Chapter 92: Its a theft
While Han Ruochen and Second Uncle Han were rushing to open a bank account, Han Yichen had returned home. The first person he saw after coming back home was his wife, who was sitting on the couch like a door god. When he saw her, he couldn’t help but frown. "What are you doing? Why are you sitting here as if someone owes you money? Did you not go looking for a job?"
In the past, Han Ruochen was the one taking care of the home; thus, everything was clean and tidy, but ever since Meng Yunhan took over, the entire house has been a mess. There was no dinner cooked, and he realised that Han Ziyan, who often portrayed herself as the perfect filial daughter, didn’t know how to cook! She only knew how to bring the lunch made by his daughter to him.
Looking at the condition of his house, Han Yichen felt his head ache. It seemed like he had to think of a way to solve this problem. Meng Yunhan was really not cut out for being a housewife.
"Why are you questioning me like I have done anything wrong? If you should be questioning someone, then it should be Han Ruochen!" Meng Yunhan had indeed gone to look for a job, but she was neither skilled nor well educated. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that she was just a pretty face. Thus, even after looking around for a long time, she didn’t find a job, and it was then that she ran into Widow Wang. The woman told her that Han Ruochen had caught snail caviar!
The last time someone caught it, they sold it for fourteen thousand yuan. Han Ruochen wouldn’t sell it for anything less...that means she didn’t have to go looking for a job!
However, her imagination was much more beautiful than reality.
Han Ruochen found the snail caviar in the morning, and she did not return home till the evening, which made Meng Yunhan more and more dissatisfied. Clearly, she must have sold the snail caviar by now, but instead of coming back home, she was staying outside. Meng Yunhan was worried that Han Ruochen would spend the money recklessly!
Han Yichen’s expression turned dark. He tugged his jacket off his shoulders and questioned, "Why would I question Han Ruochen? She has clearly not done anything wrong. If anything, she is working hard to make up for the theft that has happened at home, who are you to blame her?"
"What do you mean by theft?" Meng Yunhan was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. "Are you calling me a thief?"
Han Yichen took a sip of warm water and wiped his face with the wet cloth that Han Jianyou gave him. He was still at home and was going to return to school on Monday. Looking at the situation at home, Han Jianyou felt like it was better to return as soon as possible, or else he would be driven mad by his mother. All day long, she did nothing but complain about his elder sister.
Han Jianyou didn’t want to stay at home, but he had no friends in the village, so he could only lock himself in his room every day. He was going mad! And coming out of his room was not an option because if he came out of the room, his mother would catch him and start scolding him.
Don’t think that just because he was happy-go-lucky, he didn’t understand that his mother was taking her anger out on him. Thus, he started to stay cooped up in his room, but asking a young man around his age to be locked up was similar to asking a young blooded lion to stay put.
He was so anxious every day that he continuously paced inside his room.
Han Jianyou stayed silent, as he didn’t want to get involved in the fight between his parents, but inwardly, he agreed with his father. Someone who took their entire family’s savings without asking was a thief. What was there to quarrel about?
But he didn’t dare to say anything lest his mother start to create a fuss and start calling him unfilial.
Han Yichen spat in the washbasin in the kitchen. He turned to look at his wife and calmly said, "The savings that you took belonged to the entire family and not just me. Which means that this was not shared property, yet you took it and gave it to your cousin. If it is not a theft, what is it?"
Meng Yunhan flushed red with anger. "Why did I do it? Isn’t it because I had to marry you, poor and old pauper? My maternal family had a very good fiancé chosen for me, but we had to break that engagement because of you. I am only doing this to make up for the humiliation that my family had to go through."
In the past, Han Yichen would have felt sorry after listening to these words, but he no longer felt the same. "How many years do I have to provide for your family for the humiliation that they suffered? I calculated the money that you have sent to your family all these years, and the sum alone is more than eight thousand yuan. Do you think this is nothing? Not even a city girl would receive a bride price of eight thousand yuan these days, much less when you married me."
"And I have also raised Han Ziyan under my name when she is clearly your sister’s daughter. Where have I wronged you or your family? If I start calculating, I have spent more than fifty thousand yuan on your family alone! That’s twice as much as I have spent on my very own kids!"
This realisation alone made Han Yichen flush red with embarrassment. His mother was right; he had given too much freedom to Meng Yunhan. So much so that she was riding on top of his head.
