyan’s ruthlessness and patience. She could actually stomach such humiliation because she wanted to get money.
Anyway, talking about money would hurt the relationship, and talking about the relationship—what kind of relationship or feelings she had for Han Ziyan? In this life, she would never let this woman take advantage of her.
"Why not, sister? You clearly have more than a thousand and ten thousand yuan in your hands. Sister Chen, even if I am your adopted sister, I am still your sister— we have grown up together. You would rather let the money rot in your hand than help me?" Upon thinking that she would never be able to get anything in return, Han Ziyan could only soften her tone and say to Han Ruochen in a low voice, "Sister Chen, I need it urgently need it this time around. I promise that I will return it to you."
"I already said that I have no money. I have deposited all my money in the bank, and I cannot just wilfully take it out," Han Ruochen insisted that she had no money. Even if she had money, she would never take it out for someone like Han Ziyan. "Also, what is this important matter? If you need it for a decent purpose, our father will not shortchange you. Just tell him why you need the money, and he will give it to you."
Towards the end of the conversation, Han Ruochen’s eyes flashed with sarcasm.
Han Ziyan was the adopted daughter of the family. From a young age, she knew that she had to pretend that she was obedient and well-behaved. What was more, she also had a sweet tongue.
Han Ruochen knew that even though Han Ziyan thought that her father was shortchanging her, the truth was that she was being treated even better than his own kids. Because her identity was a bit awkward, her father gave her the closest room to the rest of the siblings just to make sure that she didn’t feel like she was being ostracised, but this consideration of his turned into something cruel and heartless.
In short, no matter how much her father does for Han Ziyan, she would never care about it in the least.
