Chapter 90: Zhai Mumu
"Then I will wait here," said Han Ruochen. Though she was not scared of Yang Jianming, she didn’t mind waiting and letting someone work for her. Anyway, it was too hot!
Zhai Muchen nodded and walked out of the room. Zhai Mumu, who was treated as if she didn’t even exist, was speechless. She chased after her brother and asked in a hard voice, "Brother Muchen, what is going on? Is this young lady related to the Yang family?"
The Yang family didn’t get along well with the Zhai family. Was there something suspicious about this woman and her sudden appearance in their family?
The Yang family was no longer as prominent as it was; it was all due to Father Yang being a corrupt individual. Thus, he had been shunted into the same position and department for so many years. And Yang Jianming was not a good thing either. That man was used to flirting with women. There was a time when he tried to flirt with her as well.
Zhai Mumu would never forget that day when that man tried to get all sleazy with her, and that too when he was engaged with someone. When Zhai Mumu thought about the poor fiancée of that rotten man, she couldn’t help but feel sorry for her.
"Don’t worry; if you hate Yang Jianming, then that young lady absolutely loathes the Yang family." Zhai Muchen was not worried about Han Ruochen approaching his family because of some hidden intentions.
"Oh?" Zhai Mumu was no longer as careless and naive as she appeared to be. She turned solemn and asked, "What do you mean by that?"
"Didn’t you hear me warn her? The one who sent Yang Jianming to prison was her. These days, the reason you have been gloating is her," Zhai Muchen told her with a curl of his lips.
"What?" Zhai Mumu questioned with a look of disbelief on her face. "What does that have to do with her?" She had indeed been gloating these days because she was having quite a lot of fun mocking Aunt Yang, who used to mock her mother.
"She was the one who sent Yang Jianming to prison for attacking her."
"Huh? How could that be?" Zhai Mumu frowned. She had indeed heard about Yang Jianming being locked up because he had caused some serious trouble with his fiancée. If she was not wrong, then the man was trying to snatch the job of his fiancée and hand it to his lover.
Zhai Muchen shook his head. "Zhai Mumu, just tell me how you even got into the army? It seems like you are all brawn and no brains. If you do not develop some wits, then you will never rise beyond this position where you are at the moment."
Zhai Mumu almost vomited a mouthful of blood. This elder brother of hers really had a sharp tongue.
"Han Ruochen is that fiancée."
Zhai Muchen didn’t know the inside story, but he had a hunch. From Old Madam Han’s dissatisfied face and Han Ruochen’s sudden decision to sell the job, there had to be a problem with someone in the Han family. He knew Han Yichen, and he was a man of quite a good character, which left Mrs Han.
Of course, this was just his hunch.
Zhai Mumu was speechless.
She then turned to look at Han Ruochen, who was still standing in a corner instead of sitting on the couch and recalled the fishy scent coming from her. She pursed her lips and asked, "I heard that she is a teacher at the county, so why is she selling seafood?"
This was the main reason Zhai Mumu couldn’t connect Han Ruochen to the same woman who was engaged to Yang Jianming. As far as she knew, Yang Jianming was a fool who let go of a beautiful and capable woman and ruined his life for a woman who had nothing. And from the rumours, she knew that Han Ruochen was a teacher. But the woman in front of her didn’t look like someone who taught in a county school.
"You think she is as silly as you? The crux of Yang Jianming’s scheming against her was the job. She already sold that job," Zhai Muchen wondered how his sister would survive in this cruel world. Though many would think that what Han Ruochen did was foolish, that wasn’t the truth. Han Ruochen was someone who understood that as long as she could safeguard her life, nothing else mattered.
And he didn’t blame her. He had seen her jump down from the cliff to the sea. Someone who almost lost her life because of that job certainly won’t be foolish enough to keep the job any longer.
"But that doesn’t mean that Yang Jianming will stop targeting her."
"Of course he won’t," Zhai Muchen nodded when he heard what Zhai Mumu had pointed out. "But at least she will not be suffering double the loss. And I don’t think Yang Jianming will foolishly try anything this soon."
It didn’t take long for Master Fang to return. He brought the money in a bag with him and handed it to Zhai Muchen, who took it and handed it to Han Ruochen. "Here, you can take the money, and from now on, if you find something rare that cannot be sold, you can come to my house and ask Master Fang to help you." This way, he would be able to return the favour that his family owed Han Ruochen.
Han Ruochen was quite surprised. She turned to look at Master Fang, who was a kind-looking man and asked, "Is this alright? I don’t want to cause any trouble for Master Fang."
"There is no need to be polite with me, young lady; you can always come looking for me." Because of this snail caviar, his elder brother was being looked at in a new light by the boss of the restaurant. Naturally, he had nothing against Han Ruochen bringing in some rare seafood that would help his brother rise to a new level!
