Chapter 96: Filled with regret
Looking at the pages that were old and faded, Han Ruochen knew that the woman didn’t purchase this book just a few days ago. She had clearly purchased it months ago. Han Ruochen searched for the dates when Han Ziyan went to look for Yang Jianming, and when she found a clear record of them as if written in a diary.
She quickly calculated these dates and realised that these days were not just some ordinary dates. These were the most crucial days of Han Ziyan’s life when she was sitting for her college examination. Han Ziyan clearly had enough money in her hands, but she refused to buy a revision book and bought this one book, wasting her time as well as their family’s money. Han Ruochen remembered very well that she wanted to buy revision books as well, even if she was looked down at because of her community, she could have still gotten into a private college.
Yet her mother had refused on the pretext that they had no money. Since she didn’t have enough resources, naturally, she failed, but what was surprising was that Han Ziyan had both money and resources, and she still wasted her precious time. Han Ruochen would never forget how desperately her mother had fought with her father to let Han Ziyan attend the examination, even going as far as threatening her chance.
And this was how Han Ziyan repaid them?
Han Yichen’s eyes were pretty good, and he noticed Han Ruochen’s actions right away. He looked at the detailed imagination that was written at the back of the book, and his eyes turned dark.
Ever since his wife brought back this niece of his, he has not had much hope from her. He just hoped that she would not grow up to become a white-eyed wolf. But look at those violent words written in black at the back of the book. It was clear that this woman had no intentions of repaying them for all the good things that they had done. If anything, he would be thankful if she didn’t cause trouble for him and his family members.
He had always believed that Han Ziyan, though not gifted as his children, was at least a kind-hearted woman. But now he had changed all his thinking about her.
"No wonder you didn’t fare well in the exams and went after the fiancé of your sister. This is where your attention is channelling after all," Han Yichen was greatly disappointed in this adopted daughter of his. He didn’t have many expectations from her, but he never thought that one day she would betray his expectations like this.
He thought of how he had raised her for so many years, but this girl had never shed a single tear, even when she made him almost peel his skin for her own demands, and now she was crying over words written on mere paper. It was simply too much.
Han Yichen couldn’t help but feel really awful.
But he didn’t want to quibble with Han Ziyan, nor could he do that, given that the young woman was half his age. So he could only turn to look at his wife and lash out at her, "So you fought to the death with me because of this reason? You said that she wanted to study, that she worked hard and just couldn’t get enough marks. This was what you meant by that she had worked hard? She was sitting for her college examination, and this was what she was studying. A book that teaches her how to steal the fiancé of her sister?"
As he spoke, he couldn’t help but snatch the book from Han Ruochen and throw it at Meng Yunhan’s face.
Meng Yunhan couldn’t speak; her face was hurting, but what hurt even more was her pride. However, Meng Yunhan couldn’t say a word to defend herself against the accusations that her husband had piled up on her head. She could only look at Han Ziyan and softly ask, "Ziyan, why did you..."
Why did her daughter do such a thing? She couldn’t understand how her daughter ended up reading such books when she clearly told her to work hard. Even if the people from the fisherman community were looked down on, they could still get into a private college as long as they worked hard, and if they scored good grades, they could even get into a major college!
She had been hoping for the same thing to happen to Han Ziyan. Who would have thought that she would fumble the ball like this!? A ball that she fought tooth and nail with Han Yichen. This was not something that Han Ziyan could have joked about and yet she did!
Han Ziyan still had a buzzing sound in her ears. She couldn’t understand how such a thing happened.
She had clearly told her mother that she was cleaning and that she would do it alone. Usually, no one in the house was busy enough to poke their noses in her business, which made things quite easier for her. Han Ziyan always felt like she was an outsider, and sometimes she even hated the Han family for not caring about her enough. But doing these kinds of shady tricks was only possible if no one was paying attention to her.
No one had ever cared about her, thats why she was reading this book without a care in the world. She thought that no one would care about what she was doing in her room and was so absorbed in reading the climax where the wife of the male lead was trying to kill his lover, that she didn’t even realise that someone had burst into her room.
If she had known that they would come barging into her room like they were about to apprehend a criminal, Han Ziyan would have never taken out this book and started reading it without a care in the world!
